The WIFE thing got me rather busy in addition to my engineering work project going full steam these days.  I just found that my new CA cement is like half dried up.  Anyways, I am still around.  AND apparently reading the email updates.  =D

Bsyamato,

Yes, a two-legged walking machine is a very complex and delicate thing.  It took years for scientists to develop successful walkers.  The combination of the availability of powerful software, composite materials, and lightweight/compact batteries has allowed them to become a reality today.  I can't imagine something like that being able to take a lot of damage and still function though.  Plus, an upright machine would be a bullet magnet in a battlefield.  A "crab tank" would be more survivable - low to the ground and easy to conceal.

BUT!  For non-combat situations, maybe a Patlabor-sized machine might be feasible.  I can see applications for space and ground construction, fire/emergency services, forest logging, and other industries where the terrain might be difficult for wheeled vehicles, or where high weight payload handling with extreme dexterity is required.  So never say never!

I would like to have a robo-maid and robo-garderner, so I can have time to build some models...

LOL good points Cool me too was surprised about the too low supposed ms weight, also for the generator power, but some time ago i speak with a sort of scentist (siemens new technology researcher) about a possibility of human walking robots and (was 1997) he speak about the difficulty of calculation amount (fractals things.. no things for me Tongue Tied ) about an human walking machine.... this seems resolved by the thing in the video and from the us army mechanix mule researchs

as you can see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqMVg5ixhd0&feature=relmfu ....

I'm thinkin real MS as in the anime are almost impossible, but things few taller and with differents composite materials that allow few final weight are possible even now Cool

At least a labor could be ? Embarrassed

Bsyamato,

Even though we are all MS fans, I don't think 18m tall bipedal machines will become a reality.  For one, since a typical mobile suit is 10x human size, the higher stresses would result in a bulkier form than a human's.  I think the Zaku's weight was based on the assumption that it would weigh 10x10x10=1000 times a human's weight, which would be 75 tons for a 150 lb (68 kg) human.  My guess is that a mobile suit would weigh a lot more, maybe 300-500 tons.  A 1.5 MW (2,000 hp) generator would be totally inadequate to move such a heavy machine.

What started me thinking about this was a photo in B-Club magazine, where a Tiger I model in the same scale as a Dom was shown at the Dom's foot.  The caption noted that the weight of the Tiger was essentially the same as the Dom's empty weight, but the Tiger was only the size of the Dom's foot.  The Dom is supposedly made from steel-ceramic composite (real world Chobham armor?), so it's mass should be similar to the Tiger's.

And as anyone who has built a Perfect Grade kit will know, the movable bits are incredibly complicated, and a real MS would probably be more so.  And before anyone chimes in to remind me that it is only science fiction, yes I know.  I'm just here to buy the models and watch the shows; I don't live in the UC.

Personally, I think human-sized combat drones are more likely to become a reality.  And non-humanoid ones are even more likely (robo-machine gun dog, armored giant cockroach, etc).  And while powered suits are really cool, they don't address the vulnerability of the operator.  So no Bubblegum Crisis hardsuits or Moto-Slaves.

But the UC origin of mobile suits as space construction machines is entirely possible.  So coming full circle, maybe mobile suits might become a reality one day...

Oh darn, I've gone and confused myself now.

Bsyamato,

Sorry, nothing moving forward over here.  It has been crazy(er) at work for the last month.  I will try to get back on with the Gog and Dom soon.  I promise.  Really.  Whistling

BTW, it is pouring rain, with thunder and lightning, here in Hawai at the moment - very different from our typical sunny weather.  A bunch of main roads are closed on Kauai.  I could have used an amphibious mobile suit to cross the street, as I'm typing this barefoot while my boots and socks dry out.  (Clarification:  I'm typing with my hands, while barefoot, not typing with my bare feet!  Stick out tongue )  But as they say "Lucky we live Hawaii", because the people on the mainland are getting slammed with tornadoes.  If anyone out there in the affected areas is on the forum, please take care.

bsy - those outdoor pics are great! Gives you some idea of how big these are supposed to be.

No update for me yet, the spring shows are both at the end of the month, so I've been feverishly working on finishing some other projects for those. Will be back on the M61A5 soon after.

Looks good in the sun.

I like the HG kits too, mostly because they are cheap and i am poor. :P I did pick up the HG Gouf flight type. Looks like a decent kit, although i wont get to it for a while, ive already started think how i could mod it a bit.

I prefer the MG kits because i like the size of them. This year i am going to find an MG Kampfer as the annual gift to myself as i did last year with the Sazabi.

Thanx Doctor Toast

Finally weather take a little break and shooting something

That's all for the Gogg, In some way think that making hguc give more fun that MG's because mods are simply to do ,and if something goes wrong you not burn about 50€ of a good kit Embarrassed

Will try to start even the Guntank to add here Stick out tongue

So i put no barnacles and no more weathering but "real" weathering being to break *****

so i take some indoor pictures with occasionally pucca gogg at my home for repairs (the owner friend break one of knee joints)

Will take sunlight pictures just as the sun will come out from the permanent cloudy and raining time that by two weeks rules here (at least no snow here Whistling )

I think it looks sea-weathered already. Yep, the only thing to add would be barnacles! Smile

Wow, nice Gogg! I don't think it needs more weathering, but I guess it depends what sort of look you're going for?

I'km going to take pics soon, my Magella is close to being finished.  The main coat is almost done.  I just got finished putting a Zeon flag tag on the sides of the tank like the british and commonwelth did in WWI, you know, those stripes along the side.  I used Red black red for zeon

If your busted AB is a Badger, you can always send it to them, they will figure out what it wrong with it and fix it for free.

good luck either way.
