I got the flight deck all done.  Installed three of the blast deflectors in the raided position, and except for a couple of minor items on the catwalks the flight deck is done.  I did spend about six hours on the fire hose heels, adding thin black string to them, and I think the effort was worth it.

Don't worry, I'll weather the flight deck once the island is in place

I'm finally feeling better and started the horror of building the Lex's guns with PE.  I've finished assembling the 12 five inch  guns.  Now, I have to try and drill out the bores and paint them.  Then will come the 27 20mm cannons each with 4 PE parts(sight, shield, shoulder brace, and, locking wheel) followed by 24 .50cal machineguns with 1 PE part each (sight)

Major construction of the Enterprise is done! Time to gloss coat, add the flight deck marking decals, weather and flat coat it. Oh, yea guess I still need to do the aircraft for the flight deck.

Anyway first up is the island:

I have put on railings to the main mast after the picture was taken, which when this picture was taken the mast wasn't attached yet. The railings might be visible in the next set.

The completed ship: (also added the nets around the flight decks, all PE)

Yes!  Try here:  http://www.starfighter-decals.com/resin-aircraft-for-aircraft-carrier-kits.html

All the best

Ray

My mistake!  These A/C are not 1/350th but are for the old REVELL Box-scale carrier kits...Sorry about getting your hopes up...

Change of plans for my 1/350th USS Lexington!  Yesterday I ordered a "backdate" kit for the ship as it appeared

between 1938 and 1941.  That will mean very few 20mm cannon and the addition of 4 twin 8" turrets.

The only progress since my last post is that I've cut out the plastic grills on the stacks and replaced them

with PE.  Pix later.

All the best

The promised update photos.  First, very little progress has been made due to a trip to San Francisco and an airline supplied cold.

First, I replaced the stack cap grills with PE from the Gold Medal Models set.

Next, the change of plan to backdate the ship to it's 1941 configuration.  The conversion set has arrived.

The set consists of brass, white metal, brass PE, and, resin with a really good set of instructions.

The brass and white metal:

The PE:

The resin:

The plans:

That's it for today.  Now to get off my lazy butt and get started.

All the best

The USS Enterprise CVN-65 is done!  Got the flight deck decaled and weathered last week and got all those dang small planes done this week.  Lots of pics.

The ship all weathered without the aircraft:

Aircraft added:

And finally a close up of the island:

Slowly beginning work on the Arizona. I was doing a little reseaching last night and I came across an article on the colors the ship was painted in and it mention the use of Medium Blue on all above waterline surfaces save the wooden decks and medium gray on the upper halves of the mast towers. Of course turrets 1,2 and 3 tops were painted red.

What would be a good medium blue to use?

Scott
