Nice 110! I'm constantly amazed at everyone's ability with those goofy German radar antennae.

I've actually eyed Master's replacement...but they recommend soldering. My eyes hurt just thinking about it!

1/48 I assume/ They look great, but soldering? I'd have to take it to some 15 year old micro-electronics whiz to have that done for me!

I can't even imagine trying to solder those things. I would blister every finger I have and a few toes even trying to do it.

Wow, that's some beautiful work Satch. One thing I've always loved about Luftwaffe birds is the cool camo the Germans did, and you did a great job pulling it off. Plus I'm impressed by how you guys can do the complex radar antenna without knocking them off and getting the parts eaten by the carpet monster...

And for once I must agree with Manny, dang but Schnaufer was a bad mojo and a half...

Uggg!  Lost the long post.  Here we go again.

My tribute to Major Heinz Wolfgang Schnaufer is complete.  Pro Modeler Bf110G-4 OOB with just a PE gun sight and Peddinghaus decals.  MM acrylic RLM 74/75/76 in an ad libbed scheme taken from several sources.  Some pastels to vary to topside tones and replicate exhaust streaks.  Here she is.

On the self with two of Heinz Bar's mounts.

The American shelf.

Thanks for looking guys.  Greggbear, thanks for hosting this GB, it's been a hoot.  I've expanded my library and knowledge researching night fighters.

 Hercmech:

Looks good Satch. One question if you will...maybe stupid but whats the deal with the markings on the vertical stabs? I assume they are mission markings or something just wondering.

Those are Hauptman Schnaufer's kill markings.  He ended the war as the highest scoring night fighter ace of all time with 121 victories.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/76/Heinz-Wolfgang_Schnaufer_tail_fin.JPG/220px-Heinz-Wolfgang_Schnaufer_tail_fin.JPG

That MOJO was BADARSE...and all this before he was 30...and all of his kills have been confirmed by British sources so there are no lingering doubts about his high talley...sad that he was killed shortly after the war in France when a truck carrying wine casks overturned on his car and crushed him to death with a cheap port...he would have had a heck of a biography to write...

Scorpy and Greentracker: Great looking stuff guys! Keep the photos coming.

Satch: Sharp lookin' 110, I wouldn't worry too much about all those tiny lil' stencils. And dang but that's alot of kill markings.... Indifferent

Doogs I kinda ad libed the scheme.  It's standard 74/75/76 colors and the vertical surfaces are accurate to the profiles.  I have not found any good photos of Shnaufer's 110 and the profiles only show the sides.  The cover of Bf110 G Walkaround has his plane and I used that as a guide as well as the Kagero Bf110 book centerfold.  There are also a couple of artists paintings that I used too.  I need one of those Artistic Licenses that were floating around here.

Very nice work, satch! Don't think I've ever seen a scheme like that on a Luftwaffe bird before!

Thanks for the heads up re: Peddinghaus decals! I wish to high heaven that Eduard would start making and selling standalone decal sheets...their sheet for the 109E-7 is probably the single best decal sheet I've ever used. Though the Barracudacals stuff is quite nice, too, but their selection is kind of weak.

All right, entering the home stretch with the 110.  Cammo applied and glossed, decals applied, now ready for flat coat and wx.

Have to go  back and attach all the small details like the radar and the wheels after the dull coat.  Then she should be finished.  I'm hoping today, depending on what the wife has planned for me...

A word about Peddinghaus decals.  They make beautiful decals of subjects very hard to find but they are EXTREMELY fragile.  Even on the paper the ink can wear off with too much handling and they are very susceptible to breakage during application.  Don't know if it's the crappy Testors gloss or the decals but they silver too.  They will lay down nicely and with care look good.  I got tired of trying to apply tiny stencils so don't look too closely.  Smile

JBrady...what can I say it sucks. Between you and Doogs, I am beginning to think there is a "dark" pall over this group build. Tongue Tied Makes me nervous as I proceed on with my Gekkou.

Hechmech,

Just keep those  Censored "dark pall" Censored thoughts to yourself. I'm not going there Zip it!

Hey guys. Heres a couple of the intruders pit. Not too happy with the IP or the seats. Thinking about getting some AM seats for my other one. But i dont think i did too badly for 72nd scale.

C&C welcome. The IP is in but the CP is still awaiting installment. I need to shave a little off the edges for it to fit right.

Trey, the Ar 234 NF turned out great too.  You're really pumping them out fast.  I hope my Arado turns out half as nice as yours.

Doogs, sweet Mossie.  Are going to enter that in the Austin Show?  Hope to see you there.

Thanks! Not sure if I'm going to enter the Mossie, but my 109 and P-47 may well be there, and more, depending on what I manage over the next few months!

That 110 is looking pretty slick! I need to do another light-colored something so I can get more practice with pre-shading.

Trey - the Arado came out great!

Scorpiomikey - thanks! From what I've read they tried to keep these pretty smooth to maximize airspeed - think I'm going to go a lot further grunging up my next Mossie NF.II - a Night Intruder model based out of Malta. It's going to be a full-on dio, though, complete with Aires engine set and an engine being replaced after catching fire. Should be a nice challenge!

Gamera - I just picked up a Widow on eBay...don't think I'll be tackling her any time soon, but this thread will be great to revisit when the time comes!
