wBill,,,    Thanks....  I agree about the PE. I will look for any "better way" with PE or otherwise really (I guess we are all like that)...  and I am with you on the worst being behind me,,

Andy,,    Much obliged,, thanks Pal

Stik,,   Thank you, and I also agree,,,  PE limits, for sure.       And yes, all those tiny pins and tracks do get monotonous (mind-numbing) after a while.

Eric,,   Thank you as well....     they are expensive - - that is part of my love / hate relationship

Satch,,   I thought I missed something there for a moment....  realized you were talking to wBill (Bill).....   There's the thing about too many Bill's,,,  if they are dollar bills, they are ok,,,  if they are the bills in the mailbox they are not ok.              In a group build, it's all good.

Enjoy the ride!

Bill, that's what I thought but it sure caused me some confusion, looking at yours and then looking at mine.

Left side of the suspension is done.  Not doing the return rollers as yet as I am going to use the Doog/DoogsATX technique for indie track links.

The Friuls look great. Just wish they weren't so dang much. They would have been great for my build.

Great work all.

Looking good Bill, you've got the most tedious part out of the way now with the tracks done. Nice work on the bolt head solution...sometimes PE just isn't the way to go and just because the kit provides it doesn't mean something better isn't available.

PE does have its limitations. Lack of depth and curvature being two big ones. Very nice improvisations thereYes But all those tiny track links and pins... Indifferent you're a brave soul

wBill,,   I do like your step by step presentation...  very informative,,, and coming along nicely to boot!

Boyd,,   I've always liked that old Tamiya 222... nice idea with the flooring, agreed. The figures should compliment it very well,,  nice

Eric,,   great patience with the tracks,, the sag looks spot on too

Stik,,   your stowage is filling out the wagon,, nice assortment. The bikes and figs are looking very good too.  PS, I also do like Polly S....  guess you get used to a certain brand...  [in my opinion] it's a shame they are out of business.

Well, I have been trying to get some pics up (as limited as my progress has been),,,  here are a few -

Minimal cleanup on the roadwheels and suspension... no real hitches here. Added a few dings, hull scrapes, etc.

Cleaned up the inside of the drive sprockets....     should work out fine

The next step was a peach...  in the forward section of the PE running board flange are two tiny holes. The instructions direct you to remove these microscopic PE circles and glue over the holes (two on each side)...

(umm,,  I don't think so....)      I stretched some sprue and shoved a thin piece into the holes.

I then snipped them off (underneath the flange) and and left just a little sticking out on the outside. I hit the "nubs" with some liquid cement and mushroomed the heads a bit.  (crappy pictures, sorry)

A gentle sanding stick to shape and clean them,,,,   I believe they will look ok.

Now the baseball series loomed into view while I'm building...    I decided to wach some of the game(s) and continue to build,,,  but I needed some no-brain work that wouldn't require much concentration...

Friuls to the rescue....

I luv them and I hate them at the same time....

But,, they are now strung and together...

Nothing super exciting,,   Hope you like and all feedback welcome....

On to more of the build soon......

Bill

Enjoy the ride!

Tread, the pace is fast on this one (relatively speaking) because I have time on my hands during the week...at least for now! Normally I only build on the weekends and will have to return to that schedule after this week so expect things to slow down a bit...especially since I'm coming up on the turret which will be detailed and displayed with some hatches open. As to your question about the paint scheme, do what you want and follow your heart, it's your build! Wink

Eric, thanks and nice work on the tracks...they are a pain having built them myself for a Marder build sometime back so kudos for your patience and results!

BeerSatch, most likely you have a later run kit. I got mine when it was first released waaaay back when so who knows? It's not a material difference as to whether the ends are hollow or closed, so don't sweat it!

Boyd, off to a good start, look forward to seeing what you do with this one. The floor insert will help with the "void" for sure.

Stik, sorry to hear about the weather delays but looks like you've made up for it by getting more work done on the details. Nice bit of scrounging!

Hey Bill, Eric and Boyd - great work guys, they're really coming together.

SP: Dang if you aren't almost done! Great job as always.

Tread: I'm building my Char B1 up as 'Vercingetorix'- the third scheme on the Tamiya instruction sheet. I like the crazy paint job and I watched a show about the Gauls just before I started which I suppose planted the seed in my mind.

Hello Southern France,

I am happy to help on the paints.

Those sound like my kind of traditions! I enjoy wine and cheese myself when the opportunity arisesToast Water may be good for the body, but good wine is good for the soulWink

Thanks stikpusher for the information about the paints.

Not just a military tradition. In many families you find in midday and evening meals a bottle of wine on the tables. And a good wine with a piece of fromage .......Olala very good Wink

But this tradition decrease . Now young eat with water or soda .

Thank you Vit! I do recall from the French Mess Hall in Mostar, Bosnia, that there was wine to be had with the midday and evening meals.(Also in the Italian Caribineri Mess Hall in Sarajevo Toast)  I am sure that is a long standing military tradition Wink

Polly S paints were discontinued about 10 years ago or so. They were replaced by Polly Scale, which airbrushes far better, but is somewhat translucent when hand brushed. Polly S paints are different from Aeromaster in both color line and the fact that Aeromaster paints came in both enamel and acrylic. I do believe that the Aeromaster paint lines were made by Floquil/Polly S though. Their enamels had the same odor and characteristics as Floquil paints. The acrylics were somewhere between Polly Scale and Polly S in consistancy.

I LOVE Polly S for brush painting!!! One of the LHSs actually got some Polly S (Not Polly Scale) Field Drab in due to a misorder. Apparently the company still has "new" old stock left. Of course I snatched up a few bottles.

I was just looking up Tamiya paint mixes for FieldDrab and found that JGSDF Brown, XF-72 is a decent match for Field Drab, but a bit lighter.

Thanks. I'll give it one more go and if I don't like it, I'll get the Tamiya. Usualy MM covers well enough. I can't say the same for Polly S, which I never cared for.

Well the sag sure looks good TigermanYes I know indies are a PITA, but the results do show.

Due to rain all day it was a "no airbrushing" day.  So I added a little more stowage to the UE Carrier after painting. Some Wine Bottles and a lantern from the Tamiya Churchill. I had to custom mix a color to get them to the brown color using Tamiya clear Red, Yellow, and Green. Then once all dried I glued them all into the cargo shelf area, along with a couple of French Steel Pots for the crew.

And I built the rider figures for the German motorcycles. I drilled out the solid lenses from the goggles and will use drops of clear glue for lenses once they are painted.

Some poor updated photos of how I did the track sag. There is fairly minimal sag, but just enough. One side per day. I'll have to reshoot the color since it appears I'm stuck with it.

These weren't fun, but I think it worked out on my slow technique. I should have timed myself on these.

Yer killin me Boyd! What fabulous detail. Tamiya is the gold standard.

We have a Frenchman on board my friends. Vit13.

As Bish will agree in his Falklands GB which is a winner, when we get modelers in from the areas in question, in that case Azorean and El Jere, things really light up.

Welcome Vit.

Hey fellas

Here are a few pics of my 222. This is a typical old Tamiya kit. The parts pretty much fall together, however they do require quite a bit of clean-up.

The first couple steps have you assemble the suspension and running gear. The undercarriage of this guys is actually pretty nicely detailed:

I've got the wheels all assembled as well, but will wait until later to put them on.

I added a styrene floor so I could add the most basic of interiors since I'd like to leave the anti-grenade screens open (or at least partly open), and don't really want people to look down into nothingness.

Tonight, I did some work on the gun assembly. There are relatively few pieces, but these required a LOT of scraping and sanding to get rid of seams, ejector pin marks, and sprue attachment points. I probably spent two hours at the bench and got half a dozen parts assembled:

At AMPSEast a couple weeks ago, I picked up these figure sets. I plan to use a couple figs from each to put this in a little scene on a dio base from Farina Enterprises that I bought last year:

Hope to have more to share soon.

To mix Field Drab with Tamiya I would say use Flat Earth and either Olive Drab or Khaki Drab.

Does anyone know if Tamiya's Khaki is a close match to Model Master's Field Drab? I'm thinking of respraying with Tamiya for better coverage.
