Thanks!!! I had a last minute adjustment to make on the foward fuselage, where the tan section is. The whole foward section was 2 greens, and I thought a big tan bit will break it up nicely. Out came the blu-tack and masking tape!!!

its easy enough  to make a refuelling probe using a thick and a thin piece of sprue

cut the thick piece down the middle lengthways (watch them fingers lol) then get a round file and make a recess (cant spell it!!) then put the smaller piece in it like this

ps iv got 2 48 twin builds in my head for the tsr2 1 is a vietnam early mk tsr2/f111 and tother is a 90s late mark aussie 111/tsr2 combo

I finished my helldiver around a month ago. I haven't had time too upload pics because photobucket hasn't been working. As soon as I can get photobucket working the finished pics of my helldiver will be up.

O.K. finally cracked the box on my big Stuka. Looking through the sprues shows that this definitely must be an older kit for sure. Rough for sure with a lot of warping and flash etc. No biggie, better get out the sanding sticks and putty! Also, the massive sprues were all bagged up in one large plastic bag. When I opened up this bag there were a very large group of loose parts both big and very small... Jeeezzz this should be fun! Also, as I began building, the parts are scattered all over different sprues and the numbering sequence is non-existent. Any given sprue have numbers ranging from 1 to 300ish with no order whatsoever so I spend a lot of time searching sprues!! I promise I'm not complaining as the kit is building fairly well. I'm just not used to this level of disorganization especially with such a big kit. Anyway, the initial pics.

Hey Chopper, my Airfix 1/24 Harrier kit is exactly the same. Bit's everywhere, non-sequential and flash to boot!

Finally got back to work on the 25 pounder.

Finished assembly, and decals.  I made my own decals for 4 RCA ( Royal Canadian Artillery), based on the books by George Blackburn who chronicled their involvement in WW2.  Probably should have used the white background decals instead of transparent.

I was going to set it on a 4x6 base, but I'm starting to think that my be a bit small if I'm going to include the gun, limber and quad.  I haven't even added the gun det yet.

Might upgrade to a 5x7 base.

Still need to weather everything, and do the scenery for the base.

I've been reading Mark Zuehlke's books on Canada's contributions to the war effort--right now On to Victory, concerning the liberation of the Netherlands.  Brave men and magnificent deeds.  Canada can be proud.

I'm behind in posting pictures of Airfix's 1/72 Gloster Gladiator progress.

Here's what the parts look like on the sprue.  Sort of sad; mismatched molds so the top and bottom of each wing don't line up, nor does the fuselage engraving.

Engine cowling is pretty sad too.  Not only is there that huge mold seam in the middle, but the little fillets that encircle the cowl are also mismatched.  I plan to sand the whole thing smooth and replace the fillets (or whatever they are) with some bits cut from plastic sheet.

Got the pieces cleaned up and stuck to tape, ready for painting.

Then assembled the fuselage and added the bottom wing.

There was a pilot's head and shoulders molded into the cockpit.  I cut that out, and painted it black.  Nothing much is going to show through the canopy anyway.

Masked the canopy.  When it's attached, I'll start painting.

Despite the little problems, this acutally shaping up to be a nice, charming little kit, and fun to build.

Thats a very old kit compared with the two new tooling airfix kits I got yesterday for $8 each!

Airfix 1:72 Curtiss hawk 81-A-2, &, Airfix 1:72 A6M2b Zero.

Both have recessed panel lines, seperate pieced flaps, better canopies, and the most shocking thing of all is having very decent cockpit detail as well as in the wheel wells.

Are these airfix kits?! Or are these just stolen molds?

Yes, it's an ancient kit--from 1956, I think.  There was a group build going on a while ago at either Airfix Tribute Forum or britmodeler (I forget which), and they had some nice results with this kit.  Actually it's not building up too bad.  I think the worst thing I've noticed is a misshapen engine cowling.

I've been looking over the Curtiss Hawk.  I'd like to build some Flying Tigers at some point.  FSM the magazine noted a recent release of a decal sheet for them.

And back to the Gladiator.  I have the undersurfaces painted and the first color on the upper surfaces.

Undersurfaces are "Eau de Nil," from a profile I found on the web.  Instructions show "light earth" on the lower fuselage sides and bottom wing, camouflaged with "light green."  I didn't even know the RAF had those colours until this project. 

The upper wing and top of the fuselage is camouflaged with "dark earth" and "dark green."  All the paint is WEM Colourcoats.  Very nice stuff.

seems that this time the matchbox kit is better, build one in early 90 and don't remember particular problems

Thanks.  It's coming along without any great fit problems.  Many mold seams and some flash, and the scribing and engraving doesn't line up very well.  On the bottom of the fuselage, the port and starboard scribe lines completely miss each other.  I decided not to fix that, since even rescribing would not make the line perpendicular to the centerline of the fuselage.

I think overall it will look fine, but the details are kind of "off."

I heard that Revell Germany makes a Gladiator, too, that is better.  I wonder if that is the old Matchbox release?

I masked over the "light earth" colors now, and painted the dark earth.

When the paint has cured, I'll mask over both "earth" colors, and begin applying the greens.

Plrobably the revell reboxed the matchbox, they have also other old matchbox in the catalog, for sure the he-70, the victor and the twin otter.

this is my ancient gladiator, 

i added some piece but the kit was one of better matchbox i never built.

waiting more space on the workbench for more of my progress about scout and mig-23

bsyamato:  very nice Gladiator.  Good looking finsh, and silver isn't an easy thing to do.

I'm waiting on some bronze paint I had to order for the collector ring around the engine cowling.  It's about the last thing to do, then I thought I'd attempt the rigging, using stretched sprue.

Alright, back into action for me on the Airfix front!

1. I've got some new liquid decal film to try on those cranky decals for my Mirage F1. Crossing my fingers, I may try them again tonight. If that doesn't work I'll have to go overseas for replacements.
2. I've started work on the Heinkel 177. The glide-bombs are mostly together and I've started on the wings & control surfaces. I'm hoping I can take care of the twist to the fuselage halves by gluing from front to back, re-aligning as I go. I won't spend much time on the cockpit as the glass is, well, "Air-fix-y". The shapes are actually good, but not so clear.
