Hey guys, just letting you know im still around. havent had much of a chance to respond as ive got a full house and im rushed off my feet at work.

small 2 bedroom apartment with 4 people in it. Im very slowly going insane lol.

I've added some weathering to the trio, and the gun det, and made my first attempt at a scenic base:

for the base its on pink foam, painted tan.  Then I added play sand that was sterilized in the microwave to the wet paint.  I then added 2 shades of saw dust that was dyed in 2 shades of paint and then ground up in a pepper mill.

The foam will go on a wooden plaque I got from the dollar store that I'm waiting for it to finish drying from its last coat of stain.

This isn't for sure the final resting place before I add the detachment, I'm still making sure I'm completely happy with the results.

Looks good so far. you wanna add some tire tracks though, make it look a little more like it was driven in rather than plonked there by the mother ship.

Nice looking scenario so far, Chris.  I will look forward to seeing more of it.

While I'm waiting for bronze paint to arrive from Squadron, I got busy on replacing the little fillets (or whatever) around the engine cowling for the Gladiator project.  The first shot is dark since the flash didn't pop, but it's clearer than the second.

The second is somewhat out of focus, but the flash illuminates the modifications better.  I photocopied a diagram of the Gladiator which I had enlarged on the computer.  Then I glued the shapes to sheet plastic using Elmer's.  I cut the shapes out with curved manicure scissors, then soaked the glue off.  Then, I wrapped a piece of masking tape around the cowling, and again using an enlarged diagram, I marked the locations of the little nubs.  I glued them on with tube glue, and did a little smoothing and shaping with sandpaper.  I looks from pictures and profiles that they should be rounded, but I wasn't sure how to accomplish that, so I left them flat.  At least, I think they look better than what was moulded there in the first place.

Pink foam insulation base, painted it tan and sprinkled on the play sand.  Once it dried I tried to spray a water/glue mix.  That failed so I used a 1/2" brush and painted on the saw dust.

Nah, i just reckon NZ has had such a good run over the last 50 years that it was finally our turn for a few natural disasters.

well it's done out of three kits  this one survived first one lost the front  landing gear and the putty melted the plastic, second one just got frustrated with it instructions weren't too clear on how some of the parts went and some of the parts in the instructions were mislabeled.

this kit is a very nice little kit is it in scale? don't know don't care is it accurate looks like a mig 15 to me

i did it up in the Hungarian markings and am quite happy with the way cameo turned out probably used to much micro gloss tho I painted the walk ways not sure if I will put the little stencils on or not I don't think you will really be able to see them. All paints were Humbrol colors sand, army green, brown,sky blue no masking used all done by eye and being very careful.

I think I can officially say this is the first Hungarian model I've seen here - I love these unusual schemes!

Any suggestions for the tire threads?  I don't want to push the quad into the foam.

I was thinking of maybe trying one of my kids dinky cars but I think I'm going to be hard pressed to find the right wheel base.

Looking at the mud on the wagon, id suggest a wet ground, which would result in tire spin etc, resulting in deep gouges in the ground welling up with water. Wouldnt leave tread marks.

Sharp looking Hungarian aircraft, Khalee.  The colors look good together.

Chris, you should be safe rolling the model across the terrain while it's damp, especially if you applied the ground cover with white glue (Elmer's or something similar).  It should wash right off with water.

OK, transition time. (yeah, like I can ever just work on one thing at a time....) I'm going from the smallest kit I've ever done in 1/72 (Hughes MD500 for the IDF GB), to the largest in 1/72.

That's right, time to give myself some Greif!

I'd like to dress her up similar to one that my grandfather came across. Looks like the thing was "squiggled" all over. I'll need to track down appropriate decals as well, the original decals are hideous.

I'm getting a kick out of the instruction sheet, page 1, fine...

And you see all those numbers.... there are NO NUMBERS on the sprues!! Glide bombs, I cleaned them up & started working on them already.

I was looking for some references for the cockpit area, but if I use the Airfix glass... well, most of it will just be globs of colour. Not sure if I want to track down an AM canopy, then go nuts on the cockpit or not. Could get pricey quickly. I still have time to think about it I suppose as I work away on some of the other assemblies. (And other kits I've cracked open...)

Yes, only a slight size difference!!! The 500 is 99% complete (I need to add some more dull-coat, still too shiny). Final pics are in the IDF group build.

I think I have good news on the Mirage F1 decal front! I tried a new batch of liquid decal film on my old oob Airfix decals. I applied the stuff, let it sit for a week, then tried one of the tail badges last night. It still took forever to soak off the backing paper, but I was able to float it into place on the model, pressed it down fine with my trusty lint-free cloth and.... no curling/flaking this time. So, if all goes as planned, I should have the remaining decals on this evening, sealed up tomorrow, undercarriage & weathering taken care of by the end of the week!

Hi My name is Khalee and I'm a airfix  junkie

My next kit will be the airfix 1/72nd scale mk1 mk2a spitfire  in the red box with all the eduard detail sets I could get for it. It also will be my most expensive kit to date 60 bucks total, Ordered it form squadron and if they ship it tomorrow I should get it Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. I'm Only 170 miles from them.

Hey bsyamato: is the grief still readily available? Im keen to do a kit thats not very commonly built. But common enough that i can actually find a kit.

The revell version i found on many italian online vendors, the airfix not  

As i know theres two version of revell grief, one with the same fliyng bombs as Vance shows, the other with fritz X as the kit i have (A-5 version) Heres i found under the 25 € for the two version.

Overall dimensions are as a b-17

i added some piece but this is the general detail level of the kit

Decals have responded well to the liquid film fix-up. I used Micro-Set instead of the micro-sol, I figured with no real compound curves, there is no sense going for the big gun considering how much trouble I've had with these decals so far. There is some silvering to deal with, not a big problem though. Bad news - the white outline on the "roundels" is a little out of register, but not too bad. Good news - the decals, even with my liquid-film layer, are ridiculously thin!
