well i put off my type 33 ss that needs to be done by wed for club contest. it, like all shelf queens, is at the airbrush stage. pulled out the br-52 and working on the tender and airbrushing some so i should get some confidence to hit the sub this weekend. i suspect rigging an e-1 would be easier than a biplane. fine wire.brass rod and a pin vise for holes. at that scale could fill the holes with white glue. i thiink i would paint the wing and fusalage before but be prepared to repaint and ahnd paint the rigging. at least that is my plan for stack stays for 1/350 predreadnoughts. as if i don't have enough, i now have HIKAWA MARU, a 1/700 TING YUEN and a pair of 1/7-- sino-japanese war cruisers plus HMVS CRERBUS .... AND just picked up the 1/35 trumpeter Faun SLT-56 Panzertransporter to stash on top of the chinese tank transporter. probably put a TZT-99 tank (in my stash) on the one and maybe an SPA on the other. maybe even in this lifetime.

Sorry not been an active participant, but I have, sort of, taken part.  I decided not to allow any kits to stay unbuilt into 2012,  so, all the Shelf Queens that I knew I would never finished were shipped off to a friend's kid for playing with.  This leaves 5:

Airfix 1/72 Gnat (old mold) - I recently filled and primed twice

Airfix 1/48 Mosquito - Not much done

Revell 1/72 Merkava III - I did an awful job originally, so unglued, re-set, and just re-painted parts

Revell 1/72 Fokker Eindeckker - Rigging, oh dear, I don't know....

Revell 1/72 Fokker D.VII - Oh that scheme, how do you do those lozenges?

VX-9 was the test squadron that came out of VX-5 and VX-4 (5+4=9) at China Lake and Pt Magu, California. I grew up next to China Lake and always loved watching the jets fly over our house on their way to land. While  the F14s were at Pt Magu, and not China Lake, we did go to the airshow down there a few times and saw them fly. Yes, very good memories.

Here are a few pics of my first entry.  It is Revell's 1/48 F-14D with VX-9 markings.  I have some touch up painting to do on the forward fuselage and still have to paint the missiles and finish up the landing gear and exhaust nozzles.

I hope everyone's holiday season is going well and look forward to seeing your builds get completed.

I would do the same thing Screaminhelo.  No sense spending too much effort in a panel that won't be very visible.   A nicely detailed ejection seat always a good idea IMHO.  Like you said, they are much more noticeable.  Looking forward to seeing this twin boomer take shape. Yes

Here is what I am starting with:

As you can see, there was an unfortunate glue accident while I was working on the first seat.  The damaged one seems to have salvageable portions.  Just in case, I still have the patterns that I made for the seats though.

I had intended on this being a bit of an exercise in scratch building.  I had started to do the panel but quickly came to my senses, realizing that it wouldn't be that visible down in that dark pit and decided to focus my efforts on the seats since they would be much more noticeable.

I am still waiting on my box to arrive with a few needed items, I have been home for three weeks and the milvan is still somewhere in between here and there!  I will work on gathering the pieces of the queen for a photo op and begin planning the resurrection.

Looking forward to seeing where you stopped and where you plan to go with the Sea Venom.  Just like luggage....you arrive way before your luggage seems to...

ok, i pulled out the shelf queen thunderbird that i never finished. it started where i left off, cutting off the flared fenders so i can replace them with flat ones. hopefully the sheet styrene will rescue this model.

Judging by the outline for the cut out I believe sheet stryene will do the trick.  Looking good.

Don't get too excited as the only thing I've done since spraying the guide coat was to strip the cockpit mask.  I wasn't sure if it was trimmed or not.

Any progress is good considering the GB we are in....Wink

I'll follow up shortly as I plan on getting that Pz. IV Ausf.A out of the closet tonight and planning my NO MORE EXCUSES battle plan!

Nice.  Looking forward to seeing your Pz IV get finished and picking up a few armor building tips from you.  As far as my builds go I should get to work on the F-14 soon.

I sprayed some gray as a guide coat.  I'll lightly scuff it and see if I need to fill anymore.  Its close but its been so long I can't remember.

All right!  Ed gets us started!

Yo Kevin, glad to get this show on the road. If it's cool with you, I've got a decade-old shelf sitter with just the 'pit installed into a semi-completed fuselage with the lower wing attached that I'd love to do for this GB instead of the Sherman. The kit I'm referring to is DML's 1/48 SPAD XIII. It was shelved over 10 years ago because I loathed the decals it came with. A short time back though, I was able to get my mitts on a sweet  Aeromaster sheet with markings for 5 mounts, including Frank Luke's '26'. Together with a 'Part Of Poland' PE set to beef up the Vickers guns, I think it'll be a cool addition to the GB.

Sounds good dupes.  Can't wait to see the F-102 finished.  I always like the delta wings.  A delta wing GB crossed my mind at one point.  I may put out a feeler thread on that next year.

We are officially underway here at the No Excuses GB: Part Deux.  So let's GIT R DONE!!!!

I will update the roster with your entry Sub revolution!  A boneyard scene would be cool.

Hey Mobious, I just realized I added you to the roster twice.  Sorry.  Brain fart I guess.

Got a quick shot of the progress,

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Tamiya StugIII G Early:550:0]

This is a really great kit. The fit is flawless. It's been a blast to build so far. I just built the StugIIIB last week and it was just as fun to build as this one. I still haven't decided to hang the skirts or spare T34 links along the hull sides of the Stug. Thanks for looking.

Thunderbolt, I'm not 100% positive. The few photo's I have of the early StugIII G are lacking the zim, much like the Panther D's also lacked the coating. Zimm was ordered applied at production levels starting Sept of 1943. Most of the photo's I have show the zimm applied to a "mid" production Stug. One that would also have the cast deflector around the commanders hatch and a base 80mm frontal armor. I'm not an expert on this and have been wrong many times, I'm just attempting to rationalize why I've decided not to use the cavalier set that I have for this kit. BTW, it is a nice set.

Mo -- I love that kit, I have three more in the stash. Are you sure about ther zim? Cavalier make a waffle-pattern set expressly for this kit...

Cheers, Mike/TB379
