Dflu: Those stripes look perfect! Very impressive stuff!

Mike: Your shimming looks very promising!

Here's a look at the shimming of the fit for the engine on the big A-8:

That's .020" x .040" microstrip laid in with superglue. A little filing and adzing to finalise the fit, and I can superglue the unit in place, hopefully bringing it close enough for putty to now do the job (though one side is 1mm or more out of lateral alignment too, which will be "interesting" to correct/hide...

And here's the Italeri boxing of the Trimaster Ta-152:

I had meant to get the cockpit whacked together today, but spent most of the afternoon grading papers and pushing along other kits... I *might* cut-sprue on this one before I turn in tonight!

AWESOME! I bought this one several years ago, and am savouring the anticipation of building it! That's some gorgeous spraying...

Evening gentlemen. Let the white dry just long enough to hold up to tape. I've wanted to do this scheme for years and I was excited to get to masking and taping so I could sense the satisfaction of pulling the tape off.

I decided to forgo the usual shading routine on this one. I'm going for a fairly clean build here and will keep it to a little post-shading and some modest washes just to bring out the detail.

A couple of minor touch-ups is all I'm faced with before moving topside.

Thanks, Nathan -- I was guessing it would be 81 Braunviolet, it sure looks brown in some builds! They're also describing a pale grey for the underside but my guess is either 76 or the mysterious 84 which seems to be a close match for RAF Sky... Thanks re the instrument shroud, I can crack on with the big A-8 soon and the canopy will be the next to be dealt with as soon as I have the engine seated. I'm hoping to glue it into place today. No, the Ta-152 doesn't have the plug to indicate the back of the engine, unfortunately, there's a frame brace in that area but that's it. Is there an AM resin insert, I wonder???

I have 83 in stock but have been trying to get hold of 82 for ages. I'll see if I can get 81 in the Acryl range, and I have a mixing ratio for 82.

Cheers, M/TB379

Cockpit is entirely rlm 66 Thunderbolt. As far as the RLM colors for the Ta 152, its RLM 82 light green and rlm 81 brown violet. Just remember, that RLM 81 had a few different shades, some more green, so many companies will tell you it was painted in 82 and 83, which I guess is ok too. Does the Italeri re-box kit come with an engine plug? I built the Dragon boxing of the Ta152 H-1 2 years ago and it was a sweet kit given its old age.

I'd be looking for the pre-printed self-adhesive metal type, and at 1:48 I know they'll be much simpler than the set I put together for my 1:32 Fw 190... I'm sure they're available, I seem to remember seeing them somewhere online...

What kind of belts are you thinking about? Fabric or PE? I'm sure it's gonna be a lovely build to watch, no matte rwhat you decide on!

Greg -- "senior member" -- (blush) -- well, I have been in kits since I was five years old, and have never been "out of the hobby" at any time, despite slow years, so I guess that's a lot of experience!

I'll try to make a start on the Ta-152 cockpit today, not sure if I'll hang around for etched belts, but I could put in an order for some generic Luft harness along with the mask set for this bird...

Hey Blackdog, looks like some kind of auto-correct software kinda interfered with what you wanted to write there. Just sayin'... Wink

Double I get mine from the phony shop it's lacquer base lays down nice and Disney toll up when sanding very smooth. If you can get famous paint maybe they can order it for you. Depending on e.p.a. laws.

Dflu 78 getting to the part I like the painting.

Thunder    I would really like to see that Tristan build lost of nice reviews on them. I guess you can be tough also.

Welcome aboard, Mike!!! (funny a newbie (me), welcoming a senior member (you), no?

Clemens, ok, you talked me into it. I'll give it a go. (re decanting Tamiya primer)

Dflu: That primer coat looks great! I have to give it a go as well at some point, but I don't know how to thin the Tamiya primer. Is it Lacquer based? My bottle is labelled in Japanese only, so I can't read it...

Greg: Decanting isn't that hard a all. Simply take an empty paint jar (a big one), attach a sjort hose to the nozzle of the spray can and spray right into the jar. put a toothpick into the paint to help all to get rid of all the excess gas in the paint and wait a bit. then simply screw the lid onto the jar and you're ready to go.

Clemens and Joe, thanks for the advice, mates. I'll get that a go then.

Joe, not sure if the front end will end up opened up or closed yet. I am proceeding as if something will be opened though.

dflu and anyone re Tamiya primer, where are folks finding this stuff in bottles? I've only been able to find the aerosol. Really like it but don't like shooting out of spray cans and I've not the patience to decant pain.

I'll grab a box shot hopefully tomorrow, and get started asap. While I have the 70, 66 and 02 in the AB I might as well pre-paint props, cockpits and gear bays for a couple more Bf 109s on the shelf, and get the cockpit ready on my entry for the Stuka GB -- they're all the same paints!

M/TB379

PS: What colour is the instrument shroud under the windscreen on the 190? 66 or straight black??

Mustang -- :-) you talked me into it (wasn't hard...) I've want5ed to try my hand at a Trimaster kit for years, I have several in the stash in one form or another, so this'll be an interesting introduction. It looks like the standard ancillary paintjob -- 66 interior, 02 gear bays and struts, 70 prop and spinner, and the camo schemes in the kit are interesting, Green 1 and Yellow 1. The paints are given in FS equivalents so I'll need to round up the actual RLMs if known...

Greg
Attaching it looks to be quite an adventure. Not sure whether to start painting the exterior of the main body (less the cowling) before mounting the engine, or what

Hey Greg. I usually paint mine that way when I display an engine. If you want to close her up then simply glue all the panels together with white glue to check the fit and then once the fit issues are straightened out then glue it all together and paint your bird. If it's going to be opened up I always leave the nose off. There aint nothing worse to me than trying to mask around the engine and all that stuff while I'm painting because its just too much stuff to look out for. I reduce my overall stress level which allows me to enjoy what I'm doing a little bit more by avoiding that kind of thing.  Are you opening it up or closing it?

I just didn't know it was easily accessible... I'm seriously considering fielding it for this GB!

Ok you can't say something like that in here and get by with it. lol. Bring it on Thunder! Would love to see it in here!

dflu -- Tamiya Surface Primer, that sounds good -- what's the product code? If it can be put conventionally through the AB, that's great. The D-9 is looking GREAT, BTW!

Today I discovered the Italeri edition of the Trimaster Ta-152 H-1 in my stash, I knew it was rhere, I just didn't know it was easily accessible... I'm seriously considering fielding it for this GB!

It was an airbrushing kind of night. I've been using Mr. Finishing Surfacer as of late, but I grabbed some Tamiya Surface Primer (in the bottle, not the spray) and figured I'd give that a try. Will likely be converting. I like Mr. Surfacer, but I always have some hiccups with it being grainy around wing roots...the Tamiya stuff went down silky smooth.

I let that dry a couple of hours and the laid down the white in preparation for masking the stripes and insignia etc.

I'd suggest you glue it in place with some white glue and build the cowling. Then dry-fit the cowling to the fuselage and sort out any fit issues that might occur. Once you're happy with the fit of the front end, you can either remove the engine and cowling and paint them separately (probably the best thing to do if you want to display her opened up) or permanently attach both using proper plastic glue

I hope this helps.... Wink

Joe and Joe, thanks for the encouragement. :)

Not sure about a "flurry' of build activity, but there are some scattered showers occurring. Just at a point where nothing really to post pics of. Lots of head scratching coming up, as in 'what do I do next?' (now building the powerplant). Attaching it looks to be quite an adventure. Not sure whether to start painting the exterior of the main body (less the cowling) before mounting the engine, or what. That sort of thing. (I think that's how I've seen you guys do it??)
