I actually have pix of the SAAF that had a "pet" full grown Lion at one of the bases! So it might not be so far fetched LOL!

As for the National markings, when we were "playing" in Angolan airspace they were regularly ommited, not like there was actually anyone else it could be if they were shot down

I will be starting a 1/72 new tool Airfix BF 110 for the Africa GB, so it might just pop up here aswell.........just to show I can actually bash some plastic LOL!

Looks like the Italeri Hs129 B-3 has some better details on the engines and the gear doors for sure. I read about the stripes on the wing for the pilot to better line up the plane and was going to mask some off, but whats the white dash on the fin? Nice weathering too BTW. What grade octane is in that triangle I have some spares. The orig decals dont look too good so im improving from a great sheet of 190's that i just picked up. Wish some of the spiral decals I have would work but these spinners are small. This plane is really... Must've been a heck of a ride, good thing they say it was underpowered (and horrible in the desert enviorn apparently). For a twin engine bird this thing is little.

It's normally than the italeri is better than the old airfix , i picked it few time after the kit was published about 95-96 and finished in same period.

The kit had the option to another one with props spirals but i avoid these subjects when is possible i had lots of problems with spirals on a me-410 (another aircraft with a big gun on the nose) and after some test i just painted with a freehand brush lots of patience needed. 

If i remember Vance had posted something about a masked propeller cover. Decals are not good to reproduce (recently i tried on my revell greif, after some attempt i just trow away spiral decals.... ).

Will try next time to paint the propeller cobers in white and after put a stripe of tape around it, probably will work .. at least i hope

the white on the fins are just the serial number i think . If you need some close view for the gun just tell about, this 129 is still alive

You are right bsyamato...

For this one I didn't use the decal spiral. I painted the propellor hub white, then used a narrow strip of masking tape, starting at the muzzle opening at the front & pulled it around & around until I had my entire spiral in place. Then I airbrushed the black-green. You can see one little spot where it wiggled out of place a little bit, but it did the job quite well. Next time I think I would use a quick spray of dullcoat etc. to seal the tape up better before applying the final colour.

Well if I can join this one I will be doing a 1/72 scale FAA Corsair.

nice Vance, i will try to use (on the greif) if i had again electrical insulator tape, probably i have someone in the basement. Instead of normal tapes is easier to bend.

electrical tape could probably be pulled around the curves better, I'll have to try it next time.

Update on the Mirage...

underside gray (ModelMaster enamels) already on & dry; masked off & upper tan sprayed on (Humbrol enamels).

Instruction sheet scanned & scaled up for masking the camo,

Masking tape in place,

Green applied (Tamiya acrylic after 4-5 days of allowing the enamels to cure), masking tape removed. I see a few spots that will need to be touched up before weathering & clear-coats, but the tape job worked pretty well. Using the acrylics & misting them on slowly probably helped avoid paint bleeding under the tape as well.

Next up in the paintshop - black nosecone, white markings on the tail, metallics on the exhaust can.

Vance thanks for showing us your process. Having it all laid out flat like that, thats the sort of obsessive thing that makes me feel better!

HA - obsessive?!?! Yes, probably! That's likely what slows me down so often - I don't dare start something unless I'm convinced it'll work. Laying it out flat - I figured the easiest way for me to get this pattern was to get the upper surfaces masked properly first, then kind of fill in the areas along the sides. Glad you like it!

I've been wondering how to lay out the camouflage masks for the Gladiator I committed to for this build.  I think I'll be appropriating your method.  Thanks.

Thanks checkmateking - and appropriate away! I used some of that Frog tape this time - by the time I laid it down on the cutting mat, peeled & applied I had a few small spots that began lifting. I might try it with something a little tackier next time, but overall I was happy with the results.

Vance this is what i call BIG patience about painting  

the f-1 come great !! and the shapes of this plane convinced me even more  

Now that it is getting some colour on, the shape is really growing on me as well. It certainly looks different than anything else I have in the collection.

Hard to say but the box says - 1:72 Vought F4U Corsair [FAA] with a corsair in british markings on the front, but mine is going to be in USN markings, but I don't have any in the spares box, and I have already painted it.

Only in 48 scale unfortunatly. I do have some early USAAF P-51A decals though, star in a circle with yellow trim.

How long are they? From one band to the other?

The corsair is a fairly big aircraft even for 1:72, they may fit?

Dimensions - length - 138mm. wingspan - 173mm.

When i say 48 scale, i mean theyre actually 48 scale corsair decals. got them for my f4u-4 for the korean war GB.

Ill have a hunt around tonight, might have something.

Repairing the wscout canopy disaster :

Used 4 pieces of balsa for the mould

refined with putty

and after loooots of try with clear plastic sheets the good one 

ok not perfect but sure better than the original

after lots of cuts and designed the frames with a blade, i fixed the rear with CA glue

that's all

This is the current stage in which my corsair sits. I attempted my first navy plane in a tri-colour scheme.

Scorpio -  its ok, you don't need to send me those decals anymore, Gamera was so nice as to help me out and has already collected them together.
