Both nice looking kits--the 109 and the Mirage.  Very creative use of those little loopy things.

Well it's not award-winning, but it's better than what was there to start with, and I'm having fun with it. The "belt buckles" are just spots of paint of course, but look better to the eye than they do on the camera. (That's what I keep telling myself anyway!!!)

Thanks Noah - that's actually a 1/48 Revell kit. The antenna wire is actually fishing line, 3-pound test I think, attached & then painted black. After a few days it seemed to sag a little, I may need to warm it up a bit to see if I can tighten it up again!

Thats a great idea Vance and a very good looking bird. if that is 72nd scale what did you use for the wire?

Anyone know a easy way to paint spirals on a spinner? That's be really sweet. The Hs 129 has twin (small0 radials o small cone spinners (molded directly on to props). Actually the relatively small size of this plane impressed me.

I finally tried painting the stripe instead of using decals on my last Bf109. I painted the spinner white, wrapped a thin strip of tape around it starting at the cannon muzzle & working my way to the rear of the spinner. Gave it a quick shot of matt coat (to lessen the chance of the top coat of paint bleeding through), then a couple of light coats of black-green.

Looking good on that F-1AZ!

I have painted the first brush coat of dark earth on my C-337 and thought a second coat will be final.Yea right! I thinned the pait way to much and now it is all streaky

Hey, the Henschel is coming along nicely Noah - for splotches in 1/72, I've used a Q-tip before with pretty good luck. You'd need to use enamels with it though, acrylics soak into it too quickly.

Greenshirt. I have the worlds most useless paintbrush (tiny). Thanks for the suggestion, build them like a broken up micro worm pattern....

OK, off & running, officially!

I've started the Mirage F1c before my Heinkel 177. It's a 1/72 kit, and will be doubling up for the African Group Build.

• Raised panel lines & everything looks good shape-wise.
• There is a slight warp to the fuselage halves but nothing that some careful gluing can't fix.
• I'm going to try to use the oob decals (presently hanging in a sunny window to bleach them a little, Microscale decal film waiting!) for a South African Air Force machine.  If I can't salvage the originals I'll have to go aftermarket or print my own.
• lots of flash on the landing gear, but I think I managed to mostly clean that up, so I may not have to mount her "in-flight" as I planned.
• I will be deflecting the control surfaces slightly, including the all-flying elevators.

I've trimmed the tab in to the pivot point, leaving a little bit to mount with. I won't deflect them too much because I will likely still need to have some surfaces close enough together to glue. Now I need to fill in the gap in the fuselage slots. I may have to attach these before gluing the halves together...

Extended the cabin floor & attached a couple of styrene bits for the "pedals", stretched sprue for the control stick. (I still have some spares to dig through, I might find something better than what I will be scratching for this!)

The ejection seat (I could have sworn I took a before pic ). It actually had a decent shape, but needed some help! Masking tape belts and I used the loop off of a "beading needle" that I found at a local craft store. I know the actual seat has a two-loop gizmo for the "over the head ejection pulls" - I'm thinking I've got it close enough in 1/72!

The "beading needles" - 12 for $1? I can see me using these in more cockpits in the future, loop antennas etc.

Cut a little groove in the top of the seat so the loop looks like it is coming out of the headpiece rather than sitting on top.

All painted up, although I see a couple tiny spots that need a drip of paint:

A member of my club uses the fine tipped Microbrush, size: Superfine.  I get mine at hobby shops.  I haven't tried them yet because it's been a very long time since I built a Luftwaffe subject, but he puts just a little bit of paint on the tip, almost like a dry-brush, then dabs the side.  It looks really good and he's done it on 144th as well as 72nd subjects.

Noah i hoped in engraved panel lines to build another 129 at low price built the really good italeri/revell ome years ago but with the price of it i can buy two airfix .... resignation

bsyamato. Raised panels lines. i missed some injector pin markings as well. I'm pondering how far to bring down the darker grey splinters on the sides. Without a working airbrush my splotches dont come out that well. This is why I havent done a German plane in a bit.

My 1/72 C-337 (O-2a) is basically ready for painting, it will be back to brushpainting as I broke my airbrush:-(

Some "interesting" filling and sanding was needed on this little model.

I was palnong on doing it in the colours of the Rodhesian air Force, but there are to many mods to be done and I don't recon this model is worth the effort.

The decals for the USAF are very old and yellow so I will be painting it in a "what if South African Air Force" bush war sceeme with some left over SAAF decals.

The buffalo is looking great whit camo TD used citadel acrilycs?  A rivet counter question, the first star of the engine seems molded wrong ,airfix miss a cilinder

I love hand painting camo.

It's probably not dark enough,but it's the closest shade I have.The buffalo is definately a nice kit so far.I hope the canopy fits reasonably well.Poor fitting canopies seems to be a hallmark of Airfix.

Henschel looks to be moving right along, Noah.  As for the decals, depending on their age, sometimes Airfix decals go on and settle over the details better than some aftermarket ones.  If the kit-supplied ones don't work, you can always take them off and use something else.

Stayed up last night getting my Airfix.

Have I said this kit has been simple? A little Tamiya putty on the seams and some sanding. I thought that the barrel to the 7.5 was an oppurtunity that they passed up on. I drilled it out using dif xacto tips. I put a little was on some sections just to see them pop. I'm looking forward to researching some birds today. I'm not even going to try the orig decals and have enough spare ones to come up with something interesting.

Looking good TD.  I love these old Airfix kits.  Reasonably accurate shapes that just need some old-fashioned modelling to make them look nice.  For the price they are a great way to hone skills.

i'm not sure about the year, airfix did some new mold but don't remember none of these between new molds, ask the customer to show the box content, if are old molds is simply to check

New molds for sure are the bae hawk ,bf-110 the sabre, the mig-15, a bf-109 and the valiant and the new spitfire mk I.

For the p-40, the b version is new, the e version not and one of hurricanes

I'm in the Panhandle (NW Florida).

Put the Fuselage and the wings together on the HS 129. No worries, close seam. Don't care for the raised panel lines and a practical deletion of interior detail but this kit has got to be old as balls. It's been fun so far...

i wouldn't buy a old airfix kit, I've built a few before, they as in airfix are re-creating some of thier older kits and making new ones, its hard to come by anything that gives you what you pay for, the new airfix kits are cheap and quite satisfying in their quality, a little more interior detail would be nice though.

my LHS really only stock airfix and revell, and rarely some other brands.

where i live isn't really the best place to find some of the more unique models. but i did pick up a nice little gem at my LHS a while back, (revell 1:72 Blohm Und Voss BVP-194).
