Hey all. First off I would go with the blue/green color especially after viewing Nathan T's picture. Thats gonna be a unique color there Joe. Different than alot of 190's I see. Interesting subject there for sure.

Secondly, Doug that 190 looks awesome! The engine area looks great. One thing I like to do alot of is show the powerplant off a little on my builds. Maybe its the mechanic in me that likes to "open the hood" and make the model look a little busier because I just love showing the extra detail. Lookin forward to seeing this one come along.

Thanks Guys... I wish sometime I could do more but my fat fingers dont allow! I had to get used to using tweezers and such, But we do what we can. Even the 48s are starting to get smaller(Grin).

Joe, I know what you mean, I've decided to leave cowling open also. I've worked with mechanical equip all my life(Material handling) and really can appreciate a well designed and built machine.

The only thing I wish I had done is bought some resin guns and brass barrels. Not likeing the hardware...May still do it ..Thanks again

Well come on and lets do it. Youre still at a point to do it without regretting not doing it later. This is gonna look good!

Gentlemen, Thanks for the excellent analysis on the camo colors. You all are definitely top notch tto build with. Nice photos Nathan. Thanks. I had a chuckle when I saw the one of the me 109 as it just appears like someone with old junk plane in their back yard. "Yup, Had that around for years. Works great as a dawg house."

Doug - Outstanding work on the engine and guns. A really sweet effort. Yeah, the resin and brass would certainly do it justice.

Man Doug, you're a detailing machine. Nice engine work. I can appreciate all the open panels, but its just not my thing at the moment. I get much more pumped up about painting and weathering and just prefer to leave things shut. Probably couldn't compete with you guys on detailing engines and gunbays anyway.  Hey Rix hoped the photos helped. Hey if only I had one of those things in my back yardCool

Nathan...My friend, you likely know more about aircraft then I'll ever know, I just read alot and try to reproduce what I read and see. As far as panels go, Yeah, your right, I love em either way, I just figure that if I'm going to spend that much time on detail... Why not (grin) I save the closed panels for the engine less kits. Its like someone told me befor, We only compete with our selves. I see all the great looking builds here and just want to present a respectable build. Honestly, thats why I started trying to be more realistic, I'm just hoping that I am paying an acceptable tribute to the brave men who flew these craft.

Thanks

Doug (RR)

Got a little more done today...Just a hint though, I will never again build another kit without reenforcing the landing gear, I'm tired of setting model on struts and coming back later to find a sphyinx (sp) splayed out on the bench. GRRRR! any way, heres a bit more...

Those gear bays look great Doug. Love the wiring and the brake lines!! I hear ya about reinforcing, the Eduard gear attachment points may be the weakest I have ever seen in any kit!!!

I think your right Eric... Along with the LHS, I like hunting through flea markets, Yard sales and lastly Ebay. Lots of treasures in all, but when older kits are found(The ones I prefer) the plastic has a way of becoming a bit brittle over time. Then you add oil washes, PE,resin, and the supports are weakened and over loaded. From now on, I will "pin" all landing gear. Its easier to do while under construction then as a repair. Take care my friends...

More soon...

Doug

Ok folks. I finished up with the stenciling and walkway border lines on the upper wing. Will probably be doing a gloss coat tomorrow morning and set that aside to cure out. Meanwhile I have been cutting parts for the engine from the spues and getting all of that ready to go. No pics right now but stencils are pretty hard to see in pics( at least with my camera and not to mention the lighting but thats a work in progress).

Well this morning I started assembling the engine after cutting more parts from the sprue and cleaning them up. Lots of flash on the engine parts......LOTS!! Anyhow got the two engine rows put together.

Very nicely done so far Joe. Especially on all the flash removal. Man, is that ever a PIA.

As far as my progress goes I am attempting to install brake lines on the landing gear. Trust me at this point "attempting" is the key word. But, I shall persevere.

Hello All,

I’ve been watching this build from afar, and am really impressed with the quality of work! You guys rock!

Since I’m way too much of a deadbeat to actually finish a model in the timeframe for this group build, (my D–9 is going on two years and the fuselage/wings are only just assembled) I wanted to contribute by sharing some new photographs I took last Monday at the National Museum of the USAF. I started a thread on the subject here.

However, I did take a bunch of detail oriented photos that you might find interesting; here are a few:

Thanks for letting me share. I’ll be looking in on the build as time passes as well.

Best regards,

Mike

Terrific photos Mike. Thank You very much for sharing those. And excellent quality photos to boot. I could not help but notice from the photos how bent up the antenna wire is. I wonder is that actual or just poor restoration work. The USAF Museum is at the top of my bucket list. I've been to most of the others but, have yet to get to that remarkable shrine. That and the Oshkosh Air Show.

Hi Guys, Well it's not much but it is some progress. I fashioned some brake lines from lamp cord wire and got them glued on. This would have been a more difficult task except that I have the Eduard PE set for this kit which has brake lines and I just laid the wire next to them and copied the bends.

Way to go on the brake lines Joe. And people think I'm nuts for working with small stuff like 48th scale!!

TADAAA!!! It's not complete by any means but the dull coat is now on and the panels are coming off. Still have the wing cannon access covers to go and some clean up but it's getting there.

Your Welcome Joe.

I highlighted the panel lines with a pencil rather than pre-shading in a regular manner with an airbrush. I felt that I would not be able to airbrush as thin of a line as I would like and still be "in scale". Thus i decided to give this a try and see how it works out. I hope to shoot the RLM 76 on the bottom today.

Joe and Joe... Excellent work both of you! Thats my favorite part of the build, the paint and detail. Joe 1, I've been watyching and have seen people paint then install wings and such, How in the world do you do that? I have to be completly assy, before I feel safe to paint. Joe R. what kind of pencil and type of lead did you use?  Again guys...Bravo , very nice!
