Guy lovely job on the D-9! Thanks for the heads up on what to look for on the kit if I decide to add one to the stash.

I finally have all of the colors layed down. It only took three nights and anout 10 hours work of masking and airbrushong but its done. She's getting a shiney coat tonight so I can play with the stickers tomorrow!

Guy, tough build she may have been, you tamed her to perfection! This is one of the most detailed and truly visually believable models I think I've ever seen.

Salutations, sir, I hope I can crank out something half as good (when I ever get the chance!)

Cheers, M/TB379

Well im calling mine done. As for my thoughts on the new D9 kit, mmm. I have mixed feelings. As ive mentioned before they (Eduard) really want you to build the thing with all panels open and if you chose not to, as i have, it makes for a difficult model to build. Add to that, thier usally impecable instructions making a boo boo. Yes a boo boo, buyers beware. In the beginning of the destructions, they say that if you are building the plane with the gun cover shut, omit the gun ammo cans and chutes and leave off the guns. This part of the instructions has clearly been lifted from thier A series aircraft that have closed in wheel wells! If its the D your building and you look up in the wheel well, it seems very sparten, due to the omitted items. Ask me how i know this. Bloody Eduard,

Im pleased with how she turned out. The panel details, rivets, decals, all spot on. I need t6he D-13 combo me thinks,

Anyhoo, pics,

Oh and check out these glorious QB exhausts,

Thx to Frank for hosting this great GB and you never know i may be back with an A8 thats starting calling from the stash. Calling loudly as it happens LOL,

Damon---The engine is awesome.  I have used the same technique myself but never got quite the realism you did.  You have to open the access panels to show it off.

Guy---I have ordered the spinner spirals from Eduard.  Ordered the mask set for the Ta152 also.  Eduard requires a $20 minimum so I ordered some other mask sets too.

We need more WIP pics!!!  Where is everyone?

Damon that is a great looking enginepop!!!!! Bow Down

Julez please don't tell me that Dragon a/c kits have fit issues too for the price they charge!!!??? I have but only one Dragon a/c kit and it is the 1/72 P-61 Black Widow and have AM engines, masks, and interior and exterior PE for it. One of those retirement builds me thinks LOL!!!

Just bought Academy's Dora today and looks to be pretty good. So now I have 2 Dora's and an A-6/8. One of the Dora's is an Airfix, Might start on that one and then go from there as the other two are Academy's. That is of course once I finish my 262. Good thing the bench is 3ft away!!Whistling

Hey Damon that is a good looking engine you have there I like the way it turned out. What colour did you use by the way I might want to try it some time

Steve

Steve I am glad you like it. I used for the block a aluminum buffing metalizer then sealed it. painted components RLM 74 and 66. I use two artist oil washes the block is brown the supercharger is black wash. accesories are chrome silver with black wash. Steve try different color washes it tints the aluminum different for what effect you want. Hope that answered your question. Thanks. Big Smile

Excellent work here fellas, keep it up!

Damon- That engine looks sublime, love the slightly aged metal look to it.  Well done!

I dunno about any mythical powers, just lucky me thinks!  Lots and lots of microsol and solvaset (sometimes even a little Tamiya extra thin cement) and patience!

Thought about trying Aaron's method sometime, with the helmet, power drill, and all that.  A little scary, but sounds like fun.  I really miss that guy...

Thanks Julez and Micheal for your comments. I am going to try something different with the lower engine cowls. I feel bad for Art and the problems he faced with his Dragon kit but he is sending me his extra lower engine cowls. I am going to try and have rods attached to the cowls at the top pivot hinge point. and glue small brass tubes in the open top fuse so I can change it to open or closed or both. Hate to see such a sleek airplane with open panels all over. That is going to be a challenge will post pics of that after I get the office built. I live out here in the sticks and have found Group Builds the only source of interaction I get with other modelers and enjoy seeing your work guys. Thank You Big Smile

Nomad that engine looks good. So now you are going to have to build it with the access panels open to show it off.

I do'nt know what Dragon does but I'll never understand how they can box cutting edge armor kits but can break down a 1/48 scale single seat fighter in such a way as to make it an absolute nightmare to build.

Nomad, nice work on the engine mateYes I'm definatly looking forward to following your build progress......Yeah what is it with Dragon? Apparently their armour kits are first class but everytime i've touched one of their ac kits it has major fit issues.....

Hey Everyone!  I have enjoyed watching everyones build. I have learned alot in this GB from Aircraft colors kit problems, and finaly I have WIP pics to share I started on the Ta152 engine. This is a dragon kit and building the engine so far is like building a kit within a kit. Nice detail but parts dont fit well. Hope you all enjoy. Big Smile

He speaks the truth you know. Frank does have those mystical powers with the spinner decals. Crushers way is great and fairly easy to do, but ill use Eduards spiral masks from now on. They rule and reproduce the curly bit in the centre superbly,

Clebode the best way to paint thoses PIA spiral spinners is to cut very thin strips of Tamiya masking tape. Start by painting the spinner white first. Then mask the white area with the thin strips of tape until you get it to look the way you want. When you do it like this you can keep adjusting it until it looks right to your eye then just spray the bleck and you are good to go! Make sure you only use Tamiya tape due to its ability to stretch around the curves and stretch a bit. Very thin strips is the only way to go. Forget the spiral decals they are next to useless because they are flat and the spinner is round. It just does'nt work 90% of the time unless you are Frank and have his majical powers!:wizard:

SC ---You are right of course but I have been supergluing and sandling forever on this baby.  Don't forget the microballoons!

Guy--The base kit is the Pacific Coast Ta152H-1.  Frank suggested an AM caster named Jerry Rutman because the PM kit reproduced the BMW power of the Fw190 D series and JR had cast the accurate Jumo 213 used inthe TA152.   Little did I know you really can't see much of the the powerplant without fiber optics. The resin is from JR and I must say the wheel wells were much better than PC's.  JR's main spar is prettly nice too.  The JR prop blades and spinner also look better.  The 20mm 151s are AM from JB Models.

Can you give me a lead on where to obtain spinner spiral masks?

Clebode Do'nt wory about it. Nothing some superglue and sanding can't fix.

Guy here is the colorplate. I am building black "10" It has a non standard painted underside/fuselage color of RLM 84 grayblue. The back half of the wings are NMF underneath and the front half of the underwing is painted grayviolet. Here is the plate.

Thanks Ritchie. I am looking foward to unmasking everything with all of these crazy colors just to see how it looks too!

Frank, SC thanks for the encouragement.  SC I agree with Frank, great camo job.

I got over confident last night.  After dropping the elevators went off without a hitch I decided to tackle the wing surgery.  Unfortunately I confused the lower half with the upper and took out a small piece on the leading edge before I realized the mistake.  Bang Head

Thanks Frank. There are a couple of ugly spots but so much of the fuselage is going to be covered up with the doubl;e tailband painted out markings and then the cross and plane number it should break it all up. Oh and of corse the entire tail is going to be yellow with only a small patch of camo for the swastika. I can't wait till all of the painting is done and see how cool it looks with the NMF on the undersides of the wings!

Clebode- Very, very clean work- coming along very well indeed!

Crusher- All of your hard work is paying dividends, that paint work is astonishing!  Mottle looks PERFECT, well done!

I worked on my kit this evening, finishing up the sanding and rescribing on the wing.  It's done now, time to add it up to the fuselage and then it will start looking like a 190!
