Good eye trouble, that was painted on the fairing since the decals were for another plane, plus I think it's easier than getting decals to set on curvey stuff IMHO.

FINALLY, done with the model from Censored!  Eh, it wasn't that bad really, this is in fact a VERY good kit in the hands of a skilled builder..... which I'm not but here is the 1/48 Hasegawa Aichi D3A1 "Val"

NICE!!  The Val is my favorite Hasegawa kit..have two built and a couple in the stash. You did a great job on yours, and the Zero too. Did you use the decal for the Val`s gear fairings? I tried but had to paint mine after not being able to get the decals to lay down properly.

Reasoned - "not a skilled builder" ?  You could have fooled me. Those are awesome!   Damn good job on both.

My Ki46-III has sat impatiently waiting for the first spraying for close to a month now as I work on other projects.  And so many awesome builds have been completed.

Thanks guys.  Eric, yes I also used a "custom" color mix of IJN grey and a little khaki in it to give it a yellowish-greenish hue.  Mine is probably a little more matte than it should be (helps to hide the sinsWink).  As far as weathering, I remember your plane had a very realistic exhaust stain under her, as well as a glossy finish.  In my reading, they say the PH Vals (as well as many of the Jap a/c had little weathering since these kicked off the war for US at least.  However, they had to have some wear just from flight ops.

I like it a lot Reasoned. What solution did you use for the Great Early War Zero Color Problem? Resembles my witches brew more than a little. The only thing I see we did different was that I gave the plane a little glossier finish. What wasn't clear to me was whether the glare deflector had been waxed: intuition might argue matte whereas I left it satin. Millman said that the Val color was quite close to the Zero in hue - just a little lower on the grey scale. But the green is supposed to be very subtle - which yours is. (I still think there'd be a bucket of exhaust stains near that engine, but every plane was new once.) You've got those decals down nice and proper: you spray the national insignia? I think my decals had white circles which was probably right when using a green color scheme. (Although I guess the IJNAF loonies argue about that too.) A very clean build and certainly looks like proper early war garb.

well, wings ended wrong on first attempt so i break it again and redo

After i drilled some hole into underwing and glued plastic rods to give more strengt to the wings structure (the gluing surface was few after i cut the flaps) and closed the flaps zones with evergreens pieces

and starting to put details in

EDIT

Finished to detail this area, now need some cut and adjust Dead

Thanks Bud! Like I said I started off in the other GB and all the pics of the cockpit are over there. I wired the IP and did some other "plumbing"..I`ll try and post a couple later. All of a sudden, I lost interest in this build and let it sit for months. Got the urge to finish her up now...too many started kits and not enough getting finished. As for my Son..thanks..and,I can`t wait till he feels better because...I`ll be able to get some sleep when he does!

Sure...send it on out...might take awhile to get it back to you....I still can`t feel my fingers....lol

I did all that masking with Tamiya tape. I never had much luck with mask sets and seems easier just to cut my own. My hands and fingers really did go numb on me several times while cutting them out. My computer seems to be cooperating at the moment so here`s some pics of the Betty I`ve been working on. Started it for the "Way Too Many Props" GB but also works well here....

...Made sun shades from rolled up tissue paper, painted XF-71 Cockpit Green...

 ...Nose section...

...dorsal gun position (gun is in stowed position)

...side gun blister...

Thanks for looking!

I still don't understand GB procedures here. Why is this message here  "RE: Japanese GB" and the one above "RE: George Progress"? I thought I was putting my Val pics into the Japanese GB which I thought was an ok place for them: guess they're in with the George. I'm getting too old if I can't figure out a mailing list.

Eric-  You can change the subject line whenever you post inside a thread. I guess you do it if you want to really call attention to your post. It does get confusing because if a bunch of people change what`s in the subject linefrom the initial thread title, I know I begin to lose track of where the heck I am...lol.

If I was going to look for a cheap P-47, I'd think Arii Razorback. They're in print, cheap, have recessed panel lines and are a clean build. (I've found out that the Arii/Otaki Japanese aircraft kits must be older: they've got raised lines, lots of rivets etc. I know the old school has its fans, I'm just not one of them.) Hyperscale gives the Arii 47 good grades for shape. I used it for weathering experiment. Would be just the ticket for the first metal finish. But if you're only going to have one kit of a major plane, saving $15 is a false economy. I've got the Tamiya 47M (can be a D) and it's a lovely kit. I was on the look-out for a Tamiya razorback, but got torpedoed at GreatModels and filled my Japanese stash with Hasegawas. So we'll have to wait for a few months for appearances. Need a Razorback and a Stuka and I think that's it for a decade. (Although the Lionroar Devestator looks interesting.)

 Reasoned:

IMO, no. The only Jugs I'd buy in 1/48 (excluding -Ns, where the choices are different) are the Revellograms and the Tamiyas.

Revellogram = cheap, good shape, builds up well. Cockpit's a bit wanting but not Lindberg-bad by any means.

Tamiya = excellent detail, brilliant engineering and probably one of the best 1/48 kits ever produced.

The way I see it, the Academy and Hasegawa kits dance in between, but it's kind of a pointless middle ground. Why spend $20 on the Academy when you can get the solid Revellogram for like $10-12, or the amazing Tamiya for $25-30?

Great, thanks for the recommendations, figured if there was anyone who knew Jugs, it'd be you.Wink

Len,

As Doogs said it might be a hardware issue. Though if you've been using the computer for six years it's hard to tell. Sometimes when you install and delete software it doesn't 100% remove itself and you end up with old stuff hanging around that sometimes conflicts.

If everything isn't already backed up on the external drive I'd do so, maybe burn it to some DVD/CDs just to be on the safe side and then take it by your local computer shop. They might be able to fix it. Or if it's a software issue just reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows can make a big difference. By doing so you're removing all that debris that has built up over the last six years.

As said it's hard to tell sometimes, I was grumping on another thread about a year and half ago about my machine just randomly rebooting constantly. Turned out there was a defect in the power supply that caused it to randomly short out. Two computer shops couldn't find it. Replacing it fixed the problem completly.

Good luck!

Bsyamato: Yikes! I didn't know you were going to have to do that much work. You're doing some surgery on that model!

DoogsATX

Len - how old is your computer? Granted, I'm on a Mac, but I had a similar problem with mine a few months back. It'd work, then just die. Turned out it was a bad logic board that had to be replaced.

It`s a Dell Inspiron E-1705 laptop and it`s pretty old in computer years...2004. I finally filled the hard drive and started having memory issues. I bought a Seagate 1 terrabyte external drive ,backed up my entire machine then dumped about 60 or so GB of pics, vids , etc. It came with 120GB HD. After that , I downloaded World of Tanks but it didn`t work...machine is too slow I guess, so I got rid of that. That`s when the "blue screen of death" started. I tried a sys recovery but still crashed after. I have a hard time buying new stuff when the old stuff is still working..lol. My F-150 is 14 years old for cryin` out loud! A couple times while trying to boot from safe mode it didn`t recognize the hard drive, which might be whats going bad..(?).

At one time, I had 5 Dell laptops...me, wife and all 3 teenagers..figured that way, no fighting for internet time and homework, etc. Mine is the oldest and the only one still working..well, till now. The error message said to disable/remove any new h/w..s/w. The external drive had a program that auto ran to back up my computer files but don`t see anything in my program files for Seagate...maybe that caused the problem? Must`ve been removed when I did the system restore...I guess.

That`s the whole story. I know I should prolly buy a new machine but don`t have the $ at the moment...hopefully we can figure it out...Big Smile

Thanks Guys!

I`m having major computer trouble. I`ve been trying to post pics of a Betty bomber but my laptop keeps crashing to a blue screen...something about a Kernal page error????  I`ve disabled or removed anything new hardware/software...very frustrating...works perfectly one minute and not the next. It lets me on once and awhile but if I try to plug in my camera ...crash! If anyone knows how to fix this problem please contact me "back channel", I`d be in your debt.

TIA,

Len

Len imho if you have data files saved on another hard disk partition (i suppose you use windows, blue screen avaible only there Surprise ) just insert the operative system disk and format the C partition, best way to resolve things but for safe things ask some near friend that can personally help you.

Afternoon assembly

without surgery this is the kit wings fitting, wrong way, the central section of the wing must be perfect horizontal

the surgery cuts

and after lots of cuts and sanding (removed about a mm or more on each fuselage/wings contact surfaces)

heres the result

when glue is completely cured will operate to fix wings at good angle and fill with plastic stripes instead of putty:

the good point of this kit is the easy workable plastic used

Going on the tail surfaces: i drilled the joint surfaces, the kit not have joint pins

lots of tamiya glue and fixing at the good angle; this will help for correct position of main wings Yes

and the mary being to get final shapes Stick out tongue

PS the upper wings surfaces are glued only from the front and wings tip zones so they can be fixed easily in the correct position.

Len,

All I can tell you is to try to isolate the problem. Does it only crash when the camera is plugged in? Did you try your camera with another computer, say one at work or a friends?

When my camera went bad I couldn't figure out what was going on but found the computer is fine  and the camera was bad. Though from what you describe it sure sounds like the computer is the problem.
