Excellent work Jeremy, Nomad and Bob!

I'm just getting back into the hobby after a long break. The builds here have really inspired me and here's where I'm at with my Airfix Spitfire and Bf109 (both 1/72). First the pride of Supermarine and just added some detail to take the bare look off the cockpit. Won't see most of it when it's closed up...

?action=view¤t=Img006 1.jpg

And same with the 109...

?action=view¤t=Img008 1.jpg

Painted and ready to close up, with some rib detail for the tiny wheel wells. Bit of a goof on the cockpit colour for the Messer but that got changed before they were glued!

?action=view¤t=ScrambleGB002.jpg

?action=view¤t=AirfixBoBGB002.jpg

The Spitfire will be built wheels up, just after lifting off the ground so put the Airfix pilot is in his seat, complete with harness from kitchen foil. Just need to pick out his goggles and he's done.

?action=view¤t=ABoBGBSpitfire3.jpg

In this pic, you can see the corrected interior colour for the 109. Also added belts from foil, and a cockpit fuel line (not seen here) This one will be displayed with some figures from the Revell Luftwaffe Pilot and Groundcrew set..

?action=view¤t=ABoBGBBf1093.jpg

?action=view¤t=ABoBGBBf1094.jpg

They're not the tidiest of builds and I know I'll never get to contest standard but I'm enjoying them and that's the main thing for me. Just wish I hadn't committed to building the Airfix Defiant!!!!

Thanks for looking and appreciate your comments.

Best wishes,

Dermot

Looking good so far Bob! I have yet to try the silly putty masking method.

Well... I have finished. Here she is in all her glory. The only extras added to the kit are stretched sprue brake lines. Hope you enjoy...

Any constructive criticism more than welcome.

Very nice work Nomad.  It's always good to see something than the usual 109 or Spit in the BoB GB.

I made some progress the past two days-painted & Futured.  Masking was a combination of utilizing the Tamiya template w/rubber cement (didn't work as well as planned), 3M Blue Painters tape (ok, but not my favorite) and finally some Silly Putty-the Silly Putty was the best method and I'll use it the next time I build a Spitfire.  There are a couple of flaws in the paint/masking, but it'll pass this time.  Close enough for government work.....Wink

With a little luck, I hope to have the decals on by Monday pm, Futured again by mid week and an oil wash by next weekend.  I may do a bit of pastel weathering.....or not....wait & see....

She looks great with the paint job, Nomad! Yes  The engines look at home in their cowls. Looks like you had to do alot of grinding to hollow out those cowls. Nice job!

I went for it and ground both the engine and cowl and like how it looks. the view from behind the cowl looks like the real plane. This plane is turning out the way I wanted it to. I wanted to try some new technics and improve my skills. It is not a contest quality model but will look nice on my shelf I hope Big Smile

Thank you all for the support and kind words it helps me stay on task to complete the Anson. Guys also love all of your WIP pictures some good looking planes going together here. I masked and painted the beast. I need to install my engine and things chettah engines but the cowl fits soo tight around the engine it wont slip in without cutting cowl in half or shaving detail off of the engine circumference. Any ideas there would help me I think I will cut engine that detail is hard to see anyhow. Big Smile

Nice one, have a mate with one similar to that, blows mine away in a straight line, I've ridden it a few times, the front wheel doesn't like staying on the ground when you crack the throttle....

Thanks all-yes, those are Eduard PE belts.  Really wish I had gone with the Zoom kit instead of belts alone-the IP could use upgrading.  Maybe next time.

I did get the fuselage & wings buttoned up yesterday-good fit, no need for filler.  Hope to get some primer on it today.

Jules-nice toys.  I enjoyed dirt biking back in my youth....spent more time on the ground than on the bike though.....

Julez- Thanks, glad you liked it!  Took me an hour to find one that showed the offset.  BTW, is that you in your avatar?  Do you ride, and if so- what?

Bob- Very happy to see your update!  Are those Eduard belts?  They look perfectly posed.  Well done!

Hey all....as always, a lot of great work being displayed here.  I almost hate to post pics, but I'm taking a little different approach this time.  I think I'm coming out of my slump so I'm not going to devote much attention to the cockpit-most of it will go unnoticed anyway.  My goal is to get a 'quick win' to hopefully get motivated to finish some more 'challenging' projects awaiting in the wings....along with finishing up the final 5% of my Pacific War GB P-40.....anyway, I am on holiday today (election day) so I managed to get the cockpit done and a wash applied.  My goal is to get the fuselage together tonight, wings attached and maybe get some primer on it by the weekend.  The kit is the Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Mk. Great looking builds guys!!!!!! Jeremy the only thing I can see is I hope that the starboard cowl gun isn't pushed all the way forward!!!! But the hollowed out barrels are the ***!!!!! NICEEEEE!!!!!

Hey, thanks Richie! Are the cowl guns supposed to be offset like that? Should they be even? The starboard MG sits back much further in the cowl than the port side MG. Huh?

Julez: Yes, I should have taken some photos before I put on the clear coat, the reflection makes it hard to see the pre-shading. Well, it should show up again after I hit the plane with the matte coat on finishing.
