Gregbbear

Thanks guys, I appreciate it!

John, B-57 is looking good.  Thanks to you, Canberras are singing to me!  I'm not sure when I'll get to it, but I won an Airfix Mk20 in 72nd scale.  I want it to be an RAAF in Vietnam night intruder when I get to it.

Ripcord, yes 100 degrees is a brisk day in AZ!  But it is the DRY heat, lol.  My wife is from Phoenix, and all she ever does is complain about the humidity.  She says Texas should be the bad hair state, not the lone star state.  If I try and paint on a day like that, all I get is grit too.  I still have to spray a lot closer than I do during the rest of the year.  How's it with the dust out there?

Cheers,

Greg

Thanks Greg and congrats on the ebay score of the Airfix RAAF Mk20 Canberra Yes

I think I read somewhere that the Airfix kit has those wing tip bomb pylons/bracket included , if that is the case , when you get yours would it possible to post a pic of one , as I need to scratch a couple up for my High Planes Mk20 Canberra .

Speaking of Night Intruder Canberra's , we've had a bit of wet weather here in Sydney these past couple of days , quite the opposite to the sunny days in Texas , so airbrushing paints has been put on hold for the time being . So in the mean time I still would like to add some more B-57 Canberra's to your GB and I mentioned before about a "Candle" trio of a C-123K Provider Flare Ship , a B-57B (Hells Angel) and the O-2A Skymaster FAC .

I searched around the net for some images of the Flare Ship and found these two C-123K pic's ...

Because of the wet weather and no airbrushing I decided to jump ahead a little and do some prelim' work on Mach 2's C-123 ...

I have built two of these kits before (however their yet to be painted) and there is quite a lot of work involved in getting the parts cleaned up and ready for glueing .

On the inside of nearly every piece are these big lugs that stick up and need to be ground down with a motor tool ...

Because there is so much Grinding , sawing and filing ; I set up the bench in the garage so as not to cover my work area inside with plastic dust ;

There are a few major issue's with the kit and having some previous experiance in putting them together , I was able to do a fair bit of the heavy filing early on ;

The wheel well opening for the main landing gear and wheels is too small and I needed to saw and file about 3mm more to get the wheel to fit ;

This also means I will need to extend the sides of the wheel boxing that fits inside each fuselage half and I'll do that later on .

There is also quite a bit of heavy filing on both fuselage pieces in the middle (top and Bottom) so the nose and the tail can close up a bit better ;

Also the slots for the rear horizontol stabilizers are heavilly  flashed over and the moter tool is required to clean out the slots ;

That's about it so far , as well as modifying the main gear boxing next , there is some additional work on the cockpit floor and bulkhead to get them to fit correctly .

I hope the Flare Ship fits in with the theme of the Night Fighter GB , seeing that the C-123K is the most difficult to build out of the Three aircraft 'candle Trio' I just thought I would make a start on her first , the B-57B Night Intruder goes together easily and the O-2 looks straight forward as well .

Fine weather predicted for tomorrow , so it will be to airbrushing the B-57G .

                              John .

Greg,

Glad to see your build progressing so nice. It does suck to get to a certain stage and realize you left something undone.  Anxious to see it completed.

Your P-70 is looking quite good Greg Yes

I'm yet to try any real type of weathering and washes on my aircraft builds , all my stuff looks way too clean most of the time !

Casper's Sea Venom is awesome , especially the cockpit seats .

Well done Sir Toast

I have managed to get the tan (Gunze H-310) layed down on my B-57G ;

I'll mask tonight for the two greens , H-303 and then the H-309

100 F degrees! Nice...Add 15 more for me and it would be perfect.  100 is a little chilly for me.  Only 97 today. Long sleeves for me.  Good job on the model.  Does your airbrush paint dry as soon as the trigger is pulled?  I usually end up with a powder coat.

Hello, after spraying on my flat coat, most of my weathering seem to disappear.  So, I tried some oil paint washes, a little bit of dot filtering.  It was my first time, and it went okay.  I repaired the rickety main gear (again), this time using epoxy.  I started putting stuff together, and I realized I forgot to paint the inside of the gear doors.  100 degrees today, so it didn't get done.  Almost there though....  Here are a few pics.  Forgive my photography, please.

Cheers,

Greg

thanks everybody! It was a sweet little kit and very enjoyable to build. IF you ever need a de-stresser kit, this would be a nice one to get! Toast

Manny, are you gonna enter a build or are you lurking? Come to think of it, I'm not sure if I ever saw one of your builds yet. I must not be looking in the right places....

Thanks Hercmech, I am glad the pictures are showing.  That would totally be me to find some weird way for the computer to show them on my screen and not anybody elses!

Greg,

Please disregard my ignorance...I guess I was just not scrolling down far enough on the page. I like the way it looks and I love the page reference. Great job with that, some GB don't go that far.

Awesome builds Owl and Caspar!

Herchmech, I have been posting pictures with the corresponding page number for all the completed builds.  It shows up on my page one.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong?  Until I updated it with Owl and Caspars builds, yours was the last one added.  Please check it out, and let me know.  Can everybody else see the images on page ?  I'm not the most tech savvy person, so I plead ignorance if it isn't working.

Thanks again for the awsome builds.

Cheers,

Greg

Manstein's revenge

Nice a/c guys---one of the better GB's in a while on here, IMO...

That is high praise indeed....thanks Manny!

Greg,

Any chance of getting the completed builds on the 1st page of the GB? Would be a nice place to go to see all our work without having to dig through all the pages. Just my 2 cents

stunning build Casper!!

The ME-262 is now finished!! The decals were applied over a coat of Future, then a filter/wash toned everything down and blended it all together.

Ok, I'm calling this Venom NF.3 done. A relatively straightforward build aside from the issues of a mold this old. With a bit of AM sprucing the office came up a treat.

Cheers

Casper awesome detail on the seats ,nicely done!

Thanks Trey, I've just finished seat number 2 and my eyes have gone crazy!  Glued them into the cockpit and attached the ejection handles to the headrest. I'm stoked, I've never seen a Matchbox office look this good! Just awaiting the glue to dry the canopy into a raised position and then I'll take some pics.

Cheers

I was going to leave the seats as they were, just painted but I thought as there is such a nice big canopy (open or closed) I should have a go at rigging all of the supplied harnesses with the Aires seats.

So 2 hours later...

...and some eye strain I think it looks good. A bit of a black thinned oil wash will help hide some of the messy joins and such. Also note the seat on the left, on both I had to cut away the bottom half before the cushions so they would fit in the cockpit. Also seems through studying the markings, the NF.3 planes were not fitted with ejection seats. In the instructions there is a slightly flatter canopy and the tops cut off the supplied seats.I have decided to ignore this as clearly the seats I am using are! Stick out tongue

Ok...onto seat number 2!

Cheers
