Nice worl there pepper! I really like the Sea Fury! My favorite Warbird that I have seen fly in person..oh what sound they make! Pure power!!!

That's quite impressive Stik , a 1/35 KV-1in just under 48hrs....."Now that's inspiring".

Pepper I'm glad you got the picture uploading sorted out and excellent work on the F-84 and Sea Fury .

I have both those kits in the stash ; are there any major fit issue's with either kit ?

Thanks for the kind words ...

The F-84 is an old Revell kit and is great but for the installation of the nose gear ... an awfully teeny tiny peg on the gear leg to get it installed ... i still have yet to put on the gear brace and that may help with stabilizing the strut ? ... otherwise, a great build ... everything fits beautifully and 'tis been a joy to assemble ...

The Sea Fury is a Trumpeter kit and is just  plain miserable ... about the worse kit I've ever built ... lots of flash and no part  - repeat - NO - part has fit properly ... lots and lots of filing and sanding to get it where it is now ... big stubs on the sprues call for dressing every single part after taking it off the sprue ...

However, when it's finished up and painted, it will look decent, m'thinks ...

I might try one more Trumpeter kit, just for drill, to see if it's any better than this one ... however, I'm only going to try something from them in 1/72, as they cost considerbly less than 1/48 and larger ... would hate to spend a hundred bucks or more and go through the same fire drill as the Sea Fury has presented ...

Temps today should be warm enough to paint ... I brought both kits up to the painting stage last night, so am anxious to paint and decal them and present a finished product ...

Here is 1 photo of the Sea Fury painted overall Sea (the pale green the Brits used for underneath) ... I painted the whole aircraft with Sea ... the Dark Sea Gray will go on tomorrow ...

Then, 2 shots of the Thunderjet ... I'm letting the Titan Silver cure overnight, then will pick out several panels in different silver/aluminum shades ... after that cures, gloss coat and decals ...

The gold tint on the Thunderjet is obviously from the incadescent lights overhead ... the overall color is the silver you see on the nose ...

John, that's the mystery of it all ...

I was spraying right out out the Tamiya can ... did not decant the paint and thin it out whatsoever ...

You used Tamiya white out of a spray can? that could be your problem right there. I tried painting a piece on my 109 with it and it didnt want to stick. Maybe its just a bad batch or something.

I'm usually too clumsy with spray cans.  It works better for me to decant them using a straw, and then let the paint settle awhile before air brushing it.  White is a difficult color.  Tamiya flat white acrylic seems to work better than others, but it's a fine line between too thin and where it dries in the brush and restricts the spray after a little spraying.  I end up cleaning the nozzle pretty often when spraying the white to prevent the plugging while still being able to use the minimum thinning.

I've had great luck all through the years with rattle cans, though I've never used any of the Tamiya brand ...

I was pleased however with the coverage of the Sea on the Sea Fury ... the top and sides came out beautifully and the bottom didn't look too badly after spraying the Sea right over the mess of the Tamiya Pure White ...

Since the airplane is not going to be displayed upside down, I'm satisfied that it will look nice sitting on its wheels :-) ...

Decals onto the Thunderjet today as well as Dark Sea Gray on the Sea Fury (it's now all masked up ready for paint) ... decals on it late this afternoon ...

That's all predicated on the temps warming today ... it's 38 degrees F as I type and too cold to paint ...

I forgot to mention that the mess from the Tamiya spray can is/was only on the bottom of the Sea Fury ... whew ! ... I always start painting on the bottom of my airplanes - just in case - and the reason is again clear to me ... if I'm going to 'mess it up', I'd rather have that happen on the bottom than on the top or sides ... easy to then figure out the 'why' of the goof and correct the issues before spraying what's visible when normally displayed ...

Found a nice little Mig all wrapped up on my doorstep last night...I think its time to wake up the elves!!!!

Make sure you wake the proper elves Some of them can be quite ill tempered when aroused at the wrong time...

Your right!   .....Things have been outta control lately.....  (Flat rate and the economy puts alot on ones mind.)  I apologize....I do however have an F-86 Fury I have been  reluctant to build due it would be my first resin photoetch kit.  Another nine months you say?  Theres no time like the present! 

The FJ Fury was a variant of the F-86 Sabre jet ... it's not really the same airplane  ...

I love the box art, claiming that the kit has Bull PUB missles ...

You best check to see if the -4 flew in Korea ... my thinking is that only the -2 was even flying anywhere when the Korean War ended ...

and saw it on the list to make up for the Corsair, but I didn't look hard enough.  I originally meant to build the Corsair for the Korean War build as shown on page one but somehow lost track (as shown above) and ended up with a ww2 variant.  I don't have anymore Korean War crafts in my stash so Im gonna drop out of this one.    Sorry guys.  I may see you guys in some other GB's im in. 

I'm sorry to hear that Ripcord. If you happen to pick something up between now and the end of this GB, please feel free to jump back in. After all Revell just reissued Monogram's nice old F-80...they still have the F-84E available for a song as well... and lots of armor subjects as well in 1/72, 1/48,and 1/35...

And since last weekends GB is now done, I am returning attention to my Centurion. Today I got the smoke grenade launchers cleaned up, the added wiring trimmed and the launchers installed...

I then replaced the kit jerry can with a proper Brit one from an Italeri Jerry Can set and scratch built the mount frame from some brass I have. I also added the mantlet and cleaned up and mounted the antenna mount. The cable spool was added and thread supergluedin place for the commo wire on the spool.

I placed the barrel in the mantlet and mounted the turret just to see how she is gonna look. Nearing the finish line for building. Looks like I will be working on the tracks this weekend since rain is in the forecast.

Great work everyone!  I did spray the HRS-2 with some primer and I have a few areas to touch up but nothing that bad.  Now that I am at the painting stage of the Lancer, I will have more time to finish up the helicopter while the monster is drying.

Stikpusher, loving your work on the turret of the Centurion.  This tank sure has an odd looking barrel as it is way too big for its size.  Can't wait to join you guys with my Chaffee as soon as I finish my Marder II for the Marder Madness... you guys are next!  This GB definitely could use more armors... too many wingy things!

Yes it certainly is an imposing main gun. I think on my kit it looks bigger at the moment just due to it not being painted yet. The AM barrel I am using is a story in itself. It was not very well machined and the machining grooves and marks were rather pronounced. I actually had to sand this one quite a bit to a much smoother finish. So much for AM parts always being just "drop in place".

Here is a real Centurion just to give an idea of how the gun looks. The 20 Pdr was an 84mm high velocity stabilized tank gun based on the design of the German KwK 43 88mm gun used on the King Tiger, Jagdpanther, and Nashorn/Hornisse.

Well the F84 is started, I started the cockpit and a few other things. I plan on having the cockpit put together this weekend and then painting next week. I only work monday to wednesday so a 4 day weekend to work on models will be nice! I'm not planning on making this a long build either, probably end up giving it to my little nephew to hang from his ceiling. I'm just not a jet builder but they do interest me a bit.

I don't know... as much as I love prop jobs, there is something about fast movers to me... Mustang vs. F86... well in my eyes the Saber just cannot be beat- one of the most visually appealing fighters ever flown in combat. And I do like the F-84 as well, a very businesslike bird of the same era. Sort of like comparing the 50's Chevy Bel Aire to the Corvette. Both are sweet, but one just has more to it.

As for me today, it was track building day for some 3 hours or so. Did I mention that I really HATE indy link tracks. But I must admit that they do look better. Especially compared to the kit tracks on this old one.

so anyways I would file off ejector pin marks, attachment points, and seam lines on groups of 5 links at a time then snap them together.

Eventually I made two full length runs equal to the kit supplied rubber band tracks. I have them here laid side by side for comparison of the inner and outer surfaces.

And then placed on the suspension just to see how it looks. The tracks are flexible for placement but rather fragile this way. Once I have the inner surface painted I will position them properly and glue them on the beast.

and with the upper hull and bazooka skirts placed just to see how its all gonna look...only a few more parts to add before painting can begin.
