Hmm...Do you need to bend up the little tabs on those parts? Are they brackets to mount the doors to the struts?

Hey There Gentlemen, I have an interesting question to ask of you in hopes that you may enlighten me. I just received this PE set of landing gear doors I ordered off ebay. They looked nice to me and were quite inexpensive. They are manufactured by North Star Models out of Latvia. Anyway, the set does not come with any instructions.Even though it only took me moments to figure out that you glue the 2 halves together to make the door, what I cannot figure out is what the 8 little round parts with tabs are for nor where they go. I went to their website and found pics of the assembled doors yet, no clue as to where these little parts go. My initial thought was they might be mounting brackets for the brake line but that does not match up with any reference I have. Any ideas?

Nice to see some paint Joe. looks good. You'll have fun with the mottle, I'm sure you'll get it right.

Matt- Nice paintwork. Glad you found the article. What paints are you using? I don't think I have an exact rlm 77 match. Do you mean 82 and 83 colors on the Ta 152? I've seen that mentioned as well as 81/82. Hard to tell in black and white pics if the color actually is brownish or just two green shades.

Blkhwkmatt - I have to say that your revised paint job looks much better. Excellent work. As far as paint removal goes Joe is correct about removing acrylic paint. If you are removing enamel paint I use Polly S's ELO (Easy Lift Off).

Joe - Glad to see you have everything fitted, filled and sanded and are able to move on to the painting. She's looking really good. By the way Joe, is your local branch of Wells Fargo aware that they are missing a floor mat.Wink

Ok folks here's where I am right now. Just applied the RLM 75. In case anyone didn't notice I backed out of the black primer at the last minute. Going to try this mottle thing  the way you all are suggesting.

Matt: I cant remember if you are using acrylic or enamel on that bad boy. If its acrylic then its no problem. Just a little windex or in my experience alcohol pads just wipe it away. And by the way......looking good!

Reasoned: Good to see you in around these parts. Been missing your company and expertise.

So I found this article ... http://www.largescaleplanes.com/articles/article.php?aid=993  and realized that I had my colors all wrong, and the inaccuracy was driving me nuts.  So I found the correct colors (RLM 80 and RLM 83) and set to fixing it.  Here is how it turned out.  You may notice that I left the mottle the same colors, as my little artistic twist on the airplane.

I am much happier with the look now, and it looks more like all the photos that I have seen.  The next step will be to add the metalizer to the bottom wings on both the D9 and the 152, then gloss coat and decals.

Nathan T - i found the article about "yellow 6" in the info eduard newsletter, and have aquired RLM 77, think that I am going to give it a try on the wing uppers in place of the grey-violet color there now. Might have to strip off the acrylic paint that is there now.  anyone have a good method that doesnt involve brake fluid or zip strip?

Thanks for looking,

Matt

Wow stout, very impressive!  So I take it that canopy goes nowhere with the antenna wire strung the way it is?  Great looking build, hope i can do half as well on the A3

Nice build Stout! Definitely something to be proud of. Man I just love those early western front 190A schemes. I managed to get a few decals on the A-8 today, but been real busy with other things and I'm getting lazy with the pic taking.

Mustang: It was flown by Johannes Rathenow in Holland, 1942. You can Google it and find some pics. Here's the scheme from the decal sheet:

Blkhwkmatt - Excellent pair of birds. You're doing some very sweet work.

Stout - Magnificent 190!!! Truly, that is an absolutely outstanding model. The mottling is really well done. thanks for sharing that with us.

I'm making steady progress. The cockpit is in as well as the upper engine cowling. Looking to get the wings and tail planes on as well as the gun sight and front wind screen over the weekend.

Ok here is a question for all you smart people out there. The Revell of Germany Fw-190d-9 late kit is a re-boxing of which hasagawa kit? The RoG kit is very rare, even on ebay, but there are always hasa kits available. I do know that it is not the "fall of the reich 1945" kit as i have that one and it is very wrong and has raised details everywhere.

Thanks

Ok - I guess that I finally clicked on the right link and that led to knowing the RoG kit is a re-box of the Hasgawa kit ST19, with the inclusion of the big Ta-152 tail.  So any of the Hasa kits that are molded from 2003 onward are the new tool kits that have the most correct details, and several can be found on ebay, you just have to pay a pretty penny.

Stoutfella,

That is one great looking A3.  Very sweet job on the painting, looks very clean.  Almost makes me want to open the Royal Class kit and build one of those.  Although right now I am missing the Tamyia ease of construction.

Thanks for sharing!!!!

Stout, now that's a real beaut. Great job on this.

I was going to start a 109 after my 190 as well. But have decided to do my WW1 bird instead. Looks like we are both going into unusual territory.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Archangel, How lucky you were to have actually been able to meet and get to know him. I realize the fact that it was a tragic and terrible time, but still, they were just soldiers following orders for the most part. I think these old warriors could teach us something today, and they are going away now much to fast. Take care!

Greetings,

Feels like it took forever to wrap this one up, but I'm finally calling done on the A3. This one was a real pleasure all around, other than waiting three weeks for wheels Stick out tongue

But the kit was up to the usual Tamiya standards and practically fell together, and I finally feel like I'm getting a clue with the airbrush. I've battled my Paasche Talon for the last few years, but fell in love with my new Iwata HP-CS after handling the mottle camo on this one.

The Eagle Strike decals went down nicely. The only clinker was that the key for the stencils didn't match the letters on the decal sheet, i.e., where the key might call for the decal marked "C", it really should have been "R." Confusing until I figured out what was happening. I was able to cross-reference the Tamiya instructions and think I got the stencils in the right places.

I was planning to dive right into a 109 after this, but I've gotten sidetracked on a Tamiya Sherman tank kit and having a lot of fun with it. Never built much armor in the past and nothing since a German halftrack back in the 70s. Nice change of pace.

Anyway, here are some pics of the Butcher Bird:

Cheers,

Stoutfella

Very nice paint work!! At first I wasn't very crazy about those long wings on the Ta but the more I see and especially now in color, I'm changing my tune!

Thats the way I felt about D-9's! Now you jokers have me adding a D-9 to my list for this GB potentially providing I finish my A-8/ R-2 in time. If I add a Ta-152 there's a good probability that the GB will be extended!!!!!

Ohhh nice paint work. The great lines of the Ta152 come alive with paint. Interesting how you changed the upper wing color on the Dora. I know Eagle Cals calls for rlm 76, but I believe it was actually thought to be a light gray primer, or rlm 77, which is basically like rlm 76, but without any blue tint. The montly newletter that Eduard puts out had a great write up about these large tailed doras and their colors, using the Japo book as reference. They are all available on their website to view. I think this one was just a few months back. I have a few color shots of this wing camo combination on late war 190s I can share later. Either way your painting awesome and I love the feehand work.

Nathan T,

Thanks for the comments and info, I did not know that Eduard had a newsletter.  Thanks for the tip.  It was a good day for painting, I think that my garage being around 35 - 40 degrees helped somewhat, but not sure.  Some days are just better than others when the airbrush is concerned.

Snow day update:  Was able to get some work done around shoveling the walk.  Sanded and trimmed the leading  edges of the D9, added the cowling ring and flaps, completed the cockpit and looked to paint.  On the 152 got the glass masked and glued in place and was set to paint.

Eudards instructions call for RLM 76 on the sides, bottom and wing tops, along with the brown violet.  Looked something like this:

I didn't think that it looked right so went back over the RLM 76 with RLM 84 (gray blue).  Here is a shot of the inprogress.

So after some thought this is what I came up with. ( And after that there are no known pictures of this bird)

Here are some shots of the Ta-152:

Another group shot:

thanks for looking.

Rigidrider

I've got the same kit, and was saving for a special build. My ex girlfriends Grand dad was a luftwaffe pilot and flew the 190 "A", not sure which varriant, but she had told me that she would try to get me the info and if possible , pictures but I gave up on that a few years ago... Never heard from her again and Granddad has passed on many moons ago. She was born in Germany in 1960 and came here as a very little girl, Oh well... I'll build it some day.  By the way, glad to have you here and cant wait to see some WIP pics! I think you'll find a very talanted and skilled group of builders here.

Until I came across the warpage problems with the Dragon kit, I wanted to build the FW-190 representing Oscar Boesch bird, having meet him on numerous occassions. We had some great conversations, he would always joke that he too should be an American Ace having brought down 8 Focke Wulfs. Sadly he passed away last June.
