the etc rack on the dora is different than the A-8. Hang on Jester, I'll see what I got. You still trying to make some brackets?

Not the best pics but you can see it looks like what you showed us earlier only the ends of the brackets you made should be pointy.

Ah ha!! Thanks Nathan!! I feel like I am headed in the right direction with it, just want to make is somewhat close. I really dont want it to be absurdly off from the real deal. Making the ends of what I have pointed should be fairly easy to do.

Bish

Just one minor small point. The pitot is in the wrong place for an A-6.

Thanks for all the compliments. You guys are far too kind.  Bish, nice eye!  I was wondering why the box art and decal placement profile in the instruction sheet show the pitot tube just outboard of the starboard outer cannon, but the instructions sequence showed it at the wingtip. The plastic had the corresponding hole at the wingtip, so I assumed the kit plastic was correct and the others were erroneous.  I guess I'm not that 190 savvy.  Anyways, I made the easy correction...

Nathan, reference my finish coat, I use good old fashioned Testor's Dull Coat thinned with Lacquer thinner.   I don't like a totally dead flat finish and prefer an ever so slight sheen.  For this I mix in a little bit of Testor's Gloss until it looks right to me.  Truthfully I have yet to find a better product for this.

Regarding the base, its a cheap wooden plaque I bought for a few bucks at a local craft store for which I then stained.  The ground work is a piece of notebook backside which I cut and airbrushed to resemble a concrete tarmac.  I drew the lines in with a pencil.  The dirt is well.....real dirt which I keep on hand in a jar.  I have sand too for bases that will require this effect.  The grass and ballast are from my LHS which is for model railroading.  I attach all of this with Elmer's glue slapped down with a wide paint brush.  The tire ruts are made with an old white Testor's paint brush which I carved in the glue as it started to dry.

Joe

Yes...and so retarded for Eduard to leave out these two simple pieces. But then again, not so bad to scratch em out.

Welcome to the group build Allen. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I am back in Corpus as of last night and will return to Dallas again next week. Lemme know what you want to build and I'll enter it in on the opening post, Joe

Hi Joe,

Put me down for a Tamiya 1/48 A3 please.  Will sort out the details of what bird soon.

Lawdog

Incredible work - absolutely incredible!

Thanks for the dull coat tips Joe. As far as the pitot, Hase uses the same wing for the A-5 on, only using different inserts here and there, Thats why there was an extra hole at the tip, and I'm guessing the instructions got printed wrong. Nice save though. For me, its oil wash time this weekend. Fun and messy.

Thats funny Joe as Eduard has made a similiar mistake on the D9's. The instructions show it going in the same place you have yours but the kit wing has a hole molded for out near the outer wing tip which I'm guessing is the correct place. Need to make sure on that before I mount it....

Well, calling the drop tank and mount done. Will prime it up tomorrow and throw some paint at it. I took 2 pieces of 1x2.5mm styrene stock and wrapped them around my metal file vise. Run this over a candle just enough to form the strip but not start melting it. Then I took a razor saw and cut 2 notches in the corresponding locations to the mounts on the fuel tank into the bottom of the ETC rack and glued the pieces there. Shortened them up a bit and filed them to a point as seen in the pics. Drilled some holes in the mounting points on the tank and glued some small gauge wire connecting to each mounting bracket tip. Its nowhere near perfect, but I am pleased with it.

And here it is just pinned to the aircraft...

As to why I did not do this before paint, I do not know. Probably would have been a heck of a lot easier but oh well.  Thanks Nathan once again for posting up those pics!

No worries Joe. Thats one advantage of shareing your pics. Other people can see something you can't. The pitot on mine was fixed to the wing, at the end so i had to remove and drill a hoe in the correct place for the metal one. Thats probably why i noticed it.

Glad it was a nice easy fix. Mine's all done, just going to get my F-86 finished for the My First Time GB and then get some photo's.

Hey Eric, I think you've done a rather admirable job on your drop tank. Very well done

I shot my first primer coat (Tamiya Gray) and I'm now fixing a few panel lines and such. Overall I was quite pleased with how things looked after the primer went on. But alas, I did have some touch up to do. I'll get some pics up tomorrow.

Allen, Nice choice on the Tamiya A-3. Looking forward to your progress.

Thanks for having me in the group build. I really enjoyed it.  Joe R- I may come back with my Eduard A-5 in Egon Mayer's JG2 markings before the GB ends.  I just have to decide whether or not I want to subject myself to that torture.  I think I would rather get a root canal.

Sorry Joe. Missed this part of your comment. Man you aint kiddin with the Eduard stuff. The warped ones are an extra challenge!! Looking forward to seeing you back if you decide to go the Eduard route. Thank you very much for your participation and don't be a stranger pal, Joe (the other one of the three of us here)

LolStick out tongue

Small update but a time consuming one. I try to add a little detail to the landing gear on all my ac builds. Using the In Action book on the Dora, I added some brake lines and some electrical lines to the struts and actuators. Used some lamp wire for all of it. Also added what looks like a coil spring on one of the hydraulics. All painted up and ready for some detail painting and a wash tomorrow.

Decals soon I hope. Trying to decide if I want to do Dortenmanns yellow 1 which does not have the IV Gruppe wave or the black 1 which does. I kinda like the wave, but I kinda like the yellow number. Decisions decisions......

I think we need some sort of numbering system. Joe 1, Joe 2 etc. Either that or a poll to re name them.

Any ideas.

Eric - Nice work on the wiring.

A couple of pics of the initial primer coat. The major issue I need to correct is to rescribe the wing root bottom front. This is proving to be a bit of a challenge in getting both sides to match.

Heres the pics of the finished Fw 190A-6. This is the same aircraft as Lawdogs excellent build and he already gave a great history of that. To finish it off, i use pro modeller wash for the panel lines and lightly went over with AK's streaking grime.

All in all this was a nice build. As you can see, its not quite as well detailed as Lawdogs, some of the final detail on the engine panel's is not there. It went together really well, with very little filler needed. The only real issue was the dimensions, being to long. But this was only noticed because of the nose decals.

Anyway, here it is.

Joe, thanks for running a great GB. I really wish i could build another, but as always there are so many great GB's on here, my bench is pretty fully booked. I look forward to round 2 at some point.

Well done Bish!! Great save on the short decals, definitely cant tell there was ever a problem from the pics. It looks right at home on that nicely done base too, just the right size for whats going on!!

Looks like you've got a nice good primered base to start from Joe!! In the pic, is that a crack just to the right of the left wheel well or just the way the light is catching a panel?

Bish - That is extremely well done. You have done a magnificent job on your Butcher Bird. Not to mention the awesome base and figures. Bish it has been an absolute pleasure to participate in this GB with you. I'm well aware of your GB commitments but, I do hope you continue to check in with us and offer some of your valued insight. Now, if I can just get mine finished up so I can get back to my Tiger for the Steel Cats GB.

Eric - Good God Man, Don't freak me out like that again!!! Once I got my pulse down to normal I rechecked my photo and indeed it is the light playing off the detail in front the bomb rack. Where's my Prozac.

Jester, you're just a scratch buildin machine! Nice work, the brake lines and actuators add alot to the build. I get lazy and only add that stuff once in a while. Joe Rix, looks nice...awaiting some paint now.

Bish- You almost snuck this one by me. Didn't know you were so close to finishing. That just looks amazing, specially for a scale I'm not used too. The decals and paint look awesome. Adding the Dio just puts the icing on the cake. You've obviously done these before, I would have a tough time getting a scene to look that real. Hope you stick around awhile.

I got all my oil weathering finished. All thats left is some exhaust stains and alittle post-shading. Too lazy to post pics tonite, hopefully tomorrow.

Thanks all. Joe, i will deffinatly keep checking in. I keep popping into the Steel cats every now and again to see the great work there.

Nathan, i have been buil;ding dio's for about 25 years. Very early on i decided that how i wanted my builds, and now all my 72nd aircraft and 35th armour are built that way. I have been improveing the aircraft bases over the last few yers, now i am at a point where i am really happy with them. Now need to work on my armour bases, which can be a bit more detailed.
