Well, I've wrapped up my Academy P-47N.  I intended to use the kit decals and make an aircraft from the 456th fighter squadron, 414th fighter group.  Brittle, splintering decals forced me to break out the Aeromaster AM decals that I have.  They're a better choice anyway.  I ended up using the personal marking "High Cover" creating a fictitious aircraft for that squadron.  But she looks pretty good sitting up there on that big nose.

I painted Alclad over preshaded panel lines.  The aircraft received a modest weathering with charcoal and burnt umber artists chalk.  A coat of clear flat was applied.  I painted the canopy frame interior green, and then covered the exterior of the frame with matte aluminum Bare Metal Foil.

I loaded it up with underwing stores, drilled out gun barrels and rocket tubes, and added brake lines. I enhanced a pretty nice cockpit with some Eduard placards, shoulder harness and fiddly bits from the photoetch leftovers.

Wabash - An absolutely spectacular job. Really nice paint and weathering. I'm curious, what clear flat did you use? It doesn't seem to have diminished the Alclad nor your chalk.

Okay guys, builds #2 and 3 are completed! First up is "Passionate Patsy" which was my Tamiya Bubbletop. I used all Tamiya sprays on her, and Zotz decals finished up the rest. All in all a great kit, if you have not built one yet, what are you waiting for?

I built Patsy as a long range escort with fuel tanks aboard. This would have been appropriate for the theatre she worked in. Thanks for checking her out!

My next completed was the Revell P-47N done as "Chautauqua" which is done as a sister build to my Revell Razorback "Ms. Second Front." The Razorback is taking a little bit longer in the spray booth, so while I am waiting I knocked out the N. Once again, all Tamiya sprays and enamels on this one, with the exception of the antiglare panel, which is Krylon

. The preshading really paid off as it looks great now that she is completed. Zotz decals were used, and they went on great.

I am really happy with both of these, Chautauqua especially. It is my favorite nose art by far. Thanks again!

That Tamiya Silver looks great. I thought it was Alclad, with a bit of a dullcoat until I read the summary. While both are really nice, I like "passionate patsy" the most. That paint scheme, with the white tail is nice! Congrats!

Nothing like a beautiful pair of Jugs to enhance the cheesecake. Absolutely magnificant P=47s Ed. I have those decals and you have certainly done them justice.

You guys in this GB have really set the bar up there, so I'm gonna do my best to see it doesn't slip down. Now that my DR.I is finished and I've had a few days to gear up for my jug, today was a perfect day to crack 'er open and get busy. Been working on the 'pit and the gear bays - most of the painting is now done on those sections and they now have a gloss coat on 'em in prep for the pin wash and other weathering. Gotta say I'm really liking this little Tamiya jug - outstanding detail for a 1/72 kit. Plan on seeing some progress pics before the weekend's out.

Satch, Kermit, Wabash and Von Sisco – excellent work from everybody! Those builds are looking great.  Wish I could pump them out like you Von Sisco, really great work.

I thought i’d provide a quick WIP update on mine.

I decided to try and add a bit of wiring to the engine, just to make it a bit more complete.  Now, i’m the first to admit it’s not 100%, but i think it will add just another bit of interest to the overall build.

I tried to follow some photos, but just couldn’t figure out how to properly represent everything in scale.

Here’s the kit engine unpainted – though i’m sure most of you know what a Tamiya 1/48 kit engine looks like.

Now, here it is with my “wiring”.  I used copper wire with a 0.5mm internal diameter, and then added some super thin wires i obtained from the power cord of a defunct desk lamp.

I chose the lamp wire as it is probably closest to the scale, and was nice an easy to work with.  I originally tried some 0.5mm copper wire, but that was a bit hard to work with.  Also, i thought it looked to thick for the scale.

It still needs some touch up painting and an oil wash.

Hopefully will get some more done this week and post an update.

Cml - Very nice work on the engine. That is exactly where I am at on my Jug and I'm also adding wiring. Yours is certainly more detailed than mine as I did not add attachment points the main harness like you did. What did you use there? Tubing of some sort. Really an impressive job there!

Dude - try running it! It's like not paying off a credit card, with the compounding interest!

The engine's looking good - think next time I tackle a Tammy Jug, I might give one of those Quickboost engines a try, just to shake things up.

I used copper tubing from Albion Alloy.  I think they market specifically for the hobby market - both my LHSs seem to stock them.

The tubing has an internal diameter of 0.5mm and external diameter of 0.7mm. 

One tip though: i originally glued all the attachment points on first.  I cut the tubing with a new No.11 blade, by rolling the tube under the blade until it cut through (thanks DoogsATX for that tip!).

However, on a few, the glue completely clogged the tubing, so for those, i snapped them off, cut new tube, glued the wiring into the tube, then attached the whole component.

I'll definitely do it this way round next time - was much much easier.

DoogsATX – just had a look at the Quickboost engine online.  They look terrific!  I might look at getting their seat for my P-47M build, I really like having the harnesses molded on the seat (as opposed to the decal harness on my current build).

I'm building the same kit. Man, there's a lot of detail packed into 1/72 scale on this bird. I think it's one of their better 1/72 scale entries.
