Hi all.

The service went ok for what it was. Made me regret not knowing the guy better, and regret not being closer to my Dad's family. I think the way mom was influenced a lot of that as these people were not her family so she kept away from a lot of them and kept the kids away as well. My own tendencies to be a bit of a recluse doesn't help. I need to change some of this as one of my cousins worked in banking for most of her career and has offered her help with what I need to do going forward.

Other than that, after I left there I went to the LHS snooped around. No purchases other than a needed bottle of decal set, but as I was off of work, and I just wasn't ready to go home yet.. I did spend a little time putting parts together on the Panzer. There are pics, but I really just feel like hitting the sack for now.

Later

Jim

Hi Jim,

Glad to hear that you found someone to help with the banking aspect of your Mom's estate.  That should make things a little easier.

As for me, found the new SSD hard drive that I installed in my wife's computer was the problem.  Had to go through many hoops to find the right Samsung support phone number to call.  Finally talked to the right person and got an RMA number and shipping labels emailed to me.  The hard drive is packaged up and ready to send off.  Now I will have to wait for the replacement to be returned so I can finish the repair.

Jim: Well, at least that's out of the way, hopefully despite the bitter hole left things will get better. It's good your cousins way willing and able to help out and has experience with stuff like that- I wouldn't know where to start.

Ken: Good luck, I've always had good luck with Samsung products. Though I've never had to return anything for servicing. Hopefully they don't have to send it off to S. Korea and back!

Tough day at work, but now I'm off until Monday.

Made a little progress at the bench the last few days:

More pieces for the turret and gun. The gun itself is around 9 or 10 pieces if you count the panel it all mounts to. The two parts still on the sprue hold the gun assembly to the front of the turret and had to be attached very, very carefully in order to allow it all to pivot. I was successful. The storage box, if that's what it is, stands out a bit from the back of the turret, so it will have to be attached after painting or I won't be able to paint in between them.

There are still a few pieces to add to the turret on the outside.

Foe what it's worth, just in case that 1" tall person shows up and wants to climb down into the tank, I painted the interior of the turret and hull it's buff color.

So far it looks like this:

One thing I see here, and I am going to assume there is some degree of accuracy with the kit. is that the turret actually sits slightly  to the left of centerline. I don't know if you can tell from this photo or not. That's one thing about scale modelling, is that you do learn things about your subject as you go.

Jim

***An added note here: A quick google search and I found out that the P4 did indeed have the turret off center to the left and the engine was offset to the right. This allowed the driveshaft to the transmission in the front and the mechanism for the turret to bypass each other.

See? learn, learn, learn!

Nice work once again Jim!  And thank you for the extra bit of information!  I like it!  Very cool indeed.  I hope you enjoy your extended weekend.  I am taking Friday off myself.

She's coming right along Jim, tanks are addicting aren't they!

I have been doing mostly missiles for the AH-64. Sixteen Hellfires and two decals apiece.

All those stencils on those Hellfires just so they can blow them up!Yes

Funny you say that about the tanks: I started this group build with the Growler, and have always mostly been a things-that-fly kind of person. Then I started the King Tiger as a distraction, which is nearing completion, well into a second build of a Panzer. And now I must confess that the Tiger I was interested in I mentioned a week ago, is on it's way to my house and is scheduled to arrive here on Friday! They are addictive! I still want to get back to the Growler and hopefully finish it in time for the close of this build!

Should I mention that Dragon has just released an updated version of the Panther? I need to stop! Bang Head

Lol, I wonder at the point of having 'US Army' printed on them- I mean if you wrote it on the front at least  the guy you shot it at would know who killed him!

I've got a bit of habit where I go back and forth from mostly aircraft to mostly armour every couple of years. They're fun since I can just build the whole darn thing  and paint without worrying about masking off the colour demarcation lines or clear parts or any of that annoying stuff with aircraft.

Sixteen Hellfires; assembly line work there.  Agree with you on the canopy painting, demarcation lines etc. The tanks sure seem easier especially if they're Russian WWII. Now German stuff that's a whole different ballgame!

Well, I'm going to make it easy on myself with the P4. I'm planning on just going with a dark gray monochrome this time. I read it was very common after '43.

I already started the road gear here-I used one of Testors newer Panzer line of colors, which is supposed to be RAL 2009. I just have to figure how I'm now going to paint the tires on those road wheels and return rollers. The little bag has inserts for the road wheels, so they may not be so bad to paint.

Maybe you can see the grey a bit better on this one:

Also applied some dot filters on the KT:

I think other than a few touch ups, it's time to call this painting done. All that's left is to tack on all the little exterior bits and call it good. I also need to figure how to paint on a thin line for the headlight. It's supposed to be just a horizontal slot, plus maybe a gloss black front for the opening on the periscope for the driver to simulate the glass lens.

Jim: She's one fine looking Tiger! Just add the hatches.

And good luck with the road wheels there, I guess I should add that most planes at least only have three of those so it is one advantage of aircraft modeling!

Only three wheels, but I had to be foolish enough to add a couple of PE sets to my last aircraft! Added an additional 100+ pieces to that build! Same with the Growler! Pure insanity on my part! No wonder I took a break to toss down a couple of relatively simple things like German tanks!

Yeah, I got to the point I just swore off PE, takes me long enough to build anything without adding that to the list too.

Hey all!

Well, let me put it like this:

VROOOOM! RUMBLE, RUMBLE!

The new Tiger kit arrived Friday, and looking it over, it is a completely reworked kit unlike the other Tiger I have that just had a couple of new sprues to update it. As I had mentioned, many of the moldings appeared to be thick, and seams just didn't match very well.

The whole back of the box is dedicated to selling the kit, explaining all the features of the kit. I glanced over it and the moldings are much better, and also includes some PE parts and some braided cables! (Not molded!)

Even more of this continues on the sides of the box.

Look! Even has seats for the Commander and loader! I was so concerned they would get too tired....

In a way, I shouldn't have done it as I am still a little tight in the money dept right now, but sometimes I just get a little impulsive...

Well, setting that aside, I have been cementing parts all over the Panzer IV.

It's pretty much ready to paint now, as I added everything I can that didn't require seperate painting.

This makes me realize just how much bigger the King Tiger is! What a beast!

As far as that King Tiger, since I took that last photo, I have completed it! (With the exception of something I'm needing to fix!) All the hatches are in place, tow cables, mufflers, jacks, etc. As soon as I fix my little flurb, I'll see about a suitable photo for the Wall Of Fame. Sorry if I came into this build with an aircraft, and I end up presenting a completed tank (or two) instead.

I tried to take an outside picture, but my home has a lot of ash and cottonwood trees around it. Will this work for a finished photo? I tried to find a sunny hole in the tree cover.

Jim: Looks good to me!

Dragon has been knocking it outta the park on their newer releases. I haven't built any of their 1/72nd kits but they've brought their A game to the table with the new 1/35th kits.

I think the biggest difference between the Royal Tiger and the Panzer IV is the gun. The 75mm on the Panzer IV is a powerful weapon but the 71 caliber 88mm gun on the Tiger makes it look like a popgun.

Nice job on the Hellfires Cliff!  Yes  Yes  Each one looks identical, which took a lot of effort to accomplish I am sure.  They will look great on your AH-64!

Talk about an assembly line, the top two pictures sure looks like one to me!  That would be one thing about tanks I would not like very well, the wheels!

That Tiger I looks like a nice kit Jim!  Congratulations on a great score!  Lots of detail, and you are excellent at detailing!

Your Panzer is coming along very nicely as well.  It appears you are having a great time with these tanks!  I may have built one, maybe two tanks when I was kid.  Too long ago to remember for sure!  Hmm

Jim the Panzers look amazing; what you've done in that scale is a testament to your skill for sure! The outdoor lighting on the hall of fame pic really compliments the camo job.

I always use Floquil "grimy black" for my road wheels as it seems to have a touch of grey that replicates real rubber. Anyway, great job!

Grimy Black is always what I use for my tires. However, with my decision to go with a "Schwarzgrau" or Blackish Grey color, you couldn't tell the difference. I used Floquil Engine Black instead. I'll have to see how it looks when I get that far.

Hey all! Just wondering where everybody went! No posts lately!

Myself? Well, I've been working extra hours, being away from home around 12-13 hours everyday when you add in the daily cross town commute. Most nights I just come home, eat dinner and go to bed. Plus, I have been struggling with so many things dealing with Mom's estate. Trying to get to the stocks she owned is a lot tougher than I imagined. I've tried to dot the i's and cross all the t's, but still running into roadblocks at every turn.

In the mean time, my sister and her kids are unhappy with me, because Mom's savings are gone and I can no longer provide them money. The utilities at the house are about to be disconnected, and there isn't thing one I can do about it! My 22 year old nephew has been living in the house rent free, and the bills belong to him, as far as I see it.. I've announced that the house is going to go, and somehow it is unfair that my food stamp receiving, unemployed, mother of a couple of illegitimate kids, (I know she aborted one and miscarried another, so it could have been 4) , pot smoking (and probably more) sister will not be allowed to move into the house while I pay the bills!

I let things go on way too long, and I'm told that is because I am too kindhearted of a person. While this isn't a bad thing overall, it has made my path all that more difficult in the end.

I am so stressed with all that, that when i do go to bed, I sleep fitfully only a few hours and then I'm awake. I haven't sat down at the workbench for a while as I just haven't the time or even the interest!

Sorry to babble on so much, but sometimes the words just keep coming out....

Hi Jim,

Yes Jim, kick them out and do not have any regrets or remorse about it!  Explain to them that you are doing it for their own good!  The only way they are gong to understand self respect and responsibility is to throw them out and force them to earn their money!

No one can have any self respect if they go through life living off of others.  Once they start working for what they get in life, they will feel much better about themselves, and everything else will just fall into place.

Kicking them out will be the best thing you can do for them!  And don't give them a dime!

Hi Everyone,

I have been wrapped up the last few weeks with some personal issues of my own.  They are not something I can discuss openly here.  But it has been consuming all of my time.  I hope to have a resolution soon.
