mustang1989

Thank you very much for your participation and don't be a stranger pal, Joe (the other one of the three of us here)

I did notice there were a lot of Joe's in the group build...Whistling

I think we need some sort of numbering system. Joe 1, Joe 2 etc. Either that or a poll to re name them.

Any ideas.

You can call me anything you want....except late for dinner.  Bish, incredible work!. I see you went with the black spinner ehh?  The figures are a nice touch too, they add a sense of scale to the plane.

Bish: You know I really have to hand to you buddy as well as the other 72nd scalers in the GB here. You all are doing a job apart from the rest of us. Whatever we all are doing in 48th scale or bigger you all are accomplishing in a teenier scale. Great job and great diroma. I've got you in the intro post buddy. Stay tuned because my slowpoke butt will be followiing up with some updates after this month. Thanks for your input, expertise and photos pal. Don't be a stranger and feel free to join in with another one. Still waiting on my D-9 to get here.

Jester: Man I have to say that gear detail is awesome! Thought I had mastered the spring detail with a watch band retainer spring in 24th scale and here comes this "clown" in 48th scale showing me up. Nice job Eric.

Joe Rix:Excellent job on the 72nd scale job. You, like Bish, are among the guys I was referring to a couple of posts back. Great job on that small plane. Should be ready for that show in Grand Junction in a heartbeat pal.

Looks like a nice GB to join!

I have been steadily building up my stash of FW-190's the past year and am itching to build one. I have this collection of 1/48's, there,s also a A-4 Hasa and a 1/32 A-5 Hasa in the mail

Any suggestions ?

Welcome to the Group Build NeedBeer! I don't know what to tell you on the suggestions. All I know is I'm building an Eduard right now and it has been a challenge so far in terms of precision and for me ....warpage. The end results are worth the effort though. There are a couple of fit issues with the Dragon kits from what I've seen. My next Fw190 will definitely be a Tamiya and thats for sure. Some inaccuracies but the kit just falls together. Don't know too much about the Hasegawa 190 line up.  You do have a nice looking collection though. Any of those will work. Looking forward to having you in here bud, Joe

Hey Jester. Any more pics of the latest update to the landing gear. What exactly did you use for the spring?

No more updates yet mustang. I used some 10 or 12 gauge speaker wire strands. Strip the insualtion and you have tons in one small piece. I made one complete wrap around one end of the cylinder and tacked it with a tiny bit of CA then just wrapped to the other end leaving a bit of space between each coil. I use the same stuff for tension springs on aerials as well. Just wrap it tightly around my smallest drill bit and your good to go!! Thanks for the compliments on the detail!!

I can highly recommend the Hasegawa 190 kits. I'm building 2 of them right now and they practically build themselves, and have no accuracy issues. Only problem is the decals are kind of thick on the older kits.

Thanks for feedback guys!

Must say I'm leaning towards a Hase kit, probably because they are the newest additions, thanks to some generous prices from Hannants and HLJ recently

Then there's the Eduard's with all the pe and masks ...... They look good,...

The Dragons also look good with some PE included ....

Then maybe I'll cut my teeth on the ARiI first, looks nice and simple....

and gradually work my way through them all ....

Decision time!

Alright, I finally have some teaser pics worthy of posting. Canopys and head armor attached tonite, along with EZ line thread for the antenna. I still have to give everything a once over to check for mistakes, but they are basically ready for display.

...And the bench is looking mighty clean at the moment. Feels good to be finishing up a buch of projects.

I'll probably add a little pigments here and there, and then Mustang, I'll hand em over to you!

Thanks Matt. Hows the long-nose coming?

Not too much longer and they will be done!  They are actually both a bit further on than these shots show.

Nathan - Man oh Man! Nathan, Those are marvelous. You have certainly demonstrated some first rate skill and talent. Those are just so well detailed and painted that you definitely leave me in awe. Very nice Yak also. Which kit is that?

Matt - Here I was setting up to glorify Nathan when you up and lay those 2 beauties on me. Excellent work indeed. What strikes me is your tail bands. You've done a stunning job on those. Just simply great looking models your turning out there.

Must step back now as I am suffering from sensory overload.

Thanks Joe and Doug. Joe the Yak 1b is the Accurate Miniatures kit in 48th. I'm doing it for the '43 GB so theres proof I'm fullfilling my commitments, haha!

Matt- Saaaweeettt! Makes me want to go stare at my -H on the shelf and drool. Hey how did you find the clear parts on the Dragon kit. My rear canopy was all distorted, so I had to dip it in future. Question on both kits-Did you use the kit decals, or paint on that KG band?

Wow, turn your head for a second and look at all these build updates!!!

Nathan-Cant say enough about your bench, beautiful!! Love what you did with the stripes on the nose ! The little details such as the spills on the drop tank really add up!

Matt- Man look at those looooooong wings!! Looks like the offspring off a 190 and a U2!! I'm guessing those engine panels will remain open? I really like the NMF of the wing bottoms on both of them. I may have to subject myself to further torture and build another Eduard long nose!

This group build is really churning out some fantastic 190's!!!

Nathan; Those look great man. Like Eric said. You turn you head for a couple of minutes and BAM! There are a couple more projects done! You guys shot way ahead of me. I have some bench time coming up tomorrow morning so its back to the grindstone hard core before next Monday hits and I'll be back in Dallas for one day. Almost done with this stuff!

Matt: Man those long noses have definitely grown on me. I should be getting my D-9 sometime next week. Ordered it from a hobby shop in  Houston when I was there a couple of weeks ago. Since they didn't have in stock they are shipping it to me with free shipping. Anyhow your two look great! How you guys can churn this stuff out in the short time you do is beyond me. I havent perfected my skills to that quickness yet.

Jester: Right you are Eric! Some awesome stuff going on in here by all of you guys. I should be fully back into the swing of things after my class next week. Looking forward to the break from that so I can divert alot more attention to my plane and this thread.

Joe, Nathan, Eric and Mustang, thanks for the kind words.  Nathan, I always dip the clear parts in future but I will say that the Dragon parts were rather thick and a bit distorted.  The real test will be when I go to remove the masking from them and hope for no residue.

The Fuselage bands are decals on the 152 and paint on the D-9.  Would have painted the D-9 bands earlier, but for some reason I thought that the decals had the bands in the Eduard kit as well.  Anyway, when masking the bands, I bit the bullet and bought the 6mm Tamiya tape from Hobby Lobby, gotta say I love that stuff, will be using it for everything in the future.

After the decals went on (the Dragon decals were rather thick, but did respond to several applications of solv-a-set) I added another coat of Future let that cure for a few days then added a wash of artists oils to accent the panel lines and "dirty" it up a bit.  The oils take several days to dry, so I had some time to work on the drop tank for the D-9 ( pics will come with the complete kit).  After that, I sprayed on the exhaust staining along the wing roots , guns with really diluted flat black with a few drops of brown.  Next step is the flat coat and removing the masks and getting all the little bits attached.

Good info Matt. Nice job masking and painting the tail band. I've never seen an Eduard kit that includes the decals for any band now that you mention it. Glad the old Dragon decals worked for you. I chickened out and used some eagle cals for my 152. (They actually came in the kit I got off ebay so why not?) Can't wait too see em without the mask on and all flat coated.

Calling these done!  Overall I am pleased with the outcome, but there are several things that I will correct on the next Ta-152 that I will build.  At any rate here are the pictures:

Here is the Fw-190 D-9:

And here are a few pictures of the two together:

Thanks for looking, all comments and critiques are more than welcome.

Well I've satisfied my other commitments and befor the weather stabilizes and the "Honey Do" list kicks into high gear, I'm going to start my next attempt. This will be a FwA-6 of II/gp Jg51 Orel airfield (Kursk) Eastern front July 1943 Flown by Oberfeldwebel (Master Sgt) Josef "Pepi" Jennewein.

Most pictures show him in an Fw190 A4 (Yellow 5) but when he force landed behind enemy lines after air combat during the Battle of Kursk,(never to be heard from again) He was flying an Fw190A-6 "Black 7" wr#550181.

The kit is a Hasagawa 1/32 Fw 190 with several variants available. A Tru-Detail resin pit and Strike Eagle decals.

Thanks

Doug

Great to see your finished builds Matt. Really stunning. The open panels are a nice touch on both and you did a great job detailing the engines and interiors. What sort of things didn't you like about the Dragon kit? I'd build another one again, but I think I'd still want some AM thrown at it again, and that gets spendy....Both paint jobs turned out awesome, and the weathering and exhaust stains are right on. Have you thought of adding antenna wires? What did you use for a final flat coat?
