Falklands/Malvinas War 30th Anniversary GB

The Scimitar isn't a very big vehicle - shouldn't take me too long to throw those Friuls together! Everything else was pretty much done assembly-wise. Almost ready for paint!

Well we didn't call them recce cars for nothing. can't wait to see it, how were those Fruils to put together.

Neat trick with the foam, I've never thought of that! I often use one of those cardboard "drink take-out trays" (maybe it's a North American -only thing??), seems to work good for keeping 1/72 bits & pieces from contacting things they shouldn't be bumping.

Well, they were the bad guys, ain't they always lousy shots.

As for me, well i would choise the Empire over the rebels, might explain my shooting

That looks a nice set, but not sure why HMS Trafalgar is their.

...and no fixed-wing either. I suppose they are all available, somewhere, and those that are interested know where to find the goods anyway. Still, a shame Airfix isn't pushing something, especially with their new-tool kits getting good reviews.

Agreed. I am guessing we will have to wait until the 50th until we get something special from them.

In the home stretch on the Sea Harrier. Landing gear getting painted up, decided to add some of the blade antennas last night. Added glue to one of the ones behind the cockpit, started to move it into place & dropped it on the painted surface. No problem, I grab it quickly with fingers, put it back into the tweezers, pick up the plane & carry on.

Then I realize that...

• I had a little smudge of glue on my thumb
• my thumb happened to fall exactly where the RN decided the roundel should be placed
• perhaps my flat coat wasn't thick enough
• Airfix decals MELT when touched by Tamiya liquid cement
• my red + blue smudgy thumbprint looks nothing like a RN roundel

With no spare roundels that match up (small, red+blue only), I'm thinking of gently sanding out the worst of the smudge, then just overpainting the base-colour gray. Thoughts?

What size roundrel? Sure I've got (some)

Sorry Vance LOL you performed a similar mr bean action .. hope in good repairs 

hmmm, I'd have to measure it to be sure. It's sitting on the side of a 1/72 Harrier right now! I'll have a look through my spares, see if I have anything close - but most of my stash is WW2. I may be contacting you for a replacement if I run out of luck!

When they arrive I'll make a decision and hopefully turn out both for this GB.

if the esci kit is 1/72 is the same italeri mold that i'm building.. you can be sure panel lines are really fine

Vance if you can feel some comfort about newbe errors i did lots of them recently

an accident occurred to the seabat four blades rotor and become two blades ... the gannet falling on it

on the gannet self i break one of these flaps support and one lost

these little and fragile pieces need to be glued only when the whole plane is about finished !!! lesson learned

Mine was more of a "rushing to do something before I had to leave the house" accident, but it still means a mess to clean up!

Port side before the glue issue, it looks so happy!! Also before the "mist coat" I applied to dull down the decals which looked too bright for the Falklands planes.

The underside decals, after I sliced & applied the roundels in halves...

The rest are "after the mist coat" . I think I like the effect, maybe took it a little far in places. Note the brass rod replacing the kit pitot tube.

And the screwed-up port-side roundel - what a mess!

BUT, I think I found the solution sitting in the same box, combining roundel decals from the two other options seems to measure out at the right sizes. I'll try it on a blank piece of styrene first just to make sure, but this is the plan:

Vance the only advice i can give for now is not try to repair the decals with paint really hard to match the same color.  Wow you literally melt the decal

I know, I wasn't kidding - it MELTED that decal. And my finger was only there for a few seconds! (I guess there wasn't enough dull-cote protecting that area!!)

Great weork at all Azorean, the ostic colors like white ,yellow and orange is really good some door cutted was perfect my compliments man.

.. only the jar in the tails is out of scale
