Is the Corsair (FFA) in the new 1/72 red airfix box a new tool, or just a rebox of theold poorfitting corsair???

SurpriseWOW!

I had no idea it was that old.

I just wish Airfix would make improvements to canopies.Other than that, the kit went together with very little fuss.

Yes, the new-tools are much improved. 1/72 Sea Harrier (granted, it's only a 2-piece deal) is nice & clear, fits well and the recent 1/72 Bf109G also looks good, although I haven't test-fit it yet.

On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister

 the real red baron:

Khalee2 - your building the same kit as me! But I wanted USN markings. Beware the canopy is a very poor fit Wink.

Airfix really needs to brush up on canopies.

Considering this kit is pushing 40 years old (molds anyway), the fit is about right...their modern molds fit very well. The canopy on the new tool Spitfire I/II snapped into place and needed no glue.

On the bench (all 72nd):

  • 7 Spitfires & Seafires
  • Wellington III
  • N-9H Navy Jenny

Holy Flying Buffaloes!! Not something you see built up very often. I love the 2-colour wings, I need to try that on something. One quick fix for that ill-fitting canopy. You can fill that gap with a few applications of white glue before painting, help flush it into the fuselage a little better.

The real problem was that there is no way to test fit all three pieces to the canopy at the same time.Separately they all seemed like a good fit.By the time I was ready to install them the plane was painted.Bang, zoom and BONED!

I wasn't gonna mess with it any more.I can always hide behind the fact that I'm not much of an aircraft builder.

After a few days out of town and a few weeks under the weather, the Buffalo is finally done. The decals sucked and the canopy is a poor fit,but the rest of the kit is just fine.

Well here is where I am at with the FAA Corsair OOB the only thing I did was to sand down the rivet detail and clip the wings like it showed.

Hey Scorpio,

Is it too late to join up?  If not, I'd like to build either a 1/48th Scale Stuka, or a 1/72nd Scale Fw 190.

Great models, everyone.  Have greatly enjoyed watching from the sidelines, now I want to get in.

Thanks,

Dave

Scorpiomikey

After a wee bit of interest in the feeler thread im posting a proper GB here with all the rules.

Lets get into it.

1. Must be an airfix kit. Can be from any time period, any tooling, as long as its branded airfix. (you can even paint up the original airfix combs if you really want, lol)

2. If you have a kit that is branded differently but is deffinatly an airfix tooling, if you can prove this i will accept it.

3. Start Date will be sept 1st 2011. This gives enough time for people to prepare.

4. End date will be Sept 1st 2012. Plenty of time to work through the more complicated kits.

5. When signing up please post Kit name and scale.

6. It can be OOB or as much AM or scratchbuilding as you desire.

Ill have a badge up before the start date.

Off we go people.

Enjoy yourselves.

Thanks to VanceCrozier we have a badge. If anyone has any special size requests feel free to ask him.

http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af250/VanceCrozier/GroupBuildBadges/airfix-GB_logo_250px.jpg

Same rules as always, save the badge to your own personal image hosting account before putting it in your signature. A completed entry is required before you may take the badge.

2022 New Year's Resolution:  Enter 1 group build and COMPLETE a build this year!!  Why Photobucket did you rob me of my one Group Build Badge???  Must be part of the strong anti-Monogram cartel!!!

Thanx for comments guys Smile hope the scout canopy will looks better after retouches, unfortunately the remainings original clear parts look really bad even after more glossy layers and sanding Sad when the upper canopy parts will be secured with CA cure i'll try to remove and replace them.

Nice looking Corsair RRB, sanding seams appears good Yes if the color scheme you performing includes white, next time is better to start with this one, as good rule the lighter color go first .

Oh, ok.

All my models are pretty much OOB, except for the decals on this corsair.

The landing gear is drying as we speak.

Out Of the Box. i.e. no after market parts at all.

At this stage no. ill be heading in to the LHS's this weekend to have a look for something cheap. One of them often has $20 kits that were donated by an ex model club member who died a couple years ago. I think i saw a zero in there last time.

Looks good bsyamto.

This is the current stage in which my corsair sits. I attempted my first navy plane in a tri-colour scheme.

Scorpio -  its ok, you don't need to send me those decals anymore, Gamera was so nice as to help me out and has already collected them together.

Thanks for the offer anyway!!
