That looks like the color of (forget the name) of the guy whom just finished one. I thought t was cool, but he did the flaps and tail in grey.

I have one in  my stash and was thinking all grey, but I really liked the amber or whatever he called it.

Yeah I think I'm going with #3, not much fun in many of the PH Vals, save this one:

not sure I'm up for that.

Ohhh, I really like that one, I may be up for that challenge! I was thinking grey scheme as well, however for the GB if you are doing grey, I may go green.  I'm still up in the air with what I want to do as of now. Here is my progress on my Val.

Forgot to ask you Trey. Do you prime before applying the NMF?

Bsyamato: Hey, nice collection there! I like how you do everything, aircraft, figures, ships, etc. I pretty much only do planes and tanks.

Reasoned: They all look pretty cool. Guess I am partial to Equsa's bomber but Ikeda's plane would be my second choice.

David: Really nice work there, she looks perfect in the bare primer.

Trey: Super job as always, the NM finish looks absolutely flawless.

Eric no I do'nt usually pime unless its a major blem or seam, none on this one at all.

Cliff thanks!

Connor applied the salt and away we went, the effect is a little more aggressive than usual but we're rolling with it. I'm geussing it was due to me not using Kosher salt this time. The sea salt crystals are much finer.

Looking good, with all the chipping I think that Jap pilot might ask for his money back on the paint job!

Looks great Trey Yes.

After working on cutting the canopy masks tonight, my Val just about reenacted a kamakazi attack on the basement wall! Super Angry

Reasoned: ACK! Glad you said almost. I hate masking canopies most of all. I think the pre-cut masks are insanely over-priced but I hate to cut my own so much I'm willing to cough up the cash for them if Eduard makes one that fits the model.

BTW: I hope your wife has recovered and is feeling better.

Alright - it's not much, but I'm officially underway on the George. Interior green is a FICE (F- It, Close Enough) mix matched to images of N1K1 cockpits using the old eyeball. Tamiya Flat Green + Olive Green + Cockpit Green.

Elsewhere, the IP got its gauge decal last night, and a dose of Solvaset this morning.

Not as fast as Trey's tearing through his floaty version, but hey, progress!

Trey- She's looking good, I like the effect.

DoogsATX- Looks like a great start.

Reasoned - Don't make my Val a lone wolf, I need a wingman here in this!

So I've got most of the underside assembly done, aside from the payload.  Next will be some more cockpit pieces once they're dry and then I think I can start painting.  I just received the paints in the mail so I should be good to go!

Gamera: Thanks, she is doing much better, still a little sore but much better, makes a big difference when it's 70 degrees and mid March to boot!  Hey, if someone plopped a mask @ $15 in front of me now I'd be tempted................. eh, that's the easy way out. Stick out tongue

Doogs: Seems like there are all sorts of interpretations of the Jap interior green, some call it "bamboo green", I guess because it has a little yellowish-khaki look to it.  In fact, seems like there is a lot more unkowns of Jap int/ext colors, not sure if it's because there were few if any examples left from war of both planes..... and crew!

bsyamato: Interesting video, check out how the pilots were almost standing during take off!  Was this propaganda vid or what?

Maddog: Nah, I got too much time invested in this thing to wing it............. yet. Wink  Your's is looking great, I'm about at the same spot.

Good updates Maddog Yes how about the painting of engine already glued Surprise

Reasoned, honeslly dunno so much about the video, but seems from some propaganda of the time. Just found during watching video from my phone surfing. The quality is really fine for the period and some jill detail stealing is possible Stick out tongue

Cliff i'm oriented to start with the jill/tenzan when kits arrives Toast prediction is about 10-15 days but i expect more Hmm

Doogs: Looks good to me, I'm not sure off the top of my head what colour Kawanishi interior green was but what you've got looks close to me.

David: Nice clean job there, looks like you're ready to start slappin' paint!

Reasoned: Glad to hear your wife is better, hope you don't get in trouble with the cascade of four letter words coming out of you during the canopy masking.

Guys, Vincent Price asked me a couple of questions about posting photos. I told him I'm using Photobucket, if anyone would like to recommend any other site please do so. And if anyone has a link to the instructions on posting photos could you post it here, I'm afraid if I try to describe how I'll end up confusing him more than he already is,

Thanks! Two things - first, the color balance on the iPhone is a bit off. Second, the color I found looked to me something like a yellower shade of Dull Dark Green, or maybe a halfway between that and Interior Green. If that makes sense.

As for posting photos - I wrote a blog post that should set Vincent up: http://doogsmodels.com/2011/01/27/how-to-post-your-photos/

It covers both Photobucket and Flickr, but the principles apply pretty universally.

Doogs:

I'm not totally sure if the paint Japanese companies didn't vary a little toward more yellow or blue and how dark they were. What you've got there looks right to me even if a little off in the photo.

And thanks for the link, that seems exactly what he's looking for. Yes

I use Fickr, so it has to easy. Smile

Back to that video, I think of all the different aviators during WWII: fighters, strat bombers, recon, etc... naval torpedo (and to some extent dive bombers) had to be the most dangerous, what with all those guns blasting at you, fighter cover coming down on you and flying low and slow with a ton of high explosives under you........... ain't no flippin way.Indifferent

Hi everyone,

With work going crazy and all, I finally managed to get started on the Kawanishi Kyofu. Next step closing the fuselage.

I hope the pictures will be alright, this a testcase since I'm no computerwizard at all. Great many thanks to Gamera and Doogs for helping me out in this department Toast
