The toy-like control surfaces was a bad airfix attitude finally he stopped to do, out of my "doun't touch the sm-79 airfix box" i see similar things on the sunderland and stirling, unfortunately these last two are the "only" kits avaible for it

In mind to fix these gaps?

I hadn't planned to... but now you have me thinking about it!!  The moveable surfaces would just need to be trimmed out, & the trailing edge of the wings would need to be hollowed out a little bit. The ailerons seem to be a little too long anyway, I may look at it before I get any further into construction.

A little sanding to do and the basic assembly will be done.

Now just to find the energy to do it.............

I should be carefull what I say on this forum, it seems I am the lucky winner of a flu today and can't go spray the RV-4 I am working on. S0 I will have to work on the Spitty then ;-)

Just a pitty I left my airbrush's airhose at work, can you believe it

Fuselage almost complete. There were some very nasty gaps whee the intakes join to the fuselage. Lots of Tamiya putty this week!

I'm pretty sparing on the filler. The stuff is *&#&^*$ to get off when applied sloppily. I mask all putty with tape to keep it clean.

Despite her size, she's only about an inch longer than the fuselage for my upcoming F4-D in 1/32

I did some pre-shading on my Spitfire. It's way too heavy but I've never done it before, and never really airbrushed before either.

Slowly getting towards painting. Canopy finally attached (the brass sure looks nice but is a total PITA to install on canopy plastic!!!!), cockpit masked off. Just some more greeblies to fit, also completed the vortex generator replacement in brass on the wings.

Wee bit heavy handed on the preshading, but for your first time it looks ok (ive never really done it on models before, done some on paper way back in the past though)

Heavy handed isnt necessarily a bad thing though, just weather heavy at the end of it and itle look great 

Thanks Mikey. Some of the members have given me some pointers in another thread (thinner paint, closer AB, etc.. and I have a fine detail tip for my Aztek that I can try. I don't think it's worth re-primer and re-doing but it's some experience for my next kit.

This bird is such a marathon to paint. Two hours and I've got the top done and half of the underside. I can't believe I ran out of paint, used up one and a half of Mr.Colour H333. Time to pay a trip to the LHS tomorrow.

OMGZ, this thing IS a monster! I have finished the painting, touched up with a good brush on the areas where it was hard to get in with the air brush. Nose and tan/black masking's done. Next a gloss coat in prep for the decals.

HA, im not the only one that does it. i see  tubs of dirty scummy paint water. My problem is when the water evaporates and the pigment left on he inside of the tub.

That harrier is a friggin monster. Shes looking fantastic though.

That's one of the benefits of not having a permanent bench - you have to clean up the paint pots.

I managed to get a little work done on my 1/72 Mk2a.

Did some pre-shading.The3 pannels are actually so deep it really doesn't need it, but I wanted to stay in practice.

The Sky tipe-S underside is also on and shows the shading nicely.

Thanx, but I must say I found it rather difficult do do as I havn't even touched an airbrush for over a month.Well no actually that is not entirely acurate, does my spraygun I use to paint full size planes count? LOL!

No pre-shading on the big ones though!

I have found the shading a little easier to do with Tamiya acrylics than with enamels, the acrylic for some or other reason sprays lighter and finer. Could just be my airbrush not being fine enough.....

Hmm, preshading on a full size aircaft? Could result in an interesting effect.

Fuuny you shouls say that. On the RV-4 I am busy with now, I need to "pre coat" all the rivet and lapjoint lines with a couple of light coats to get a nice even tone, so before I paint the entire thing it actually looks exactly like a model with pre-shading. I should have taken a pic of it LOL!

Entering the home stretch on this build. Got the decaling done and started to attach the greeblies. A lot of those on this bird. I have almost finished the exhaust nozzles. Got the rear exhaust plates to Alclad in magnesium, I have painted the AIMs white and then they will get a gun metal tip. Then it will be time for weathering and shading.

Total failure on my pre-shading with the top cammo covering it all up, darn!

Need to clean up the cammo line ridges and so some weathering.

It seems Humbrol got the right tone of "green" with this batch of #30 Dark green. The last time I got some it looked way to blue.

Not sure if Alright, it's been so long since I updated anything I figured I'd better check in here before you all forget about me! (Loving that Harrier Casper!)

Not sure if I'd shown the interior closed up or not - only added seatbelts as not much will be "clearly" visible... (just dry-fitted at this point)

I may still add a little wiring to the front of the control column

First time using brass rod to strengthen a wing-fuselage joint. The strength was tested later that night as a cat knocked the glued assembly from the table to a chair - 12" drop & no damage...

And here she is as of last night. I did need to use some styrene sheet shims, slight gap in the wing-fuselage join, and with all that raised detail, I didn't want to use much putty. The joints between the two fuselage halves got a little putty as well to deal with a "step" - seems consistent from top to bottom, front to back, so I have to assume "pilot error" on that one! Puttied, sanded, scribed those areas. She's got primer on the wings & rear fuselage, need to touch up the wing joints & then prime that area too.

AIMs turned out well. I'm getting better at airbrushing gloss white but it's still a PITA! Did the tips in magnesium, makes a nice contrast. Next decaling for them;

Ahh, the putty, THE PUTTY.... is still in the tube?!?!?!

I had a gap of no more than 1mm at the widest at the wing joins, making me consider just filling it with white glue. I went ahead & taped off the raised details around the joint & jammed some Tamiya putty in there, gave it a quick swipe with a sanding stick & here we are...

Done and dusted!

The paints on the Spitty are Humbrol #30/29 uppers and #90 bottom. Some gun and exhaust stains with pastels and the oil "streaming" form the cowl was painted on.

The kit gives a surprizing amount of stencling and the decals went on very nicely with some Tamiya Mark. All were sealed with Tamiya Clear.

I need to trim the piece of ariel closer to the mast, my peepers seem to be going downhill fast now!
