Anyone know where I can find AM M2's? The quality of the guns on both kits is pi$$ poor (I'm being kind).

Aires makes a set M2s.  Don't know exactly where I got them from (Greatmodels, i think), but I used them on my B-17G and they are really nice detailed kits.  They are the whole guns, and comes with ammo belts.  IIRC, you get two complete guns.

Looking good Trey.

The B25 J is ready to button up.

Now it's on to the D model. I'll post side by side pics for comparison in a coupel of days. There's not much room in the glass nose J model for weight but I figure I can fill the navigators tunnel with something. If that's not enough I can fill the front of the nacelles.

Jbrady the interior is smokin' ,nicely done

I'm almost ready for primer just need to rescribe a very few panel line areas lost during the filling and sanding

The Italeri kit is ready to button up

Over all the detail is crisper and much more defined than the Revelogram kit... having said that when I build these kits again I will not waste too much time on the interiors, most of the detail is invisible when the fuselage is glued together

Bottom's up II

Hell's Fire

Got one problem with Hell's Fire... the pic clearly shows the small D model nave dome behind the cockpit. The kit only has the larger B model dome. I'm looking for an AM part to rectify that. If I can't find it I'll have to figure out how to make the smaller dome.

The astrodome for the navigator was new to Cs and Ds (the B didnt have one), so the dome included in the kit is intended for a C and/or D model

There has been some debate on the shape of the dome included in the kit, though, and maybe that's what's throwing you off?

No it's the size of the dome included in the kit. The aircraft in question

The dome included with the kit

The mold I made that's in scale

The kit has markings for five aircraft none of those aircraft has a dome that is even half the size of the oen included with the kit.

There were also B-25s with domes larger than the one in your picture, so there was no specific "D model" dome.  That was really the point in my previous post, that there were no model specific domes

Some progress on both 25's.http://i1228.photobucket.com/albums/ee442/jbrady29/IMG_0710.jpg

The top pic is the cockpit from the Monogram J model,....... What's surprising to me is the similiarity of the enginering on kits designed 20 years apart. I guess Monogram got it right and there's no reason to reinvent the wheel. I like the injection molding on the Monogram IP over the AM version even though neither IP looks anything like a B 25 IP. The detail on the AM version is sharper and more delicate than the Monogram. Both cockpits need a wash and some drybrushing. Getting close to buttoning up both fuselages. The interiors of both of these kits have a lot of detail that won't be seen in the finished product.

Great to get that pic, I'm tying into that same kit next and wondered about the office detail, your's looks great. Yes

Thanks. The kit has not lived up to all the horror stories I heard about it. Dry fitting and sanding of parts before assembly and it comes together pretty well. One exception to that is the fit of the cowlings to the wing... very bad.

Progress on both birds... Italeri

The guy who designed the turrets on AM kits is just a little sadistic.

Blast shields from sheet styrene. I'm having trouble forming an astro-dome behind the cockpit... I made one but it was much too small and now I can't seem to duplicate the effort.

In some reviews it was said that the fit of the cowlings to the wings was problem... this is the only problem area I had.

The revelogram

This is the biggest problem area so far... who thought it was a good idea to put copyright info on the outside of a model

made a start on the B-17. No pics as yet, still fitting all the PE to the insides, haven't even started on the PE bomb bay yet. Will get some pics up once the inside is painted.

jbrady, since never having built a bomber beforeEmbarrassed, I've heard the nose will lift w/o weight in it, true with the B-25?

That's true for any tricycle gear aircraft

Reasoned: Stuff as much weight as you can in the nose. The landing gear well side of the navigators tunnel is a good place to start if you're building  a glass nose. I also stuffed weight in the front of the nacels. You can put weight anywhere you can hide it as long as it is in front of the main landing gear.

... who thought it was a good idea to put copyright info on the outside of a model

lol.. They did the same thing to the bottom side of one of the stabilizers on their P-51 kit I just finished. It makes you wonder what prompted the genius (after going through all the work creating molds for these kits) to do such a thing?

BTW, thanks guys for the nose weight heads up for tricycle gear craft. Wink

It may be a bit wierd of me but the last 2 Revell/ Monogram builds I have done I have left the logo on the tail just to show what kit they are, as they are getting fewer and farther between.

Really?  The Revellogram's (and a few Tammies) are about the only kits I can find at my LHS.  In stock at least

I rescribed the panel lines

TREY, hope you don't mind me asking, but in whatr order did you do the camo, and did you mask or freehand. I have a He 111 to build which is going to be in a similar scheme, except green splotchs on sand. I did the same kit years ago, it got ruined so i am replacing it. I sprayed it green then applied small blobs of putty as a mask and painted the yellow on top. But it don't look half as good as yours does. Just trying to pick up some tips before i re do the kit.

Bish I did the green as the overall color first and freehanded the sand splotches. What scale is your He 111?

Its the Italeri 72nd H-6 kit. I would like to do a better job than i did last time. I know in 72nd scale the over spray will be less obvious than in 48th, but i think now i am confident enough with a airbrush to try it free hand. Just woundered if you had any secrets lol.

Jbrady thanks, from the excellent builds I've seen you put out you've got nothing to worry about attempting a mottle

Bish thanks,as far as secret tips I do know some use silly putty to give a soft edge mottle cammo which would be excellent for 72 scale .

I finished it up in time for Memorial Day, I know its not an Allied aircraft  but thats not the point of the build. I enjoy doing off the beaten path builds regardless of what side the combatants fought on . By all accounts this Aircraft was well liked by its crews and served with the Lebanese Air Force until 1959 . I hope all had a great Holiday weekend and enjoyed following this build

some 'in flight' shots

thanks for taking the time to look any and all comments welcome,Trey
