For the most part, the fuselage halves fit OK, but still will require some work.  But the bomb bays look OK...

That's it for me because I'm away on a business trip next week; to Bish's neck of the woods.  I trust that  you guys can keep the GB alive in my absence.

Eatthis, the key to drybrushing is patience.  It is easy to want to use a lot of paint to get the results quickly but trust me on this one.  The first couple passes you probably won't see much paint on the parts.  You will be rewarded with a great finish if you take your time.  Looking forward to more pics of the Tomcat.

I did manage to get the pit and nose gear bay together.  Here are a few pics.

I am pretty happy with the way they turned out.  Maybe not the most accurate but visually pleasing to me.  I hope to stuff that set up in the forward fuselage tonight and get that glued to the rest of the plane.  Here's hoping.

vetteman42  That makes two of us, been ages since i finished something. Which of my work have you seen so far.

pordoi I will deffinatly scan some of those pics. Most are models, it doesn't say what sort or what scale, a few look like the dragon kit. But there are also some nice pics of the real thing as well as the American X-5.

Some really nice looking work here guys. GB is looking good.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I don't think so Don. Yeh, I know things in type are easily misunderstood. I gave it quite a bit of thought before I replied. I even wondered if possibly what I took as a compliment wasn't really intended as sarcasm but, I gave it the benefit of doubt and went with the positive. From this point forward I'd always be wondering so I think I'll just bow out...

Looking good Eatthis.  I find it hard to line up the antiglare on some navy aircraft on center.  It usually takes me a few tries to get it right.  The rest of the black turned out spot on.   Your Tomcat has a nice butt too....Embarrassed  Looking good.

Oh man, here I am, scrolling down, all serious and stuff and BAM!!! What do I see? Your Tomcat has a nice butt too... Just about fell out of my chair on that one. Thanks Kevin.

I hope you guys will pardon me and my last couple of posts. It was a misunderstanding that Don and I worked out. I don't think of this as a competition at all. I wouldn't join in if I did. If there's no objections I'll stick around and continue with the plan. And thanks for the compliments. I played around with the camera a little today but still need a decent backdrop and base for pictures. I'll post some better pics when I get it sorted out.

Keep up the good work guys!

No problem Tony.   I am glad you decided to stay and finish up your Tornado trio.  Your craftsmanship is great and I look forward to your posts.  The more pics the better!

Eatthis, glad you got the antiglare the way you want it.  I didn't notice the "Elvis" stance of your F-14 until you mentioned it.  At least it is able to be corrected.  Did you try the drybrushing in the pit yet?

Nicely done, Mac. Too bad that the cockpit will mostly be invisible in the final model.  Hides all of that detail work.  Unless of course, you are planning to leave the upper escape hatch opened.  In either case, you know it's there and we have photo evidence.  Yes

I'm working on attaching the cockpit/nose to the main fuselage.  Hopefully, an update with photos tomorrow.  This is the one step that seems to be a very difficult fit given what has been written in previous build blogs.  In my experience, this was an easier fit than the tail section.  I'm curious how yours will go.  Best of luck.

Thanks Don.  I will probably close everything up.  The removable hatch section will be glued shut.  I was playing with the idea of cutting out the hatches on that section as I have seen on another forum build, but I would rather keep the sleek lines of the Lancer intact.  Like you said, we all know its there.

Ok.  Another update on the Bone.

I got the forward fusleage section stuck to the main fuselage section.  I used some plastic welder, I used MicroMark's "Same Stuff", to get a grip on parts then filled the trench with some Testors liquid cement for a good, solid join......I hope.  As you can see, there is quite a gap there.  The worst on the kit thus far for me.

Here is what I got so far.....minus the engines which are done as well.  All major construction is done at this point   Big Smile   Now I gotta start filling and sanding for the next year Crying   As you can tell I was pretty liberal with the glue.  I wanted to make sure it was gonna stay closed up and attached.

Oh!!  You beat me to the punch by about half an hour.  Smile  Here's mine, next to the trusty P-47 as a size reference:

My experience was that the tail was the poorer fit which required lots of sanding to smooth the steps in the joint.  The nose went together better, though not without some gaps and one or two steps at the bottom near the forward wheel well.  Here's some shots of it sanded and filled;  ready for a coat of primer to see just how smooth the first sanding is...

And the underside..., looks like I'll have to check that centerline seam on the tail.

Two things Kevin, and I hope that I'm not too late.  I forgot about those two little actuator arms for the front gear doors that stick out about midway down the fore bay.  I just remembered them and as feared, the handling during the attachment of the nose and sanding sheared them off.  Gone off to the carpet monster.  Be careful with those.  This is one awkward bird to sand just because of its size and the bomb bays etc. are open and subject to the errant thumb or sanding stick.  Second, did your  model require any nose weights?    I glued some fishing sinkers in early on but left the radome off in case more was required. Turns out that the weight of the resin in the front bomb bays gives it enough to prevent tail sitting.

I'm off to do some masking and then a quick primer coat around the nose and tail joints to see how serious the second round of filling and sanding will be.  It's nice to finally see an intact plane.

Like we said a while ago, "Meet you in the middle".  Well here's the middle I guess.

Nice work Don.  Toast I did add some fishing weights to the nose section.  I  spaced them out to even out the weight distribution.  I put a couple in the radome too as I don't plan on displaying the radar.  I think i put about 8 of the half ounce worm weights  (I use a lot of texas rigged plastic worms for bass fishing).  I think it will sit on all 3 struts.

As for those actuator arms, I found out the hard way.  I broke one off but luckily it fell in the gear bay and was retrieved without any issue.  The other is intact.  I might just cut it off as a precaution.  This way I will not lose it. I already found myself giving the bomb bays the ol' one finger salute.  No broken arrows as of yet  Yes

The marathon filling sanding will commence tonight after work if I feel up to the task.

A glutton for punishment, eh?  Wink  Like many kits, Tony, it's one that you can put as much effort into as you want.  There's lots of options to choose from, a decent amount of aftermarket stuff available and some challenges with fit and finish.

Kevin, you're still a step or two ahead of me; I haven't begun to assemble the engine nascelles or the landing gear yet.

I also thought that I'd share a few photos that I came across while surfing last night.

First one is certainly relevant to the GB; a couple of Tornados (though not in camo as Wingman's) and a Bone refueling.

Kevin, this is what happens when they forgot to add nose weights during the construction of this aircraft...  Stick out tongue

finally, I was unsure about how to build the radar pod under the tail that one sees on some recent B1s.  My first attempt to scratch build it with plastic stock failed miserably.  That created a problem since I thought that any B1B equipped with the sniper pod (which I have and was planning to add) would have this rear radar unit as well.  Then  I found this...

sniper pod present but lacking the tail unit.  Whew! scratch one scratch build project.

Excellent work Everyone!

I love the B-1 and the F-14

Hey Don, sorry but can you take my second 1/48 Revell F-14A of the GB roster? I have become very busy, and I only have time to finish my first one.

However, I just painted it: pics to follow soon. Smile

Glutton for punishment? Always. Those Tornados are the ADV version, Air Defence Variant. Designed to intercept Soviet bombers. Longer radome for a different radar and the fuselage is longer.  Longer fuselage allows them to carry the four missiles you see. I think the missiles are Skyflash. The ones I'm building are the IDS version, Interdictive Strike. ADV has one cannon(right/starboard side), IDS has two.

Wonder what happened with the taildragger?

I will have pictures soon. Was my weekend with the kids. Maybe by midweek. Smile

Wonder what happened with the taildragger?

According to the caption, it resulted from a malfunction of a fuel pump that transferred fuel from fore to aft tanks.
