Julez- Excellent, I love it!  The Doras in the black-white-black RD bands are my personal favorites, and this one especially with the spotted nose.  Very well done, looking forward to those additional pics!  I certainly hope you can get the PB working so we can see them.

Mike- Thanks mate, I certainly am glad to be making some progress on this one again! Propeller

Frank -- I look forward to seeing that 109, I remmeber you having problems with it.

Well, with an extended finish date I'm sure I can get some more planes to the line. I have canopy masks for my three other 190s on their way, and the weather is definitely trending into the warm end of the year now, so hosing on stinky enamels outside is a distinct possibility. I'm looking at preshading for the first time, on the Hasegawa 1:32 A-8, and seeing how it comes out. I'm really looking forward to finishing this beast, it'll be my first in the scale in many years.

Cheers, Mike

Satch, great work well doneYes I hear you regarding the pics, i have a camera and i still can't take a decent photoToast

Frank, Mate with an extension of three and a half months it's a given, i'll cut sprue on the Eduard A-5 in a couple of weeks...It's that open engine bay that makes me want to get it doneToast

I'll keep an eye out for the 109 you have on the go, one of my favourites...I have the Zvezda 109F in the stash that i'm hopeing to do next year in desert camo again....

Well i'm still having photobucket issues and can't upload the pics, i tried to upload a previous wip pic under a new tag but that wouldn't upload either...It must be a site problei guess...I did manage to get one up on image shack but it doesn't look right, i'll try photobucket again later...

Anyways here is the imageshack pic.....Sory for the poor quality, i'll get better ones up soon...

Mo- Great to see you, it's been a while!  Which decals are you looking for?

Mike- I agree the 74 looks a little off on that wing, perhaps a little touch up?  The bottom looks perfect, very well done on the shading.

Julez- No problem, just let me know!  I am dying to see your Dora!

Bish- Thanks mate, I really appreciate that.  These RD GB's have been an enormous success, and I am so happy to be a part of them.  Rest assured, when it's time for RDIV, I will make certain to find you!

satch- Outstanding, welcome to the finish line!  I updated page one for you.

Well gents, I updated page one to reflect  a new end date, 2/1/11.  I sure do hope to see more work here!  I am hoping to start on my Hasegawa 190 soon, but the bench has been occupied lately with a large scale 109 I started for RDI but never finished.  I was not pleased with how it was progressing, so I tore it apart to salvage the cockpit.  After setting it aside for a few months (and building a different kit for the GB) I decided to try and fix it.  It was a lot of work repairing the damage, but it is now finally going rather smoothly.  Hope to begin painting it soon!

On another note, I am discovering how difficult it is to find markings for a standard 190A-8 in 1/32.  Most of the decal offerings are A-8/R2 or A-8/R8 (Sturmbock) variants.  I found a profile I like in a book I have, but am having difficulty verifying the scheme as accurate.

I finished the Fujimi 190 A-7/R8 a few weeks ago but between work and football I haven't posted.  Kinda disappointed how this turned out.  The kit is very basic but it looks like a 190.  The reason I built this one was because it had Red 23 in the kit.  That was Bar's back up aircraft he was flying when he scored his 200th victory.  Unfortunately the kit decals were too big and the colors are off.  It's going in the back of the case.

White 13 and Red 23 together.

Out of the box except for the guns and the canopy.  The original canopy was broke so I had to get a Squadron vac canopy.  The guns are Master Model.

Pics are from my Iphone so don't anyone rag on me for the photos, please.  This ain't the Photography Today forum after all. Smile

Mike I like your paint job very much, are those some citadel paints I see?

@Spike,

Yessir, those are indeed citadel paints.  I had some buddies that 'coerced' me back into the realm of things 'nerdy' via Warhammer and Warhammer 40k.  I haven't played at all in a couple of years, though I moved into painting historical miniatures(with an idea of gaming, though hasn't happened yet) and model making(obviously!), but I still enjoy the paints.

Rob, Frank, Julez and Sk3tch, thanks guys I'm really pleased you like it so far. Any progress is likely to be slow this week but I will try to keep it moving along.

Mike I like your paint job very much, are those some citadel paints I see?

Sk3tch great progress, look forward to more.

Evening everyone,

I thought I would post a few WIP shots for you.  I am hoping to get the landing gear and such taken care of this week and with any luck get to the decals this coming weekend.  I am also considering working a bit on the right wing as I am not sure how I feel about the large area I did in  MM RLM 74.  I am not sure if I was tired or just not paying attention but the area covered was much more than I was going for. I have been half arsed looking for examples of a similar camo scheme to justify my 'error' but nothing yet.  I may leave it so I can just get to finishing up.  I figure that the crosses will help when I get to the decals.

Now some of you may remember from my last posting that I have had a number of issues with this build one of which being that my initial coat of primer went on fuzzy and I was forced to strip and start over.  Unfortunately the underside has some rough patches.  Fortunately they are hard to see in the photo(if at all)!

All the paints used were Model Master acrylics with the exception of the preshading and the yellow which were Delta Ceramcoat Charcoal and Delta Straw.  I usually work with craft paints but didn't want to deal with trying to whip up some RLM shades.  I just enjoy trying out different ranges!

Take care

Mike

Just wanted to tell everyone who has posted finished or in progress photo's, great looking 190's. So many talented builds. Very cool GB Frank, even if I was sidelined. Very inspiring work everybody.

Broke open the Tamiya D-9 figuring it would be a quick build in an attempt to make the deadline, gonna end up waiting on decals.

Frank, with winter getting closer and things slowing down abit, count me in on RDIV.

Frank, so how long are you keeping this one open? I still have that eduard A 5 in my stash...

Hmmm... I dunno for sure!  At least a couple of months, perhaps end of January?  By all means, break out that A-5! Toast

sk3tch- Nice work there so far, especially black 7.  Love those schemes, but have never actually tried one myself.  Some great looking 109 kits there in the photo, I would post a pic of my 109 stash, but I don't know if they would all fit in the frame. Embarrassed LOL

Bish- Glad to hear that you are home now, but bummer about having to go back overseas in February.  You mention the Stuka, by all means- I have one of those in mind for that GB as well when we get to it!

Frank I am not over seas at the moment. I am back off to the Falklands in Feb. But once again i am upto my neck in GB's. Before i go away i have a B-24 to finish and two kits for the Swing Wing GB. Then when i come come back in May i have a kit for my own GB (starts next month) to build for and two for the Ostwind GB. Add to that a stake load of Dio's to finish. So, if i miss out on your next GB i will be able to make the ones after that, as i am going to be really strict with myself from now on.

I got one of the Hase 1/32nd 190F-8 kits a couple of months ago. Looks like a great kit. Not build any 32nd kits yet, just got 4 in the stash, but if i can make the schlachtflieger, i may do a 32 build for that, assuming Stukas are allowed.

Rob - Wow dude...I haven't been checking in on this thread like I should be...but I have been impressed with your build from the first time I saw the bmw801 engine built.  The final product is astounding...not only how it came out but that it was a fiddly Eduard kit.  Very handsome bird indeed.  By the way:  LOVE how the exhaust pipe color came out.  I intend on duplicating that somehow.

Julez72 - The freehand airbrushing looks great.  I can't see any flaws at all.  The Panel lines came out awesome.  Keep it up!

Spike190 - Your paintjob is awesome.  The blue armor matches the number well...something I would have a terrible time achieving.

Going through the first page and all the completed 190s...there are SO many great completed kits.  So much talent here!

As for me...I've been falling behind.  I have what I call modeler's A.D.D.  I am a complete FW190 nut but have been so busy at work and with the family that when I do have time to work on a kit I skip around alot.  Add the fact my wife got a SBD Dauntless kit for my birthday (And she expects that to be DONE before all else)...It seems this group build flew by way too fast.

Now that work has slowed down a bit I am going to keep up.  Even if it's after the deadline.

The kit is the OLD 1/32 Hasegawa FW190.  The cockpit is totally inaccurate but I'm using it anyway.  This will be a completely out of box build.  Not much to look at yet but here it is:

...And below is my to-do pile of 190's after this.  I don't know why, but if I see a 190 for sale it seems I HAVE to buy it.

Excellent work there Mike!  I see you toned down the blue on the nose, looks much closer IMHO.  There is something about the finish, can't really put it into words but it just looks right.  I love it so far!

Bish- Sorry you haven't been able to participate directly on this one, how much longer are you stationed overseas?  I am planning on keeping this one going for a while yet, as there are a few who are getting ready to start their builds.  As for the next one, I was also toying with "Luftwaffe multi-engines" and the aforementioned "schlachtflieger".  Opens up the possibilities tremendously, don't you think?

BTW, I received my 1/48 Hasegawa 190A-8 in the mail today, looks like a great kit!  But, after looking closely at the 1/32 Hasegawa A-8, I think I am going to go with that one here.  Wish me luck!

Frank What sort of time frame are you looking at for the next GB. Please say it will be until the later half of next year. It was hard enough missing out on this one, i don't think i could resist a NF GB and i am upto my neck until arpound next Sept. Of course, if you did a Zestorer GB first and then a NF, i would be your friend for ever Big Smile

I haven't really keep up with this GB, but looks like you have some awsome looking builds there guys, and another great GB from Frank.

Chaps I've been weathering and mucking about with stuff all week so I've a few pictures for you, I adjusted the light on the photo's.

These first two are after I've played around with some oil paints.

And these next ones are after a flat coat and de-masked, I actually sprayed Gunze flat from the airbrush this time, usually I use Vallejo from a can.

I need to do a little on the underside now and then do all the sticky out bits, prop etc.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the comments GentsYes I'm hopeing to get some dullcoat on it tonight...

Rob, buddy it's a typical Tamiya kit and goes together very well, I have the same Eduard kit that you did and despite the troubles with the kit i'm looking forward to getting that one done...

Well I have no experience with Tamiya stuff, and I do enjoy Model Master(I use about 50% MM and 50% craft store paints), but isn't the Tamiya stuff in an alcohol base?  Perhaps it is a process of evaporating more quickly that allows it to be thinned down so much?

Home stretch on the 1/72 Hasegawa D9...hope to have some pics up this weekend.

Why is it that I can thin Tamiya paint way down (like 10% paint) and it still sprays well, but Model Master just turns into a runny mess? I'd love to be able to do some thinned-paint effects with the "right" colors (i.e., MM RLM's), but this stuff just isn't doing what I want it to.

Julez- You obviously haven't lost your touch!  Nice work there, love the spotted nose on this A/C.

Mike- Thanks mate, but from what I have heard about those Eduard kits I think I will pass for now.  Sprue Bros has a few of the Hasegawa kits on Super Sale right now, so I ordered myself a 1/48 A-8.  Should be here tomorrow! Propeller

Rob she looks beautiful, the paintwork looks outstanding and I love the PE fastners on the cowl too. Top job Yes

Thanks Julez, your bird looks splendid, mottle looks great, you must be near to finishing?

Go on Frank grab yourself a Wurger, you should have a bash at one of these Eduard kits, I reckon you could do something special with one.

Cheers...

Rob- Outstanding build there!  Very well done, and one of the best 190 schemes out there.  Thanks so much for being a part of the GB!

Well everyone, that's 20 completed builds here so far!  To be honest, I am really thinking about having a crack at another one here.  Have a couple of Wurgers in the stash calling my name... Stick out tongue

I'm calling this one DONE!!  It was somewhat of a painful ride, but I am happy with it in the end. I love the FW 190 - easily my most favorite plane, but I will make it in a larger scale next time- 1/32 for sure, and possibly the Airfix 1/24- even with all of its problems.

Thanks Daywalker for hosting this GB. I am amazed at the quality of the models that have been made- a great source of inspiration and ideas! Hopefully I will join the next one, the Zerstorer RD GB IV!

Thanks Rob, I cant wait to see your finished pictures.

Thanks Steve and Mike I'm glad your liking it Big Smile, I've actually done quite a bit of a lighter mottle too but it ain't showing up to well on the pictures and under the gloss.

Cheers Frank, as regards the armoured ring colour I used Tamiya X-14 which I cross referenced, it matches the profile picture nicely but is darker than the '8' decals so I will probably have a fiddle about with it some more.

Decals are done so now I'm onto some touch ups and weathering,

Cheers...
