That bluenose looks awesome OWL. im just wondering, is the flash washing the blue out a bit? Seems a bit pale to me.

The early bluenosers were painted in PRU blue, so it's supposed to be pale. 

Not sure when they switched to the darker blue, but I know it was sometime in '44.

ok so im kinda new so im still adjusting. How do you put the GB pics for your profile next to your signature.

You have to host photos on a hosting site. Most people use photobucket. Once loaded on there copy the url. Then in the sig box theres a icon that look like a film strip. Select that and paiste the url. Its the same as for putting photos into a post.

Thanks for all the compliments, guys!  I had a lot of time over the holiday break to work on these models. Yay, vacation!

It doesn't look like you have the whole URL, there is no photobucket link there. You have hosted it on another site, correct? It can be hard to explain, especially as i am no computer wizard

OWL I know the feeling. A bit of free time and a few long sessions just got my two swing wing GB entries finished in time.

O'kay I've resurected "Ill Wind". Fixed all of the damage, stripped back the paint mostly. I lost a lot of panel detail fixing damage around the nose and had to use the AM stabilizers and elevators. One question, is there a defenestration prevention hotline for modelers? If I can't figure a way to line up the ID bands at the wing to flap join this thing is going out the window.

It seems all right on the top, I just can't get the bottom to line up.

And...Hairless Joe is done!

Overall, I have to say this is probably my favorite build yet - both in terms of the kit and the end results. An absolute blast. I foresee many Tamiya Jugs in my future!

jbrady  If you can't get the bands perfect, don't get beat up about it, just do the best you can. The point of thise thing is to enjoy it, not have a break down over it. And if the top looks good, well whos going to see the bottom. And them lines don't look that bad from here.

DoogsATX: I've been looking forward to the finished product... you didn't disapoint. Love the subtle weathering and the contrast between the colors of upper camo. The filtering really worked well.

Doogs,  you sure did a great job on " Hairless Joe ".  I have a quick question on the port and starboard identification lights.   Did you drill a small divot in the back of the lens to make a bulb then paint them with a clear green and red?  I cannot figure out how you made them look so good.

Tamiya deserves all the credit...the wingtip nav light housings are actually clear pieces, each with a little indentation in them for you to paint clear red/blue. Since they're tiny and curved, they're a PITA to handle, but they look great.

Doogs When i see models like that, i don't know if i should be inspired or just give up the hobby. I know you haven't been on the site very long, but in my book you rank as one of the top aircraft builders on the site.

jbrady - I still maintain that the "single piece of tape" method works best. The last time I was masking the wing ID bands, I cut the tape to the necessary widtch (this is before I picked up 10mm Tamiya tape), picked out some surface details to use as markers, and laid the tape up top. Once you've got it where you want along the main wing surface, hold it so you're looking straight down on it and ever so gently sort of pull and lower the tape over the flap. I've found that, given the chance, a tape strip that wide will prefer to lay down in a straight line, which is why masking various curved surfaces is such a pain. But it works for the flaps. 

Once you've got the uppers masked, flop it over and do the bottom. Here you have an easier and harder time, because you can use the overhanging tape from up top to align your underside strips. 

After the tape is down, slice through it with an xacto and remove the flaps and paint them separately. I've found this works easier.

Bish - what can I say to that? I'm honored! I look around and I'm in awe of so much of the work that goes on here...I know I've improved a lot from where I was as a teenager...but one of the top around here? I'm not sure about that...

DoogsATX: I don't know why this is kicking my butt. I've painted those stripes four times now and every time I pull the tape off the stripes are subtly "off". I'm just going to go with what I got. The thing is no matter how well the rest of the model turns out, I will know that those damn stripes are wrong.

And really, I've looked at a lot of built models and yours can stand up to any that I've seen.

sorry but i wont be able to have the b-24 in for about a month or so, i was supposed to get it yesterday, but the usps screwed up. I should have it in a week or so, but i am a very sloooowww modeler.

jbrady, the stripes don't seem to be off at all, from the photos.  I saw your P-47 in the OD thread in the aircraft forum and thought it looked great, too.  Keep at it.

I_AM_THE_GREATEST  No worries, theres plenty of time. I won't be starting mine till late may, and i'm the host.

Ill hopefully be starting mine next month. cant wait to get cracking on a 32nd scale kit. Its my first one.Just gotta clear the bench first.
