Oh, well, I just went for it!  It's called Erstwhile Classics, which maybe is a bad name?  Need to think of a badge, and how to make one.  Anyway, let's see who signs up!  Basically, I was inspired by this GB!  I have an Esci 1/72 F-16B which is just crying out to be built!  Then there's a Matchbox Buffalo, and a Frog DH.Hornet., and a...

You could call it the OOP Group Build!

Field of Dreams!  Doh!  Didn't pick-up on that reference immediately! Very good.

That makes you the Keven Costner of the GB anyway   Cool

Well thanks for the compliment centhot. The best thing you can do is start a feeler thread. If you get enough responses, just make an official thread with a badge and a set of rules.

If you build it, they will come.

This GB has been most useful and fun - it's made me actually get those old kits built, and in the case of the Camel finished (not well, but as I say, the worst finished model beats the best unfinished one) - including fabricating some new parts to replace missing bits!  Alone, I probably would have just binned it.

I'm actually thinking I might run my own GB, for kits from companies that no longer exist, which is rather small actually, but includes some classics.  Matchbox, Frog, and Esci spring to mind.  How does one go about creating a GB?

Scorp--

I've got Airfix's new HMS Trafalgar kit. The hull is together but no paint or fiddly bits have been put on. Is it eligible?

There is some great work in here; lots of "old friends" (the kits I mean ;)

so you accept cross-overs? I just joined in the SAR GB with the olf Airfix RAF 63ft Rescue Launch. I can x-over here if allowed.

cheers

Centhot way to keep at it!

TD, looking forward to seeing the Buffalo finished.

Dupes, looking forward to seeing the lawn dart finished.

Kinda stalled out on the Spit for the moment.  Really should get back to her, as all she needs is the exhausts painted, the landing gear installed and the decals applied.  Went to the local HobbyTown today and came back with this (has the corrected SLA, CSM and BPC):

Went into my closet, and found this (vintage 1978):

Upon opening the Shuttle, I found my Cutting Edge resin SSME set, Shuttle Tile decal set, Shuttle vinyl mask set, SILTS pod and an updated Shuttle Logo set.  Plan on meeting some friends at a not so local HobbyTowntomorrow for lunch.  They had the updated Saturn V in Skylab configuration last time I was there, maybe bringing that home as well.  If so, the Saturn Ib will be in a Skylab paint scheme.

Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.

Glad to see you forging ahead on another kit Centhot.

Thanks for the kudos on the Buffalo fellas.I am enjoying it.The decals however totally blow!

They just won't lay down in places for Micro Sol or Micro Set.The a/c reg. numbers broke into five pieces each.I tried to salvage the first, but it folded up and that was it.I should have it finished in a day or two.Pics to follow ASAP.

OK, so, after the debacle of the Camel, here's the Widgeon.

Here's how it was when I started the GB

I'd read elsewhere, several times, that the engines didn't fit the nacelles, as can be seen here:

The solution was green putty and plenty of it!  I also removed the rather pathetic coolers (?) on the top - I'll fashion new ones.  If nothing else, would be hard to blend every in with them extant.

One done!

Both done, and the mainplane attached.  Some blending will be needed though, as the square section is a different size to the fuselage...  I'm getting the idea that everything is to a different scale here!  Still, the fuselage fitted nicely (mostly), almost Tamiya infact!

You've done a creditable job with perhaps very little to work with.  When I did WWI years ago, I preferred Revell's Camel to Airfix; just seemed better.

Nonetheless, congratulations on your perseverence and the skills you've learned.  I don't think I'd have stuck with it like you did.

I tried rigging the Camel, but, a disaster!  So, here's the final picture, before it goes to the last mission, a terminal mission, that will only end in it's loss...

I suspect I was so patient because I was trying to avoid homework assignments at the time!  Hmm

I used to clean my room and do laundry.  I totally should have worked on models instead! Bang Head

The Buffalo is in the home-stretch! Can't wait to see that one finished up./quote]Astonishingly good painting for hand-painted.

It's all about thin paint & multiple coats! I've got a few in the display case that are from my pre-airbrush days that I am still pleased with the finish. Patience patience patience. I suspect I was so patient because I was trying to avoid homework assignments at the time!  Hmm

Do you want me to post that pic on the front page? or do you have another one you would prefer?

Good question!  I'll do some minor tidying up put on the wheels and gun.  I won't bother with the rigging for now, as I suspect it will look a lot worse once I've put my claws into it!  Still, this Camel will not have died in vain, as hopefully I'll have learnt some good lessons from it.  I'll post another picture up in the next few days, with a better background.
