Theuns - sand & fill - wasn't the gap on the tail kinda crazy? What were they thinking there anyway?

Gamera - I'm starting to think I need one of those Kawasaki Shindens too!

Yea the engineering on this kit was not so logic to me. They could have easly split the tail in half aswell as the wing outer pannels that are solid till about the middle. Where they join the place to sand is not good.

Overall I was not impressed with the kit, but it's almost done now.

Theuns: I hope the fit isn't too bad since I have picked up one of those since the build started. No idea when I'll ever get around to building it though.

Vance: Well, there's always room in the Japanese GB for a Shinden (wink, nudge) Wink

After reaching the point where I was not having any more fun sanding I put the basic camo on, Humbrol enamels freehand.

I still need to paint the radome a slightly lighter grey.

1/72 Grippen SAAF sceemeI had to modify the blade antennas on the spine as the SAAF Grippens are different to the kit.

BTW ,anyone doing the SAAF sceeme take note the SA flags on the fin should be like mine here, the kit shows them pointing the wrong direction.

Wow nice work there Theuns, love the diamond pattern. If there are flaws I don't see them. Wink

Funny they screwed up the insignia though, think that's one thing they'd get right.

I love that diamond pattern - looks like the shadow of another jet, or a jet's silhouette further away than it really is. Nice!

Hi Theuns,

I don't mind your Gripen at all ! I am thinking of getting me one, what did you think of the kit ?

Vance - can you change my entry from a 1/48 Draken to a 1/72 one please, I changed my mind. Still Hasegawa.

Cheers

Tony

Hi Tony.

The Italeri 1/72 Gripen I did not enjoy atall. For me the $ I paid for it was not worth the poor fit of the parts, It could also just be my that has no idea how to build!

Thanks Theuns. I've seen your results and trust your building skills. I'll look elsewhere when it comes time to do a Gripen.

Thanks for the shrink job Vance, might need another kind of shrink to cure this plastic obsession I've developed.

Cheers

Whew! Getting caught back up on everything now that I'm finally home. On a side note, my Draken never showed up at the hobby store, so I guess I will have to find something else. Lots of choices of Ebay....

Yamato- there is a set of 1/72 decals for the "yellow bull" for about $15 US. That's not bad.

I also managed to pick up a copy of the above mentioned magazine, after thinking I would miss it! Very good stuff in there.... Now I kind of want to do a "Team 60" aircraft, though I can't find a kit with the markings and I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try it without....

Well, I will let you know how it goes!

Oh and, Theuns- The kit may have been a bear, but it turned out nicely!

sub revolution - a Team 60 machine would be quite sharp! I keep thinking I should try to pick up one of those B18 kits.. but can't convince myself to pull the trigger on that much $$ for a 1/72 kit.

So a while back, somebody (don't remember who!!) asked about schemes for a Draken and I mentioned a photo I had seen with an all white Viggen. Here is the photo, sorry for the poor quality, it's from a book!

Untitled

It came from this book: Untitled

My dad got it for me when he went on a business trip in 2001. I have no idea what it says because it's all in Sweedish, but it's got nice pictures! As for me, after consulting the committee (my wife) I decided on doing a B-17 and ordered the Marivox 1/72 kit. As much as I like the floating or ski version, I'm thinking about doing the Ethiopian AF version just for something different. Thanks, Budd

Budd - is that an all-white Viggen with some sunlight on it, or is it the yellow special markings setup? The ID-numbers are the same...

Huh, I dunno, Vance. I always assumed it was white with sunlight on it. Kind of looks too pale to be yellow, but maybe....

Looks nice either way!
