tcepilot - Good group build subject.  Gotta like it.  Also, I gotta get in with a 1:72 AM F-4J in VF-142, a/c # 214 (Mig killer) markings.  Please accept this application.  Thanks!

It'll be the first jet of my modern model building era.

Smile

P.S., I probably won't get started until early autumn sometime - I have a few other gb's to make good on first.  But I will get it done Wink.

Flight deck:  Hasegawa 1:48 P-40E; Tamiya 1:48 A6M2 N Type 2 ('Rufe')

Elevators:  Airfix 1:72 Grumman Duck; AM 1:72 F-4J

Here is the F-4C so far (the F-4J needs a cockpit tub :( ...) (I'm still cleaning it up) Should I add some wires and other details?

no I don't beleive the 106 was in theatre but it's just a kit I enjoyed. And it is limited to aircraft only of the Era not just the sea. And I will be on top of everything, you can count on it!

Thanks, clears that up and yes the six is a really hot ride.

Stik, in 1966 I was sitting in my 4th grade classroom eating my baloney sandwich. I drew a/c like a maniac though, in the margins of my note books. I got in trouble in art for doing a full color side view of some generic fighter bomber. might have been a Hun.

So I took it home and Mom was upset that I had a slogan on the bomb, although I don't remember what.

Dad thought it was pretty cool.

You all understand that we got a LOT more war information back then. Life Magazine, Look, Time, Newsweek. It was all there, blood and guts and all.

Nightly news too.

...but I'm thinking about getting another 1/48 Revell F-106 if I can find it...

Which brings up a question. I do not think the -106 was ever in theater (correct me if I'm wrong), and is your GB limited to the SEA theater, or the era?

I think it's wise at this point to limit it to aircraft. To follow Stik out the door, oops he's the pusher; a successful GB is all about the host. The good ones are always present, and offer comments such as thanking people for posting, keeping the roster current, and generally doing housekeeping.

Daywalker, HvH, Stikko and Bish are some of the best I've served under.

Bondo, I know the recent re issue of the Squadron F-100 in action looks good, as does Osprey's F-100 Super Sabre Units of the Vietnam War.  Then there was a novel that I read a few years back written by a former Hun Driver, Mark Berent called Rolling Thunder. I could not put the book down. It had a vibe so real that put you there in 1966 when the story takes place.

Oh boy my book came today;  "Bury Us Upside Down". I read a couple of chapters at lunch time.

Wow, very emotional stuff. Sen. McCain wrote the forward and was in the next cell to one of these characters, the Misty pilots.

I'm really really stoked to build my TF-100 when it comes. Hannants has announced that it has shipped, so it can't be long. Box and sprue shots when it arrives.

tcepilot, you need a handle. Also i suggest you put out an order that sprue pic's are a first requirement.

Stikker, do you have any recco's for good books on the Hun, like Squadron's or others?

PS Thank you for the PM. Very nice thoughts.

Thanks BondoWink BTW, whatever happened with that GMC that you were working on with your dad for the Veteran's GB?

And yes tce, the 106 did not serve in combat in SEA, the only member of the Century Series not to do so. The F-100, RF-101, F-102, F-104, F-105, and even the F-111 all flew combat there. I dont think the F-106 ever left North America except for meets.

Its not too hard to run a Group Build. As Stikpusher stated just keep on top of it. Most of the time you will just sit back and let it run its coarse but during slow times give the thread a little bunp if it starts to fall past page five on the forum to see how people are doing. But most work done is updated completed builds. You have a subject that should bring people in. Dont be discouraged if you only start with five because as the build goes on more people join in, just take a look at my BF109 Group Build.. That one grew and grew.

I love the subject area too. Incredible variety when you really research it.The big thing will be for you to keep on top of the GB while running it and not let it fade into oblivion.

Professor, we all started here as new guys. Many new guys show up, but not all of them stay to become regular contributing members, which is too bad. I dont think it is so much bias, but the fact that a lot of new members here come here, say a few things, then stop posting. One gets out of this site pretty much what they put into it. Come in, actively participate, share your work and no matter what your skill level, you will be accepted and people here will respond. The latest format change has seen some members cease their postings and a noticible drop in forum activity. Perhaps some new blood can pump some life back into here such as with this Vietnam Air War GB.

After a little thought I am going to add an F-102 and drop the F-4. That way to will be an all Century Series build. Propeller

Send a private message to Tim Kidwell at FSM. He'll do it for you.

Thank you for including me in your GB. I think this may be the most modern jet I've done in quite a while.
