My kit has an Exocet, but I saw a post from someone else who is looking for one for his kit.

That Victor is a different looking machine, I don't think I've ever seen one built up!

Thats a nice Victor, and i have to say as well that you don't often see one built up. Be nice to see all 3 of the V bombers built up together.

Ye, would be nice to see a Falklands version for the 30th next year. But my guess is they will just re-release the Vulcan instead.

I had contacted Airfix/Hornby months ago as we were planning the group build and asked them about 30th anniversary releases. I was told at that time that there were none planned, fwiw.

Alright, a quick update & a couple of confessions!!! Most of the decals are on now. They do seem to stand out quite a bit on the dark gray. So the plan is to over-spray everything with a very thin mix of the base coat to try to dull them down. Most of these were pver-painted anyway from what I've seen) I probably should have just left the small stencils off... I just couldn't help myself. I had very good luck with the Airfix decals btw, even the roundels that straddle the venting areas on the fuselage sides. I put them down with a coat of Microsol, let them dry overnight, then came back the next day, sliced out the ares that needed to go inside the open areas & hit them with more microsol.

All thos crazy blade antennas & various fiddly bits will be added over the weekend.

yellow striping should be on the canopy framing (right?), but I followed the framing edges as I painted, which turned out to be too narrow to apply these decals to. Embarrassed

The red + black zig-zag... the placement sheet just pointed underneath the control surfaces, so I just guessed! Embarrassed These will be mostly over-sprayed anyway.

And the underside decals - sliced & diced after the pylons were mounted. So to fix this up.... I laid a strip of masking tape onto my cutting mat. Then I placed one of the un-mounted pylons up against the edge of the tape, then placed another strip beside the pylon, giving me the proper gap in between the two pieces. Then I took the portion of the decal sheet that had both roundels on it, and set it over top of the tape strips, secured it, and sliced across using the tape on either side as a guide for my straight edge. Next time.... I'll just add the pylons AFTER the decals like I was supposed to!!! Bang Head I think it worked alright though.

I'm happy with my paint mix for the aircraft, but there doesn't seem to be enough contrast between that and the enamel I had chosen for the gear bays... any thoughts??

I guess the 30th isn't really a big annerversary, not like 25, 50, 60 etc. But what with next year also being the 60th of the Queen on the throne and the London Olympics, i would have thought they could have thrown this in as well.

Nice looking Harrier Vance, i seem to recall they do have a lot of little things sticking out of the sides. You have done a good job with those decals.

Yes, probably 8-10 little bumps to add - after decals, so I don't knock them off!

Well the decals behaved quite well, making me very happy!! The red outline box on the topside was different. They give you four separate strips, one for each side. So I placed the rear line (as I could locate it using a panel line), then one side, (so I could make sure the spacing was even working out from the centre), then the front section (now that I knew how far forward it needed to go. Then I left that whole lot to dry overnight, then came back and added the last side piece. Took 2 sessions but everything seems to have lined up.

I haven't done an Airfix kit for as long as i can remember. And the only one i have in the stash i have AM decals for. Sounds like they have improved a lot since i last did one. Sounds like quite a job as well for such a small aircraft

you suggest a commemorative airfix queen scale kit? Whistling

Vance the harrier looks good , i'll pay attention of your warnings for the roundel stencil decals, the pylons decals problems is out good Surprise

yellow stripes on the canopy??  is better to paint it i think.

At the end this airfix kit looks  pretty molded. The italeri kit ,even if came with finest details, not include airbrake option and main gear well.

(OK, this is kind of a "thread-bump" Whistling pics coming later!)

I finished up the decals that I'm using on the Sea Harrier over the weekend, then went back and oversprayed with a lightened version of the base coat. (First time I've really done overspray that was more than just weathering.) It gave me the effect I was looking for, the decals as supplied look good, but are for a factory-fresh machine with bright reds and sharp black lettering. I then hit the upper surfaces with the last of my ModelMaster dullcote, which I am kind of regretting now. It seems to have sprayed unevenly, looks a little splotchy. Not sure if I'll call it "salt-spray stains" and leave it as-is, or use a little more dullcote from another can to finish it.

Also, one Bang Head moment - I managed to snap the pitot tube(?) that mounts to the nose. I'll have to save the piece that mounts the tube, attach some brass rod to it. Ahhh well, it'll be stronger in the long run anyway I suppose!

Hey fellas! One of the fall contests is in the books, means I'm finally done with a 3-month megabuild. Jumping back into the Scimitar shortly - will be nice to do something smaller, and this thread REALLY needs some armor!

Haaahahahha...nice. Speaking of tracks, I accidentally picked up some Friuls for the Scimitar in the interim - the kit ones are WAY too tight, leading to stretchiness, which made them look totally fake. ALSO snagged the out-of-print Bison decal sheet that includes markings for a Falklands-specific Scimitar! Pretty happy I was able to find those. Had hoped to get a few accessories from Accurate Armour as well (those big fat ropey tow cables and correct fire extinguishers) but wasn't able to justify the expense. Maybe later. Will just have to do with what's on hand!

Vance - yeah, cycling season is indeed winding down - couple hundred more miles and I meet my goal for the year. After that, I'll head out if it's sunny/warmish, otherwise it's 100% bench time.

Bish - glad to be back! Super motivated to build after going to AMPS last weekend (and Granitecon in 2 more weeks).
