Ok guys, Here is my subject for this build. The 1/72 Italeri H-34 in the U.S. Marine Corps. scheme. A couple of firsts here: 1. this is my 1st ever 1/72 scale helicopter and 2. my first attempt at using PE parts. This should be interesting considering I can barely handle small parts at 1/48 :(.

The cleaning and sanitizing guys were here til 2am. have 5 drying fans going. Only good thing is that it turned out to be a blockage on the street so the water company is paying for everything

Here are some updates on the H-34. First, let me say I'm starting to regret the decision to use PE parts for my first group build, they are quite a challenge esp. at 1/72 scale.

I started with what I thought were the easiest things first, such as painting all interior parts gull grey and attaching the PE cargo net to the rear bulkhead as shown in the photo.

[View:http://s1276.photobucket.com/user/brisketandcheddar/media/20130408_215327_zps54ff096d.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2#/user/brisketandcheddar/media/20130408_215327_zps54ff096d.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2&_suid=1365715555395033597825545847703:600:0]

Next came the instrument panel which was an exercise in frustration the entire way. This was especially true trying to align the PE panel to the acetate backing with the instrument faces on it. In this photo the PE tail rotor anti-torque pedals have been attached but are not painted.

[View:http://s1276.photobucket.com/user/brisketandcheddar/media/20130408_215327_zps54ff096d.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2#/user/brisketandcheddar/media/20130408_215238_zps9e988de4.jpg.html?sort=3&o=3&_suid=136571580909207959552679565708:600:0]

One thing that I wanted to point out is that if anyone decides to use the Eduard PE parts for this kit, the replacement pilot and co-pilot seats seem to be too wide, either that or I did not assemble them correctly. In any case, the only way they will fit and still get the fuselage halve to mate properly was to sand the sides very thin (actually looks better thinner) and moved them both toward the center until they touched the panel running along the back of the cockpit. They were also a pain to assemble, but I must say that overall, after painting they look ok. In this photo the seats have been painted and the PE harnesses attached, but not painted. Oh, I forgot to mention that the PE seats were quite bare, so I added a seat cushion by cutting a thin strip of tissue and wetting it and repeatedly folded it over until the correct thickness was achieved. Once it dried I painted it Tamiya OD.

Hopefully I can make some more progress this weekend, but if the weather is nice I will be in the yard...tough to model this time of year.

Despite the frustrations (and PE certainly can be!), you are getting very nice results.

Bish

I didn't realise the twin Mustang was actually used, i thought it was a Waht If. Nice info.

The original, but stripped down, production P-82B Twin Mustang made a non-stop flight from Hawaii to New York in 1947. It was a world record at the time and used to show the Soviets that the USAF could protect their SAC B-29 and B-36 bombers anywhere in the world.

The XP-82 and XP-82A were prototypes with Merlin and Allison engines respectively. The B model was the production version of the Merlin-engined XP-82. The C and D models were P-82B prototypes for two different radar installations.

Most of the operational Twin Mustangs were the F-82E escort fighters and F-82F all-weather interceptors used to intercept Soviet aircraft from places like Alaska. The E/F were Allison-engined production versions of the XP-82A. The F used the radar from the prototype D model.

The only ones to see combat where the F-82G night fighters. The G model was the production version of the Merlin-engined C model with that version of radar. The H model was a cold weather version created by modifying some F and G models.

I'm finally getting some time to play with my Twin Mustang.  I found that the small holes in the lower part of the engine cowl by the carburetor are represented on the kit by a series of small raised nubs. This won't do. So I have started drilling out these holes. And did I mention that I am actually building two of these kits simultaneously. One for this group build and one as a "What If" ground attack fighter for the ARC "What If 2.0" group build. Seriously, that is 8 fuselage halves with 32 holes in each one. Then I'll need to thin down the wall thickness to make it look right.

Time to get this build under way.I have been working ion the 262 for a few days in bwteen rigging the 0/400. This is the kit i am useing.

I have a few MPM/Special Hobby kits in the stash but this is the first time i have built one. Despite being an old kit, it has some nice detail and a nice PE set. Some of the sprue attachments are a bit thick but are generally well places not to cause a problem.

The resin pit is now done. I have test fitted and its the best fitting Aires cockpit i have had so far. Though i do wounder if it would fit as well in the Revell kit it was designed for.

Also got the fuselage together with the bomb aimers floor fitted. That still needs painting and the seams need a little sanding, but nothing to major.

Thats it for now.

oops looks like i already joined. usually i lay my own track but thought i'd see if i could make the plastic track presentable. tried to prime in the garage brlow freezing and did not go well. what appears to be preshading represents 75 minutes with q-tips, alcohol, and paint thinner stripping it down. weather is warming up which is good because i have 4 to prime and a model contest next week. think this will be dark gray bottom, panzer gray top with broad panzer red-brown stripes. as WRC-12s were not deployed outside of germany, this one is assigned to the rr gun training base on the baltic.

Thanks. The cockpit tub was just one piece with most of the detail in it. I just had to add the seat, stick some leavers and foot pedals. Probably one of the simplest resin pits i have done.

Looks good wayne.

Good looking railway. It makes me want to have a try at one.

Bish - that's good work on an interesting kits. I think I will get one and watch yours closely. I have in mind to do many variants of the 262.

Cheers

Thanks Tony. I would like to do one kit of every variant if possable. Seeing as there were not that many for the 262, it shouldn't be that hard. Not including all the prototypes, i make it 22.

MPM also do an A-1a/U3 recon variant, which i was also able to get hold of. And most of the other rare versions are out there somewhere.

Awesome work Bish!  Man, that is some serious detail for such a small area.  Great job!  Can't wait to see more pics!

Resin!  Heck, I'm still trying out new things we didn't have 20+ years ago! But I sure am having fun.  I hope to post some stuff this weekend.  I've been slowed down by not having a compressor, but I think I will splurge and get one this weekend!  Anyway, great work man!

Tell me about it. I only took a 5 year break staring in 2003, and the difference when i came back was huge. I was just getting into resin and PE before i left off.

All that stuff comes with time, but a good compressor and airbrush can make a world of difference.

hey eagle90

don't know where you live but, if noise isn't a problem, check out HARBOR FREIGHT for an inexpensive compressor with tank and regulator. it is loud but my workshop is in the basement bunker, my hearing is already shot, and i'm home alone most of the day.
