Ok.  Apparently I can't follow intructions. .....  I put this much effort into this I want to make it right.

   Oh, I feel for you.  So close to the end.  Have a scotch; double straight up, then re-visit tomorrow.  But you've got the right aproach; too much time and effort invested not to fix.  In the end, you'll be glad that you did.

Thanks for the  encouragement.  I'm not gonna beat myself up over it.  I am glad it's just the paint not a major construction error.  Easy to repaint....even a kit of this size.  I do have a few bottles of single malts......  Not a bad idea.  My scottish liver needs to be fed anyway

Ok.  Last night I sprayed the belly of the beast the correct color of Euro I Gray.  I might spray the Gunship Gray tonight.  I think I have some left.......If not I will tell the wife I "have" to go to the LHS to get more paint.

No, no!  Tell her that you feel like having a bottle of wine with a candle lit dinner.  Then go to the LHS and on the way home, stop at the wine shop.  The paint should be easy to hide...  and who knows what other benefits a candle lit dinner with wine will have...  

I spent the entire evening weathering the insides of the bomb and gear bay doors.  I seem to consistently under estimate the time it takes to do these oil washes.  Given that they are dry tomorrow. I might have an hour or two to install the landing gear.

On a side note, after I gave the Bone a once over before I started repainting and I painted the wings in the correct pattern on the first go.  Huh....maybe the fumes got to me when I painted the rest of the plane.

As for the Bone, good to hear that teh correction will not be as involved as you first thought.

Small update on the Bone.....well a fix actually.  I repainted the belly of the beast.  She is looking good.  Another day of drying time and I will redo the upper fuselage and post some pics.

In the home stretch now.  Got the featherless exhaust cans painted and attached.  I like the way they turned out.  Nice detail on this set from Cutting Edge.

Landing gear and the bay doors were also installed yesterday.  First, be sure to install the outer gear doors (C86,87) before attaching the landing gear as they will be almost impossible to attach afterwards,  The main landing gear were a bit problematic.  First, I mentioned before when I assembled the main landing gear that one set was warped.  This caused one set of wheel to float, no matter what I did to try to correct the problem.  My only hope at the time was the the weight of the finshed model would be sufficient to settle them.  Well, I lost that wager and probably compounded the problem by the way that I attached the main gear.  These are tricky to align.  The front gear should be attached first and let dry.  Then the main gear can be glued.  The difficult part is to align them fore/aft and get all wheels to sit flat without dislocating them from the fuselage assembly.  I tried to align them with the drag braces attached (parts C105,106) and glued.  But those braces are where you can get some fore/aft play to align (by sanding the locating pins at the front of the braces).  So I limited my options by my approach and in my efforts to get them straight, I broke of the front gear wheels    So Kevin, when you begin to attach the main gear, look at the option of aligning without the drag braces, and gluing the braces in once the main gear at straight.  That said, here is the front gear which went without a hitch (aside from my breaking off the wheels)....

Unfortunately, one set of wheels on the right main gear still float.  So this clearly is not a contest competitive model.  And I have decided that the only place I can display this is to hang it from the ceiling.  This will allow easy viewing of the bomb bays and hide my error with the landing gear alignment. 

But the aircraft no longer needs the cradle; it can stand on its own.

Next up, install the bomb bay doors then attached antennae and other small parts.

Nice job on the burner cans.  They look great.     Tough break....literally on the landing gear.   Seems like you fixed it up well enough.  Thanks for the heads up.  Wouldn't expect anything less from this kit though.

Your Lancer is so close to being done.  Nice work.  The fiddly bits part is where I usually rush things and have a few alignment errors because of it. 

As for a display you could build a nice wood cradle so you could take all the weight off the landing gear.  I might do something like that.

Nice job overall. And i really like the look of the wheel and bomb bay. Going to have to go back and see how you did that. I haven't worked with white on that scale since getting back into modelling but would love to be able to nail it like you have.

Hey Bish!   Congrats on the acquisition of your second green bar!   So does that make you a captain or something?  I'm so confused    Salute!

Didn't do anything really involved with the white.  Just sprayed Tamiya X-2 gloss white, then gave the assemblies a rather heavy wash with diluted black oils to bring out detail and give everything a dirty look.  Next, a lighter wash with diluted burnt umber oil, added in areas that I thought would be exposed to dirt and frime.  That's pretty much it.

The desire is there and maybe the patience.....but I lack the skill.  I am working on that though.  One model kit at a time.  You sir are much closer to that than I.

I am glad you noticed that, cause i didn't. I wasn't sure what that bar was for, guess the second green must be because i past 1,500 posts, taken me long enough.

I hate those type of forums with the posts laid out like that. I think this forum was like that when i first joined back in 02 and i only posted a few times, just couldn't get the hang of it.

Well.....the whole family is sick....again.  So no bench time until everyone is well. 

I went back and had a look at the build on the ARC forums a few more times.  Just WOW.  That is some fantastic work that builder did.  Slick case he built for transporting the bird around too.

Tough luck, Kevin.  But on the positive side, if everyone is sick now, you'll likely have a healthy Holiday season.  Get it over with now.  Then you'll have lots of modeling time while you're off from work and the family can enjoy the holidays..  So hang in there for a few days and all will be fine.

We've been lucky so far; my girls have stayed healthy despite some nasty stomach virus being passed through the schools.  Fingers crossed.

Thats a pretty good point you made about the holiday season Don. 

I usually hurry finishing a build as well.   It seems, for me anyway, that as soon as I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I start running towards it.  Good idea to give it a day or two to recharge the Bone batteries

Man lots of nice work going on here the Bones are stunners guys wow.

I got a start on my F-14A finally and have a few pictures to share with ya.

Not much cockpit work to worry about on this build, its the F-14A of VF-41 parked at the Ronald Regan Library, the canopy is blacked out.

I will have to do some work in the gear bays though.

Decided the air-bleed vents ? Needed some work so I added some plasticard sides and back, then will add the actuator when I close the top portion. I have pictures of what it looks like from the inside of the intake but have no picture of what the vent looks like on top. Does anyone know if there should be a screen there of some kind to keep FOD or furry little creatures out ? Could be feathered creatures also

Vetteman, the Tomcat is coming along nicely.  That is an interesting choice of painting to black out the cockpit to resemble a museum display.  Pretty sweet. 

As for the vents, I don't think there are any screens on them.  The cooling vents on the fuselage do but those particular vents don't.....as far as I know.  I am by no means an expert but from the photo walk arounds I have looked at, I never was able to see a screen or anything on them.

Off to a nice start Vetteman.  Glad to have you on the active list of the GB.  Blacked out canopy, eh?  I guess they didn't want anyone climbing up and stealing state secrets    Sounds like you're planning to add some plumbing and detail to the wells.  Look forward to seeing the Tomcat take shape.

Pordoi, Looking great, bummer about the undercarriage problem, par for the course with kit though.

Mac, Bugger to hear about the paint job. Last time I did that that I did that I stripped the paint, strange  you didnt? (OK really really bad joke). As it is I have to strip some paint off the hull on a 1/350 missile cruiser and not looking fwd to one bit.

My situation? Still waiting on my PE. Might start on some other parts just to be doing something with it.

Andrew, If I ended up having to strip the paint off this thing I would just throw it against the wall.    Luckily it was just the wrong shade of gray.  Easy fix.      Although I seem to always have to strip the paint of my model cars at least once during a build because I am not happy with the results or have paint runs.

Working on some sub assemblies might keep you in the grove of your build while you wait for the PE.

Kevin, I pity you, I cant really imagine respraying my 1/32 swordfish let alone a 1/48 Bone.

On the flip side the postie delivered my seatbelts today so I cant start there and move one to another section afterwards
