Thanks, guys, for the warm welcome. I'm already anxious to get back and get cracking. I think I'll go ahead and work on the FB-111 - it's been needing progress for a long time. I'll save the 105 for another time. Below are some pictures of my progress so far. Not very good work but then I have a lot to learn.

Here is my Dad's patch that he wore while he was in the Cotton Pickers squadron:

And here is that aircraft again:

Ken:

I have this one:

http://www.oldmodelkits.com/index.php?detail=4875&page=2&searchtext=voodoo

It is pretty good for big-scale vac.

My first task is tot cut the bulk-head spars, and an internal template for the wings. On the Voodoo, as in many 100 series, they are straight across.

No where near actually starting it....I keep hoping that Trumpeter puts one out......lol.....

Dom

Hi Dom,

Does it come with the drawings to scale for the spars?

Cool patch, Ken. Nice picture too. The F-100 was one of those planes that always looked to me like it was flying, even on the ground. I saw a bunch of them stationed at Phan Rang AB Vietnam in 71. Strangely, the ones I saw were still in their silver livery.

Hey Ken, that's great!

As for the 1/32 vac Voodoo, it has a big set of patterns. There are some spars.

If I can get the time on Saturday, I'll pull the kit out an take a few snaps of the vac and the plans.

Yes, I noticed in the picture that it was either in natural metal or silver paint, not in the ADC grey that was used on the aircraft that my Dad took pictures of.  I know they had to start using paint to fight corrosion on the RF-101C in the high humidity.  It wasn't until later that they started using the SEA camoflage.

Hi Dom,

Thanks man.  Another thing I noticed in the picture is that it doesn't have the extra fuel tanks hanging underneath.  It sure makes it look a lot cleaner and smoother without them.  I think it was prept for a photo op and was not a mission when the picture was taken.

Ya know Ken.  I might be able to make you some decals for his unit based on that image of the F101.  It looks pretty straightforward.  If you can find any more images of his squadron's planes, or ones with higher resolution, send em up and I will see what I can do.

Thank you Rich, I appreciate that.  But it took me two years to find this picture, but you never know.  I figure the design on the tail is not too bad to replicate since it is straight lines.  The hard part will be the lightning bolt.

The Lightning bolt is the easy part.  Now I just need to find my Protractor to get the exact tail measurements from my Revell F101 kit... lol  The trick is making it a 1:1 match for 1/48 or 1/72 or whatever scale.  Let me see what I can come up with.

Hi, Ken.

You got me interested in the Cotton Pickers so I did some searching on the internet. Here is a link I found with some more images of the Cotton Pickers patches. It's near the bottom of the page and the page is really big so do a search for "Cotton Pickers."

Cheers,

Russ

Okay Ken here's the RCM vac VooDoo....must be half my age:

It provides three recon variants:

some of the vac is very thin, and was crushed a wee bit decade or so ago, but not catastrophic.

Ah yes, the T-33.  If I were to win the lottery, I would buy one of those (one that would actually fly) learn how to fly it, and spend a lot of time in the clouds!

Holy hell. Someones actually building something in here?

HAH! I'll have to get some photos up then! As said I'm done when the canopy top piece shows up.

BTW: Nice Voodoos guys, the 101 is pretty much IMHO the best looking of the 'Century Series.'

So it does look like it has the bulkheads drawn out to scale, correct?

I think Mikey might have been just pokin fun at himself as much as anyone.  I mean Rich has been blasting away at building and posting pictures!
