Airfix Group Build 2011-2012

oh thank you! haven't done any work in the past few days, been to busy with school and things around the house.

I "Futured" mine today. Decals and weathering to follow, then dull-coat and she's done.

Crap - I just realized that the deadline is at the start of September - I'd been going on the assumption that it was an end-of-September deadline. I'm so sorry guys. Chalk it up to dumb-rookie mistake. 

I'll be done by the end of September. I'm so sorry, I don't want to be the weak link.

Not a problem grif. There are alot of people who i havent seen in here since they signed up lol.

I figured I would get a picture of the sub-assemblies.  It's taken a while, I'm still waiting for some paints to come in for the cockpit.

This is the first model in 30 years.

I'll order some white gloss tomorrow in that case, can't be to hard to dust of the old Concorde and get her sprayed up

That's to be a P-47D, and the post belonged in the Jugs GB.  I think this thread was right above the Jugs thread.

Decals!

I plan to do finish assembly, do another coat of Future, weather and then dull-coat. Should be done soon.

No roundels under the wings?

Is the rondel the big circle?

I put the decals just as shown and I used all of them.

Underwing roundels can be a confusing topic.  It seems they were used prior to Dunkirk, into June 1940 when the undersides were black (Night) and white; then when the change was made to Sky undersurfaces, they were left off, late June and July, 1940.  Then they made a comeback in late August 1940.

Griff:  I think you are "safe" with what you did.  And it's a very sharp looking build.  Looks like the new mold Airfix Spitfire.

It is confusing, Mikey.  I went through this with the Spitfire GB.  The underwings look kind of blank and plain and bland without them.  

Usually, I just go by what the Osprey books say; or check for pics and profiles on the web; and if that doesn't work, I just follow the kit directions.

Wow this group build is winding down?!

I have to admit I have enjoyed the work, craftsmanship and great amounts of how to ( or not to) information. That I have gleened from this epic.

This is  my first group build and though I went on after my inital build, to other self imposed projects, I was always looking in to see "whats up".

Mikey, congratulations on carring on and keeping the progress moving forward.

I should be spraying the Concorde this weekend. I haven't got round to it yet as I just started my A-Level's, so things have been a bit hectic recently. But now I've got the paint in and the all decals, so I'm all ready to go .

I just have final assembly, weathering and dull-coat.

Just going through the entrants list. There are people on that list i havent seen around in quite a wee while. Not just in here, but the forums in general.

I am still lurking around, but struggling to find time for modelling, and that spitfire is fighting me all the way, went through three sets of decals before I got a complete set to stick and now I am having canopy issues. I still hope to get it done in the next 10 days.

The B&V is sitting waiting for some paint and the god awful task of trying to mask the canopy, meanwhile I have also been working on a BF110 in 1:72 scale which has been quite delightful in comparison. That may see the light of day before month end also.

I have enjoyed the Airfix Group build and enjoyed following the posts here, even if they highlight how woefully far behind I am in build quality.

Kia Kaha Scorpiomikey you have done a great job with this group build.

Cheers man. Airfix kits have always been sub par up untill a few years ago. This GB has highlighted this. I think Airfix kits are great as learner kits, because if you can make one look good. Your on the way to being a good modeller.
