Hi Everyone,

Today I took my Mom to the doctor's office where she had a scope put down her throat to check out the hernia to see what the surgeon was going to deal with.  He said it was pretty big and he is still recommending that she has the surgery.  She will learn more when she goes back to see him next week to discuss it with him.

I went to order the wheel wells from Sprue Brothers first thing this morning and was surprised to find that they now carry the Zoukei-Mura product line!  Very cool!  So I could not resist ordering the new 1/32 A-1J Skyraider along with my wheel wells!  They should be here Wednesday!

I did get a little work done at the workbench this evening.  The resin flaps and ailerons by Wolfpack are very nice but as with most resin aftermarket sets, the directions are very limited.  The first thing I had to do was lay the pieces out and get them oriented as to what went where.  Here is the right wing:

Now these pieces do not match the lines on the Hasegawa parts, so I will need to be very careful about lining everything up and cutting.  The next thing I did was cut off the resin mold stubs and cleaned up the pieces:

That is all I had time for tonight.

Russ,

It's true, if we stopped to document and trace very part to exact scale, we would never get finished.

Yours is the only bomb transport set I've ever seen, so i would cut you some "Aurora License"

if it is a bit out of scale! A lot of work yes, but I'm glad you pulled it off.

I gotta say, dang fine work for a guy whom bills himself a relative beginner.Toast

I have decided to get started on the HobbyBoss MiG-17 1/48 scale. It will be Soviet markings /NMF. First though I must finish up a side project, something I don't normally build: armor. Shouldn't be too challenging as I'm doing it all in Panzer Grey; can't imagine late-war camo or Zimmerit! Anyway the MiG will begin this week end. Will post pics then. Look forward to learning and enjoying this GB.

Ouch Ken!

All the best to her and you. That is a true yeoman's task and dedication.

Aarff! that aileron re-fit is a challenging bit of work you "have cut out for you".......

That's gonna look neat, Mike. I haven't built any armor kits since the 60's. My last kit was the Renwal Atomic Cannon. I think it was 1/32 scale but it was really big (about 3 ft long with the tractors connected). Sure wish I still had it... Sad.

lol my partner felt sorry for me yesterday because i cant build models at the moment. So she bought me some pull back card models. 3 aircraft and a car.

That sort of thing, but bigger and with pull back function.

Hi Everyone,

Its like all I am doing is chopping on this kit!  At this rate I don't think there is going to be much left when I am done!  Tonight I worked on the right wing flap and aileron.  Here is a picture of the top wing section with the flap and aileron held on with tape so it is not align perfectly:

Here is a picture of the bottom wing section before I chopped on it:

Here is the same section chopped:

And here is the bottom with the flap and aileron in place with tape to get an idea of how it is going to look:

I still need to clean up the cuts with some sanding but I think the resin pieces are going to look pretty cool!

Ken: dang, I didn't know you were cutting ALL the control surfaces off, as I've said before she's gonna really be something worn done.

MikeM: nice work there. Btw seems that recent research is showing panzers in the Battle of France had dark brown camo patches randomly applied. Tigerman's Blitz GB had more discussion on this.

Here's the CVN 65 USS Enterprise in it's half-complete state:

I'll need a magnifying glass to put the decals on those birds, and I still haven't replace the CVN-65 decal that goes on the bow-deck.

The devil is in the details, so she'll sit until, ummm, heck.....1926.....

Lol.....2026......

Ken,

that's 1/400, the old Revell kit.

The fore deck was cold-cast and was warped and there wasn't much of a surface because the plastic had frozen before it could fill the mold, it should have gone back into the grinder but some how got to market and then into my collection. I rebuilt and re-surfaced about 25% of the fore deck, with, yes, putty, and some styrene. She floats in salt water at the line.

i wish I could weather her, and give her some depth and detail......she sits in dry dock....coated in dust.....awaiting her next  mission....

It looks like you did a good job of repairing her!  Wow, it sounds like you have not had very good luck with kits!

Hi Everyone,

No work at the bench tonight since I spent the evening helping to defend the house against the variety of goblins, ghosts, ghouls, warewolves, vampires, devils, zombies, and other assorted monsters!

My new 1/32 Zoukei-Mura A-1J Skyraider showed up today along with the wheel wells for the F-4E.  So I am all set.

Thanks for the kind words Ken,

It's not the kits that are at fault, i suppose I just hate seeing them go onto the curb.

That CVN took me more time to de-warp the decks than fill the cold-cast defects.

I re-enforced them underneath with heavy plastic bulkheads, and filled her hull with blue styrofoam and lead

ballast so she would float at her waterline.

The jets are all painted Navy White undersides, and 'Tarnship Grey' (for Rex) on the top sides.

The decals, as you know, are the size of a mouse's wart. I couldn't put them on as they fragged even with decal film-spray applied, I need a fresh set.

She has a sweet hull design, would've made a fab battle-ship.....verrrrry big.....

Nimitz's hull design is like the stretch version, with long straight central portion for industrial capacity,

65's hull is more like a clipper's.

A great kit, less than half the parts of a Trumpeter 1/350, and still big enough to store stuff on....

Hi Folks.  Just checking in.  I haven't been able to get out of bed all day, except for runs to the head.  I hate Flu.  The Doctor has me on a stronger antibiotic now which isn't helping my stomach, but  I need the extra strength stuff.   I hope to be more alive in a week or so. ugg...

Dom, great Enterprise. I had the big kit when I was a kid.  It was probably one of my favorite builds.  It came out great.  I really wish I still had that one, it was some of my best work.  I don't think I would have the patience to do that much de-warping and filling.  Are you going to put on the deck markings?

Oh.  Since I don't think anyone else is doing it this year, I am going to do the Secret Santa build.  So be on the look out for a Thread I will be starting sometime tomorrow if I am alive enough.  I figure if I start now, we should have enough time to get folks interested.   PM me if you are interested.

Not much progress since I can't stay out of bed long.  Tomorrow I am going to start using the laptop so I can keep in touch from my room.  But I won't be doing much.  Hopefully I can get some green putty soon for the FGR.2  I really want to get that one finished.

I am about to skin one of our cats, if I figure out which one was up on my workbench today.  One of them knocked my helping hands clamp and magnifier set off and shattered the lens and broke off one of the arms.  I have to use that for small parts so I am now SOL if I have any detail painting or assembly to do.

Last night I felt fairly human so I did some catching up on some mostly done builds that had damage or missing parts.  I had an Accurate Miniatures P-51B that had it's prop shaft snap off, so I static mounted the prop directly to the kit.  Another one needs a new front windshield glass though, it got cracked.  I want to get some of these old kits out of the way so I don't have as many boxes lying around.  I have a couple of other small ones I may be able to save.

I will try and check in as much as possible until I get over this.
