Yea, I will have to try and post shade with pastels. My airbrush skills are not good enough for post shading

Total failure on my pre-shading with the top cammo covering it all up, darn!

The same thing happened with my bottom colour.

Need to clean up the cammo line ridges and so some weathering.

Airfix 1/72 Spit Mk2a

It seems Humbrol got the right tone of "green" with this batch of #30 Dark green. The last time I got some it looked way to blue.

Entering the home stretch on this build. Got the decaling done and started to attach the greeblies. A lot of those on this bird. I have almost finished the exhaust nozzles. Got the rear exhaust plates to Alclad in magnesium, I have painted the AIMs white and then they will get a gun metal tip. Then it will be time for weathering and shading.

Cheers

Fuuny you shouls say that. On the RV-4 I am busy with now, I need to "pre coat" all the rivet and lapjoint lines with a couple of light coats to get a nice even tone, so before I paint the entire thing it actually looks exactly like a model with pre-shading. I should have taken a pic of it LOL!

Hmm, preshading on a full size aircaft? Could result in an interesting effect.

Thanx, but I must say I found it rather difficult do do as I havn't even touched an airbrush for over a month.Well no actually that is not entirely acurate, does my spraygun I use to paint full size planes count? LOL!

No pre-shading on the big ones though!

I have found the shading a little easier to do with Tamiya acrylics than with enamels, the acrylic for some or other reason sprays lighter and finer. Could just be my airbrush not being fine enough.....

Awesome - your pre-shading is WAY better than mine. Yes

Hi all.

I managed to get a little work done on my 1/72 Mk2a.

Did some pre-shading.The3 pannels are actually so deep it really doesn't need it, but I wanted to stay in practice.

Airfix 1/72 Spit Mk2a

The Sky tipe-S underside is also on and shows the shading nicely.

That's one of the benefits of not having a permanent bench - you have to clean up the paint pots.

Nice work on the Harrier, Casper.

HA, im not the only one that does it. i see  tubs of dirty scummy paint water. My problem is when the water evaporates and the pigment left on he inside of the tub.

That harrier is a friggin monster. Shes looking fantastic though.

OMGZ, this thing IS a monster! Devil I have finished the painting, touched up with a good brush on the areas where it was hard to get in with the air brush. Nose and tan/black masking's done. Next a gloss coat in prep for the decals.

Cheers

This bird is such a marathon to paint. Two hours and I've got the top done and half of the underside. I can't believe I ran out of paint, used up one and a half of Mr.Colour H333. Time to pay a trip to the LHS tomorrow.

Cheers

Thanks Mikey. Some of the members have given me some pointers in another thread (thinner paint, closer AB, etc.. and I have a fine detail tip for my Aztek that I can try. I don't think it's worth re-primer and re-doing but it's some experience for my next kit. Wink

Wee bit heavy handed on the preshading, but for your first time it looks ok (ive never really done it on models before, done some on paper way back in the past though)

Heavy handed isnt necessarily a bad thing though, just weather heavy at the end of it and itle look great

Slowly getting towards painting. Canopy finally attached (the brass sure looks nice but is a total PITA to install on canopy plastic!!!!), cockpit masked off. Just some more greeblies to fit, also completed the vortex generator replacement in brass on the wings.

Cheers

I did some pre-shading on my Spitfire. It's way too heavy but I've never done it before, and never really airbrushed before either.

There's a post about my first time here: /forums/t/146193.aspx

Scorpiomikey

My god that thing is enormous.

ow many tubes of filler has she gobbles up so far?

I'm pretty sparing on the filler. The stuff is *&#&^*$ to get off when applied sloppily. I mask all putty with tape to keep it clean.

Despite her size, she's only about an inch longer than the fuselage for my upcoming F4-D in 1/32

Cheers

Fuselage almost complete. There were some very nasty gaps whee the intakes join to the fuselage. Lots of Tamiya putty this week!

I should be carefull what I say on this forum, it seems I am the lucky winner of a flu today and can't go spray the RV-4 I am working on. S0 I will have to work on the Spitty then ;-)

Just a pitty I left my airbrush's airhose at work, can you believe itBang Head

Ah well, lots of sanding and prep work to do anyway.

...

The toy-like control surfaces was a bad airfix attitude Big Smile finally he stopped to do, out of my "doun't touch the sm-79 airfix box" i see similar things on the sunderland and stirling, unfortunately these last two are the "only" kits avaible for it Surprise

In mind to fix these gaps?

I hadn't planned to... but now you have me thinking about it!! Hmm The moveable surfaces would just need to be trimmed out, & the trailing edge of the wings would need to be hollowed out a little bit. The ailerons seem to be a little too long anyway, I may look at it before I get any further into construction.

DUSTER

Don't give up bsyamato;

I'm sure all your problems are caused by....uh, sunspots!  yeah, thats it! ... sunspots http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u294/PropDuster_album/Smileees/getsmileyCAGO35YW.gif

I domn't give up LOL too much work did on this little helo Toast

More than sun i think was the 99,9 % humidity Hmm

VanceCrozier

The fit has actually been much better than I expected considering how old the kit is. A little toy-like in places though: all of the control surfaces are positionable (which makes some large gaps!), the upper turrets are meant to turn as well, though they have a better fit.

yes she is Cool !! good work Vance Toast in few time you surpassed my grief progress LOL

Maybe I have made more progress, but I haven't added the details I know you have on yours. I am pretty much seeing how cleanly I can build this one oob.

So the two humbrol paint lines don't mix well at all?? Glad to see you have recovered & replaced it already.

Yes i added some too extra piece and for the same reason the fuselage (withouth wings) is actually a dust keeper Hmm i hope to back it on the bench less than two year ... LOL

For the humbrol mistake, i'm used to mix the glossy that came in the same paint jar (35) but lately received the new big gloss bottle... with this one, the normal enamels don't mix!! after i leave it cures the green being to disgregate from the clear and formed lots of tiny green points Big Smile on last mix i used the old 35 and works correctly!

Nice to ear the airfix 177 fitting was good Yes
