Thanks for the kudos good buddy Nathan. The light is an ongoing issue between my camera and the lighting I have. Lemme see if I can work with that a little more.

Just finished shooting the RLM 02 on the main wing spar after installing all of the photoetch along the back wall. As for the reverse building order its a bass ackwards kit so I'm building bass ackwards!!!!! Also got the wash on!

Cowling covers?? Eduard set 48 556 covers that one brutha!! I plan on painting the whole nose section separate from the fuselage. Same paints same wash same clear. Should turn out ok at least with the way I'm planning. I havent even mounted the cowl machine guns yet. That will come when I put the engine on. As far as planning ahead with the Eduard kit.....you have to plan that far ahead!! Test fit, test fit and more test fit! I'm finding that this is a very precision assy kit but if paid attention to will yield very good results!!!

Idea That may be a very good idea.  I haven't thought that far ahead yet.  I was thinking of seeing how much the cowling covers before making any decisions on paint.  I like to keep masking to a minimum.

Buckeye

Joe, I'm just glad several people here posted about what to look for in these kits!  The next step I'm "looking forward to" is mounting the engine. LOL  I have some painting and assembly to do before that fun.

Mike

You got that right Mike! I'm finding out stuff along the way even still. I have an idea about that engine your are talking about. I am going to build the back end of the plane minus landing gear, paint it, decal and wash and go ahead with the finish on it , THEN start mounting the engine. Just too much stuff to mask!! Thats my plan so far.

Ditto, I'm with Mike!! You just cant really get this kind of detailed information about how a kit goes together from just about any review. Build logs are priceless and way more valuable to me as a builder that an "in-box" review where everything looks accurate and appears that it will go together well.

Mike - Looks like you're coming along nicely. Sorry to hear you're struggling with it. Man, between you and Joe I'm getting a bit hincky about delving into my Eduard 1/48 A-8.

Thank you one and all... I guess like I said, I'm blessed with a loving understanding wife who doesn't grump too much along with the fact that she works weekends coupled with no kids (all grown) and its winter so for me that translates into ALOT of build time. Like I said and Mustang can confirm, I was really excited and ready to build 190s. The 109 is a close second with me, but The 190 still gets my vote. Gonna try to build a couple more, but not till soon after another GB commitment. Will be watching till then for further developments from all of you. Some very nice builds taking place here!

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you WJT. Got back from a trip to Dallas on Friday and caught this nasty cold or whatever it is and been out for a little bit. Well, here she is, completed. Again the first story I read was that The pilot was unknown, but that at the end of hostilities he was seen setting his aircraft down in an open field, powering down and just walking away. I later found a picture of the tail section only, laying on an airbase in Germany about 2 months after the war with this works no. on it, and heard somewhere of a "white 3 " that crashed on takeoff in Denmark. So I chose to go with the first story I found while researching this aircraft.  Any way... I have commited to another GB, but when finished I intend to do another here as soon as possible. Looking forward to all the great work going on here, Love those 190s!

Back soon...

Doug

Got some more work done on my Eduard A-8.  I used the fuselage locating points to make sure the weapons bay was aligned correctly and the fuselage halves fit nicely.  This hasn't been my favorite kit.  The sprue attachment points are numerous and thick and the parts have heavy mold lines that need to be removed.  The wing halves fought me the entire way but I think I have those tamed now.  Guess I've been spoiled with Tamiya kits.Stick out tongue

Older Hase decals are kinda thick, plus, thats alot of decal area to weather. Just thought I'd paint em on. Its really not that tough to do. Although I had a tough time burnishing the 40mm Tamiya tape down. So it left some bleed through.

Stoutfella, that pit is looking great.

nathan, looking good. Is there a reason you decided not to use the decals on the nose.

Ok, finally got off my rear and did some masking. Here's the method:

I used the decals as a template, then placed tracing paper over them and traced the outline. I then placed my making tape on top of this as its much easier to cut over and to peel the tape off of, as opposed to decal paper.

Get yourself a swivel blade:

Fit is good:

Also masked the black stripe on the sides, along with the top half of the fuselage cross:

As for the A-8, finished masking the bands:

...Paint tonight!

Nice cockpit. Good call on the AM wheels, as this Tamiya kit suffers from gear issues.

Stoutfella - Nicely done. Looks like your off to an excellent start. I strongly agree about Tamiya kits. Just nice to put together a kit that is pretty much hassle free.

Greetings,

Moving along on the cockpit. It's so very, very nice to be back in Tamiya-land after struggling through my last two builds. This just feels so effortless.

Started by spraying cockpit and other inside surfaces with Tamiya flat black, followed by a thin spray of MM acrylic RLM 02. Gives it a nice, uneven look with some depth that doesn't show up much in the pics (hat tip to Doogs for detailing this technique).

I did go ahead and order a set of Ultracast wheels. Otherwise, I think this one will be out of the box except for belts and decals.

I've already got the fuselage together and am starting wing assembly. Updates to come.

Cheers,

Stoutfella
