When I removed the shutters on my Gato I scribed with the xacto, it takes a while but once the lengths are done a little flexing will snap the ends  if they are done at least half way through.

A Dremel cutting wheel would do most of it quickly and can even be used to sand to the seam if careful.

Buffirn

I assume that you are cutting them out to the molded line.  If so, you could scribe those lines repeatedly with a scribing tool or a knife blade.  It will take some time, but it should work on a piece that big.

Jim

I thought about that but it's 2mm thick here. Scribing would take a really long time.

Thank you.

uctrekker:  do you have a dremmel?  that might help just use it at low speeds other wise it could melt the plastic.  but a dremmel with a cutting wheel helps alot.  You can find a wide assortment on Micormark.com

Hi Good,

I have a Dremel with cutting wheel set at the lowest speed 5000k. That's how I first opened it up. It still melted the plastic, though. Now, I'm using razor saws and files to enlarge the holes and this is what has slowed me down.

Work on the torpedo shutters has slowed to a crawl. Because the plastic is very thick here, cutting these out has taken forever it seems. Anyone out there have any suggestions on how I can speed things up?

I have 2  Hobby Boss subs and they both look great.  The Oscar didn't turn out as well as I had hoped.  I tried a couple of new techniques, but they didn't pan out.  I will ty to finish the other sub, a WWII German Type VIIc, soon and post some more pictures.

Nice, I personally have never done a Sub.  But after looking at this i just might.  Thank you!!

I got my Oscar II done finally.  It is a simple yet good kit.  No fit problems.  There are only 10 parts without the periscopes.

trying something new with Hancock. if this works it means I could lay down 4 carrier hulls a week. she is shabby looking ,but after 3 layers of copy paper and 3 coats of naval gret primer she will be looking good.

Hi Guys, well the hard part to Oriskany has been done. the bow with the bridle horns is finish, just neds a little clean up.  the customer ship comes first, but no worries Hancock is still on track.

JerrynFrog

I would like to join in with a Revell  SMS Emden 1/350 that I started three years ago.  I'm a slow builder so the time frame is about right for me.

The pic was taken on Thursday and since then I have glued the hull together. I encountered  problems with the alignment of the rear pieces that hold the propeller shafts. Also, I used the extra thin Tamiya solvent and ended up with some fingerprints where I held the parts together. I did take care to have this not happen.

All is fixable and I am now in the process of cleaning up my mistakes (Mr. Surfacer 500 and sandpaper)

Awsome welcome aboard look forward to seeing more pictures.  I dont know if i have seen ships like this before.  So it will be interesting to see it when its all done.  Welcome Sign
