I couldn't have said it any better myself Ken. It sucks but if just seems some people if you give 'em an inch they just keep pushing for a mile.

Nothing much to report here, I cemented the Blackhawk together, the Minicraft kit isn't the best in the world when it comes to seams, I'm sanding the krap outta the thing. The Apache is close to done, I keep wandering off to work on my Churchill for Bish's D-Day build instead of finishing it though.

Hey Jim et al., I, myself have been convalescing from a motorcycle spill I took 2 weeks ago. Shoulder dislocated, bruised ribs and 2nd. & 3rd. degree burn on my ankle. The burn is the worst pain I've ever had as well as the longest to heal. Fortunately it's not a huge area, about 8X6cm. So...haven't been doing too much at the bench simply because it's easier to sit on the couch and read, watch baseball and keep my foot elevated. That and the pain pills pretty much reduce my hand-eye coordination. It would be like trying to build a model while drunk; could be fun but the results would leave something to be desired!

Hope everyone else is enjoying their weekend and hope things get solved for you Ken.

Wow Mike, I am glad you are still alive!  I used to ride but gave it up a few years ago.  I had many close calls but was lucky that I never was involved in an accident.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

I just found out today that the neighbor that lives right behind me is in the hospital in critical condition from crashing on his motorcycle.  He is not expected to make it.  But in this case it is Karma.  The guy really did not deserve to stay among the living.  He had already killed one dog that he kept in a kennel last summer during the heat wave by not giving it any water.  Then he did it again just a few weeks ago by putting another dog in the same kennel with a muzzle on and leaving it.

I hear you about the dangers of riding but I acknowledge that things like this can happen and accept those risks. In my case I hit some gravel in a turn at about 25-30 MPH and had enough time for 2 applications of brakes. Did everything by the book to avoid it but ....As a matter of fact I had no choice but to ride the damn thing to the hospital as I had no other options. As far as the knucklehead neighbor of yours, I'm relatively intolerant of cruelty to animals and so have very little remorse for someone like that.

BTW since I started the recovery process I'm doing another German halftrack. Something I had lying around and figured I'd go ahead and build. No pressure as it's just a simple kit that won't be too much of a challenge in my reduced state of mind. I'll post some pics for kicks as I get further along with it.

Sorry to hear of your crack-up! I know burns can be pretty painful! Coupled up with the shoulder and ribs? Best to take it easy and recover! I took a spill about five years ago over the handlebars of my bicycle, and know how unforgiving asphalt can be even at low speeds! I cracked a couple of ribs then, tore something in my shoulder that has never been the same since then and gave myself one hell of a road rash on my leg. Bled pretty good and had mostly filled my shoe with blood by the time I limped home. Ended up having to take time off work as I was Mr. Man of Glass for a while! Don't touch me, I might break!

Ken, I hope things work out for you soon. I can understand you keeping whatever is going on to yourself. Sometimes I think I go on way to much about my issues. Just hang in there!

Seems like life has its way of just reaching out and grabbing us all by the you-know-whats, and keep us from doing the things we would rather be doing!

Mike:  I agree with Jim, that road rash has to be the most intense pain.  Never had to deal with it myself but had other friends that did.  I rode for about 10 years solid (even in winter!) until I moved away from all my riding buddies.  I even rode a 1,500 mile round trip once by myself.

Jim:  Thank you for the well wishes.  I normally wouldn't mind sharing what is going on but this is not what I want to splash on the open internet.  I am hoping to find the solution soon.

Hey, All,

Somehow I got unsubscribed from this thread. Since things have been slow in all the threads, I didn't think to check it until things got really too quiet and I finally looked in.

Mikey - Sorry to hear about your accident! Hope your injuries are mending quickly.

Ken - Best of luck on resolving your personal problem. Hope it's not serious.

Nice work guys on those tanks. I'm not into armor so I don't have anything to contribute but what I've seen looks good to me.

Cheers All,

Russ

Hurry and get that Blackhawk done! We could use it's help here!

I'm sure you all have seen the news about the rains and flooding here in Colorado. That's what I have been in the middle of.today. The exact area I live in has been spared the worst of it, but the folks to the north of me got brunt of it. The east side of Denver is where I work, and it was hit pretty hard as well. Work shut down early, but it still took me nearly 2 hours to drive the 15 miles home. More rains are expected over the next few days, though not as bad as today. This is on top of the fact that some areas have already received as much as 6-8" of rain today alone! They have called out the national Guard and even the Coast Guard (Yes, in Colorado!), but their choppers can not fly right now because of the low ceiling. There are all sorts of states of emergency and disaster area being declared. At least 3 people have been killed. For right now, I am in a sort of "pocket" that has been spared some of this, but the rains have been heavy here as well.

We (Me, my tropical fish, and my models) are safe for now, but I feel bad for the people who are severely affected by all this. Some are literally cut off as bridges and roads are washed out, and the town of Lyons is without power and even lost their cel phone tower.

Happy to hear from you again Russ, I'm seeing a wound therapist 3 times a week for debridement which is a fancy medical term for gouging and cutting; thank God they use lidocaine! The Doc said I'm looking at another 3 weeks of this. I had originally started on a German halftrack as an "easy" build but after messing up the front end due to taking one too many percocet I put it back in the box and will start on my Bf-109 Trop flown by Hauptmann H-J Marseille this week end. I should be throttled back enough on the happy pills to be a bit more observant while gluing, I'm more comfortable with wing things.

Yeah Jim, keep your head down. Good to see you escaped the brunt of the storm.

Mike: Hope you're back up and at 'em soon. Had my wisdom teeth cut out some years back, the happy pills I was on back then were something else. I remember going to the dentist, sitting down in the chair and then waking up in bed three days later. Don't remember anything that happened in those three days, nothing, nada, zilch...

You guys are in my thoughts and prayers...

Hang in there Mikey! I had a friend some years ago, injured in a house fire. I spent a lot of time at the burn unit visiting and supporting her family, and witnessed things I hope to never see again. Those treatments can be a bear, but they are necessary.

Best wishes

Well, it's been another wet one here, but it looks as if the pattern that has caused all the trouble here has finally started shift and give us a break from the rain. The bad stuff isn't over yet as many areas are still flooded, roads and bridges washed out, towns wiped out and the possibility that there may be more fatalities once they begin to sift  through the debris. There is also the fact that these flood waters are making their way downstream and is taking several days to reach the towns and communities there in eastern Colorado. The media does not say much about them as they are small towns and not as important as what happens along the front range to them. My friends live out there.

Today was intense as the weatherman had spoke of two possible models of what would happen, and one of those was pointing a very big gun at my area and up north towards those areas already hit hard. When heavy rains started falling at around noon, I was concerned. The local channels offered little information as it is football day and they weren't going to pre-empt any of that.

I did see quite a bit of rain and we had some creeks overflow with street flooding, and in the parks and open spaces. The Broomfield Enterprise classified it as "minor difficulties" and compared to the devastation north of me, I would say my city was lucky.

In the meantime, I have been doing a bit here and there on the Panzer, but no great strides forward. Also began another little project I will reveal later.

Hope all of you are well, Mikey with your ouchie and Ken with what is going on with you. Hopefully things will calm down for us all and we can get back to the real business of working on our projects.

Hi Jim,

I have been watching the news every evening and seeing the reports of all the flooding going on in Colorado.  They showed tonight how the sky finally cleared so they could finally get helicopters in to rescue people.  Man, all those bridges washed out, dams that failed, mud and rock slides.  There is a lot of devastation!  I hope you are okay friend!

Yeah what a mess...

Ken, I hope things are going better for you. I sprayed the final flat coat on the Apache and ended up with large white frosted areas, I think it's the friggin' humidity and the paint taking forever to dry. I had to set the thing aside till I cool off. Still nothing compared to what you guys are going though...

Hi Cliff,

I am really sorry to hear about Apache!  That is a real bummer!  I hope it clears up for you.  If not, I hope it isn't too much trouble to fix.

My situation still hasn't changed yet.  It is still in a "wait and see" state.

I sprayed the Apache with a light coat of Future and most (not all) of the frosting went away. I'm going to try to carefully repaint the bad areas and hope the frosting doesn't come back as the paint ages.

Wow, sorry to hear about that paint frosting, Cliff! Can humidity cause that? So far, I haven't had that problem and I live in a humid climate but now I know what to watch out for. Thanks!

Russ: I'm not sure what caused the frosting. At the time it was pretty humid, I'd spray the model and then come back 5-10 minutes later and some of the paint would still be wet. I know it will turn white if you apply it too heavy so I was thinking maybe the slow drying caused the frosting.

Later I read on this site of people having problems if the dull varnish wasn't totally mixed. I took the same bottle and shook the krap out of it alternately stir mixing. With some trepidation I sprayed a few more light coats on over the Future. So far no frosting. So maybe the paint wasn't mixed well? The humidity is way back down too, so darned if I know...

It can definitely give you a hazy milky white tint.  That is one of the reasons if you use an airbrush to make sure you have an inline filter that traps moisture on your hose.

When I had a job as an inspector for construction, we had a gauge to measure the humidity.  We would not let anything get painted if the humidity was too high.

I just found this really great link to some tips on using Testors line of paints and other products.  A lot of them we probably already know but I am sure you will find some new useful information.

Hey Ken, thanks for the hyperlink to the paint guru. I'm always getting educated on model related stuff so it's good to have another resource. I know humidity can be a pain in the keyster when it comes to painting as I have lived in the Mid-South for quite a while. I'm posting pics of the Bf-109 WIP The cockpit is done in RLM 02 grey with various colors to liven things up.

I was inspired to do this build after reading a new biography of Hans-Joachem Marseille a few months back. Amazing pilot. Wish he'd flown for us. Even though he was on the side of the "Bad Guys" he has my admiration.
