Got the cockpit assembled

vetteman! Don't know if it's already on the roster or not, but put me down for a 1/48 Tamiya Razorback! Jug fever's driven me to move my P-47s to the front of the queue, and this one'll be a crossover with my P-47 GB. Markings for "Magic Carpet" of the 366th Fighter Group/9th Air Force. It's one of the more oddball P-47 schemes I've seen - Olive Drab/Neutral Gray fuselage, bare metal wings, cowl ring, cowl flaps and canopy frame.

Not sure exactly when I'll be starting, but it and the Revellogram just got their warm soap baths tonight, so...soon!

Yes indeed. It's Academy kit # 1662. I highly recomend it.

 As for acuracy, I have built the 1/48 Italeri T-6 aswell and that also lacks some critical detail ,like rivet lines on the wings and tail. But I only know this because I am closely involved with the full size planes and it is then very easy to find fault

Otherwize I realy enjoyed the build.

dunno what the kit is i bought it cheap and it came in a blank box :) i shall endevour to acertain its origins

I used Tamiya X-11 chrome silver and the very shiny top pic is with Humbrol gloss clear enamel just before decaling.

Then I toned it down (not really enought though, it's still to shiny) with Humbrol satin clear enamel.

Tamiya is to "shiny silver" and I will most likely use Humbrol 11 silver as it looks more like bare Allu when a satin coat is on.

here is the level of "shine" I recon an infield bare metal plane would look like. I used Humbrol 11 with satin humbrol on this SAAF F-15D and will be doing the same on my 1/72 P-51.

im going to do a 72 scale f104 what if build 1st partly to try out nmf (never done it yet) and partly to try a little theory iv got (that may prove to be complete rubbish but we shall see lol)

Theuns nice work on the little T-6, the paint went on nice and smooth too.  Hard to do if seems on that small a scale. Ok so what paint did you use anyway so I can update the front page with your 1/72 Academy T-6g Texan. I think your friend is going to like the Mini Texan too.

Hi All.

I have been doing some spraying and fabric work for a  firend who owns a number of full size T-6g and decided to give him a little model of a T-6.

I didn't think it would be in NMF and therefore didn't take a whole bunch of WIP pix, but here goes anyway.

I must say it was a nice simple little weekend madness plane with some good cockpit detail and relatvely good fit and detail. Well worth the $12.

All I added were the maskingtape seatbelts.

Hoping to get some silver on the P-51 this weekend.

halfpint hey dont feel bad I am in the same boat as you. I will be starting my build after the holidays, am still trying to decide if I want to tackle the B-29 right off the bat or maybe practice build first. I havent used foil in a very long time.

Well it has been 6 monthes since I entered this cbp and so far got nothing to show.I will finish my commision build tomorrow then I can get on my F84G sometime in the next weekHope to get an update up by the end of the week.

Is it too late for me to join? 

Theuns looks like you got the color for the interior pretty darn close to my eye, actually the shades varied a bunch on the real Mustangs. Great work on those tiny seat belts too !!! I cant even see myself even thinking of making those that small.

This little P-51 is a real pleasure to build, the dryfit  of the wingroot looks exelent sofar.

Here is where it stands now, I have been a tad busy painting a friend's full size T-6 Texan (Harvard) and the long hours eat into my "play time" LOL!

The interior colour might not be correct, I just mixed what I had to look about "right"

Theuns the Malcolm hood is correct for the P-51B and C Mustangs, It was a common modification in Europe. Your build is starting off very well

Here is the sprue shot of my Academy 1/72 P-51B .

I have basically completed the painting of the interior and highlighted with a bit of white and silver drybrushing.Assembly of the cockpit bits wil comence tonight :-)

The plans call for the floof to be light brown, I can only assume this to be timber floorboards like on the T-6's. The black smudges on the brown are there to look like boot scuff marks as the rudder peddals were danced on LOL!

The kit also gives a malcom hood canopy, does anyone know if it would be correct for this plane??? It looks allot better than the flat top.

i thought the c was a single seater? (iv only had a quick look at the box)

i know they stripped EVERYTHING out of it thats why i called them cheats haha (theres a certain british interceptor that was alot older that was faster than a service eagle)

Eatthis IMHO the C would be close enough with a few changes unless you want to count rivets. Main changes would be the engines had the turkey feathers on the Streak Eagle, the air brake behind the cockpit was the short one but it was sealed closed, and the rear cockpit wasn't there just some avionics that need to be there for flight.  On the front cockpit the radar screens for firing systems were removed, only what was needed for flight was there also to save weight. It did have a tail hook on it but the end wasn't a hook, was more like a trailer hitch thing used to hold it back for full power launches as I understand it. Oh almost forgot the ejection seat was from an A-4 IIRCC. But the one in the C might be the right one. Anyway if you want I have a few pictures I can send you that I used for referance if you like from my build last year.

Eat What kit are you using for the shiny Eagle.

I am debating on my start for the group after the holidays, Haven't used foil in a couple of years and don't want to do a not so good job on the B-29. So I am thinking I have a F-80 in the stash I just may start so I can brush up so to speak on my foiling. Besides there are a few tricks I want to try out before the B-29 build. @ CallSignOwl.
