Dflu: Better safe than sorry! Wink The pre- (or post?) shading on the 76 looks really nice!

Joe: Most impressive work as always! The finish is just about as perfect as you can get! Please post a link to the build thread once you start on the P-47...

Joe(lawdog):Man you really blew right through that one with Fermis speed!! I've gotta hand it to you man, you really have your weathering skills down along with the paint. It's a good looking build with an awesome base. Thanks for being a part of this group build buddy. I'll get you down in the intro pronto!

dflu:Outstanding work so far! I used to not preshade or apply a dark base but tend to do so more now. Sets a model apart from the "toy" like feature you described.

Thanks guys.  SS, I'll do a build thread on the Jug in aircraft section.  I should be starting it soon.  I'm  debating the 56th subject I want to build and perhaps adding Ultracast wheels and a seat.

Funny enough, Joe, I just started my Trumpy P-47 (1/32)...I'm doing Raid Hot Mamma. Can't wait to see your build thread!

Ok. Need you guys and gals now. I put down the light green and I'm not 100% sure I like it half as much as I should. Mind you, this is the fourth attempt. I sprayed over it and re-did it 3 or 4 times and this was the best I could do...I don't know...something just doesn't seem right. Maybe getting the dark green on and some clears and filters will bring it together?

HELP!! Honest thoughts please!!!

What an excellent whirlwind of activity from you gentlemen. Just great stuff all around. Let's see if I can cover everyone with some well deserved kudos.

handi: The flaps do indeed look great. Certainly adds to the quality of your build.

Greg: It's just excellent to see some progress from you and to see you getting some bench time. Your progress looks really good. I had to have a chuckle with you concerning the missing tail planes. Getting old is such a delight. I have yet to complete a model without an "Oh Crap" moment.

John: The snake plane is looking better and better with each progress post. Love what your doing.

Joe: Magnificent 190. I really like the base you made for it. Your whole compilation is just beautifully done. As always, it is just an absolute pleasure to witness your builds and pick up a sweet little trick along the way. Thank you for sharing your skills and techniques with us.

dflu: Your approach seems to have produced some really nice effects. Nicely done.

Hey dflu, I guess I'm not grasping exactly what's making you feel ill at ease with your green paint job. Is it the color? The coverage? or maybe the mottling? It appears rather nicely done to me being as it is pre other colors and weathering. I'm sure once you get those other steps done it will come around to your liking.

My issue is the molting pattern. The color is annoying me because apparently it's a gloss of semi-gloss...and I absolutely HATE that...but that will be fixed...

I just did not care for the mottling so I went back upstairs and hit it with some 76 to cover up the ugliness.

Going to start over and try to get something along the lines of this:

I know where you're at dflu, or at least the situation. The RLM 83 at first never sat well with me but after a wash and a sunbleaching it turned out well for me. As far as the camo pattern, I dont know if I have any JV44 color plates or not. Will have to check.

falconmod

Got some time on the bench this weekend and got some more decals on the 190.  Almost done with the top side decals, can't wait to get some dull coat on her. Big Smile

John

Sorry I missed this John! This looks great so far man! Snake motif really adds alot of flavor here!

Dflu: I really liked the mottling TBH, but she's looking great without it as well... I think I have a few pics of JV44 Doras in my 190 bible. If I find something I'll post it here...

Well thanks everyone. I just wasn't appealing to my eye, but I think I've got it in order now

I put the mottle down and then went over it with highly diluted RLM 76 to fade it out. I think I have it where I will like it after topcoats etc. blend things in.

Thoughts?

Nice work. Cant' wait to see it all come together. Here's the real Red 1 in case you haven't seen:

I think you've captured the mottling well.

It's shocking to see the condition of the Luftwaffe aircraft at the end of the war. Just a few short yrs before they was the best air force in the world. I have read pilot interviews and they talk about the ground crews having there  planes cleaned and polished on pilot stated that he could get 6 mph more out of his polished 109. I get that they was bombed into the stone age practically by 1945'

Man do I want those Dora books 1 and 2 just got to find them on on sale. And I see a few on the  TA-152 but I don't think they have the amount or volume as the Dora 1&2 but there also a bit cheaper.

Nathan - what 190 books do you have?  Are those photos from the Jerry Crandall Dora books?

Some of them are yes. I don't have either book, but I've gotten these pics elsewhere.

Thanks for the pictures, Nathan. Very interesting and informative too. Judging from what I can see I think my mottle work will be close enough lol. I also think it will come together more with the other colors and weathering to tie it all in.

Now...according to the experts the tops of the wings are RLM 74/75 and not 82/83 as called out by Montex and the kit instructions. So I'm going to have to address that it seems :D Fun times.

I don't know man. Compare the shades of the wing tops to the fuselage in the pics above I posted. They look so similar a perfect argument could be made for either color combo. I wouldn't change it. The thing is, you rarely get to hear why Jerry says this or that. He is speculating just like the rest of us, using the same info.

17th time the charm? Lol...

I tinkered with it again. I'm done now...sigh...I think this is more along the lines of what I'm looking for.

Now I just need to get the wings the right color....or....

Nathan, I agree. I think there is a lot of speculation on these things. I really don't know what I am doing to do at the moment. I'm looking at a lot of builds and I'm seeing it both ways. That green though...just so stark...I actually think the 74/75 combo will be more pleasing to my eye...sigh....I'm stuck right now on this decision.

That camo paint job keeps getting better and better!

I'd stick to the current paint job, but if the green really is too strong in your opinion, go ahead and change it to something that looks better to you (It's your model after all). I personally love that rich green, but everyone has his own opinion on that...

Oh, I'm not changing it again. It's as good as I am going to get at this point. And I really do think it's going to work well once blended it.

I had to go with my instinct and go the 74/75 route on the wings. I got the first color on last night. Hope to get the rest on today sometime.
