Russ

Ive had the BUFF bug since I was 6 years old. Standing in my uncles drive in Columbus OH and watching 6 B-52Es haul out of Rickenbacker AFB right over me at about 200 feet.... The sound, the smoke, too bad, I was hooked. and its only gotten worse.....

As a side not, after seeing the IFR duo, I probably should clean up some cobwebs.... what can I say, Im single and a little grub &grime dont bother one bit....Wink

Installing the dio board sometime today whenever my brother gets here... Til then its back to the "G" engine I started on last night...

I like that in flight re fuelling pic, great work. And the 52 bomb yard is an interesting idea. Look forward to seeing more of that.

Do any of you guys know what's happened to Buffmaster. I have been checking there site every now and again for the last year or so, hoping they would release the AM sets they had listed. But when I checked today the site was gone. Have they closed completely or just moved to a new site.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Ive put the dio on hold as I found a complete DB Conversion set to turn a mono "D" into a Post Phase IV B-52G- Thats the new project, I also have the same set for an "H" so guess whats next. Thanks for the kudos and Dom, if ya get yer canadian bacon busy I will finish up tha B-36

Just cant thank Russ enough, for the pic assist to the motivation what more can I say??

I think he secretly puts motivation is his emails....

Well back to the resin, time to install the Phase IV aft fuselage extension plug!!

Kong out!!

You're welcome, Allen and Dom. My pleasure!  Sounds like a fun conversion, Allen - is it going to be a fully built bomber or part of your AMARC display?

Cheers,

Russ

The "G" will be a Desert Storm bird in 36081 and 34079. Am considering a mid-gear retraction sequence.. Resins set-Time for the other side!! Russ, your a great model builder, how can I make huge clouds of bellowing black smoke??  Most of the boneyard stuff is just bits I have from buying all those kits off ebay in the early 80s... I bought built kits that looked like they do, and unbuilt kits that were mising parts, NSIB kits, whatever I got a deal on.In one deal I bought 11 mono 5709 kits for ten each to clear his inventory and he paid the shipping!!

That will definitely be cool!

As for the black smoke, that would be a good question to post on the Techniques forum. Maybe someone has already come up with a good solution. Meanwhile, I'll think on it...

Cheers,

Russ

The Majer has a bigger inventory than the USAF.  Nice work guys.

Hammer,

Nope, at least not yet, I believe the current US B-52 inventory would on the order of 72 B-52H aircraft Not sure about the Bone and the B-2. Gimme a couple more years of retirement, Ive still got 8 monogram and 11 amtertlirie kits, cant begin to tell you abut the spare, thats why I settled on a 4x8 AMARC dio, it will be a working yard so If a part is needed, it will pulled from the AMARC inventory.  dont like the AMT kits, got that stupid anhedral wing. Currently doing a Phase IV desert storm "G" with the DB conversion resin and Id still rather do it that way than build the AMT version... Next up is a B-52H in 36118 and it will be a mono kit with the DB conversions Phase IV Resin update. Would love to get my hands on the DB molds....

Thanks fer the good words!!

Bow DownOh,

Goldhammer was way way off!SurpriseBig Smile

Major Kong only has a little over half of the UUSAF inventory!!!

boy, sure am glad I didn't make that miscalculation myself!!!Bow Down

Well Kong, I was thinking about the AMTiliari anhedral, is that because they assume everyone is building the kit on the Tarmac?

I think it was due to laziness on the engineering, someone was more interested in the potential profit rather than actual accuracy... just my2 cents

Hey Kong, have you ever come across one of those 1/72 wing root conversion kits; it adds that fillet ; was that the "G" version?

I saw one in resin about three years ago, but was to dumb to buy it!

Dom,

Never used  the resin  wingroot strakelets, I just make my own outta bondo (Squadron white) I do have the B-52G "Late Model" by AMT and the strakelets are about as off as you can get although it does afford a nice repair area when correcting that stupid ,useless, incorrect wing.... NOT a big fan of the AMT/ERTL molds or the plastic...

Hey Kong:

Seeing as you are an expert on the subject, if you have some spare time, i would really appreciate the down and dirty of why the AMT kit is so incorrect. It would really help. i've spent hours trying to fix the wings on model aircraft.

I didn't know the AMT's were so bust, but i haven't built one yet, so you could provide some real guidance if'n ya choose to send the time to edj-a-mik-ayt me!

What I don't like about AMT is they always have to put that stupid texture on everything!

Dom's new AMT BUFF:

B-52ZMT: That's the B-52 with ZIMMERIT!!!Propeller

yeah, that ought'a do it!!!!

Dom,

You really want to start me up on the AMT/Ertl kit??

1) Wings are the wrong shape. 2) Wings have incorrect dihedral. 3) "Late Model" wingroot strakelets are incorrect, 4) Spoilers....pathetic. and it goes on and on and on....

I usually sand off the AMT strakelets and just make my own. Im getting close to painting my "Late Model" B-52G (58-0177) in 36081 and 34086 as per "Desert Storm" Will send Russ a coupla pics when it get out of the Paint shop.

Anybody know where the old DB Conversions B-52G/H molds are?? Id really like to buy them...

Hey Kong, can you draw a dihedral diagram, or tell me what the angle is AMT used?

I may sound like a jasper, but I need to fix about 4 of those!

Thanks for the info, well, if i ever get to buy you a beer, you can show me the wrong shape on a drafting board. yeah, you, Russ, a few guys here, we sometimes lose sleep thinking about things like that.

hey, you got a few old atom gadgets hanging around....Pirate

soon I may be back in business!!!!!Devil

So, from Russ's suggestion, and for the love of the BUFF,

I'm puting together all of the picune information I learned about the aircraft and

not all of it is on Pickipedia.

The BUFF was way ahead of it's time. It's still in service as I write this.

An airframe with its fuselage taking off and landing parallel to the runway surface,

and yaw 15 degrees or more into a violent sidewind with its wheels tracking

the runway and landing gear surviving the impact.

30, 000 lbs of payload, that's not to say special loads weren't way higher than that.

Fly round the world with in-air refueling.

Fly 9,000 miles round trip without in-air refueling.

Loiter for 12 hours over a target.

Smell like a old sneaker or camp side outhouse.

Till soil.

Make glass mirrors out of parking lots.

It's been around since the mid 50's, and now it's 2015!

It's been around longer than the history of powered flight was around before the BUFF

entered service!!

A new age of technology may be its final undoing, but that is up to modern satellites and fighters and computers and missiles and hackers to decide.

No sane individual wants a BUFF getting by their latest technology...we've seen the results.

I'll be posting a few small corrections to the monogram wing when I get iphone connected.

They are very tiny corrections, not anywhre near as the problem Major Kong has revealed with the AMT wing roots anhedral issue.

Should I tell Dom about filling the front edges of the wing bottoms?? And dont even get me started about that fat round fuselage....

Wait a minute, what model B-52 are ya buildin?? A "G"? is it pre or post Phase IV?

Gosh Kong:

You have half the Airforce's inventory on hand,

I only have 5.

The port side of MonoRev #85-5709 is the round side, the starboard side is definitely flattter.

I also had to fill the starboard side just behind the office and closer to the top, it was a bit

sunk in.

I'm no expert on either the true shape of the BUUF, or the MonoRev outcome.

Kripes, when I look at how warped these beasts became and how many modifications they went throuh,

I can't say hitting it with a hammer might not make it more accurate!AngryYesBeerYeah

I'll have to trust floksum' as yoo n' Russ.....

Dubl kryps! I prawley fixd all the accooryt stuff an mayd it fayk backsidence!

Well, I tried, but she looks pretty, that's all she's got goin' fer' her!Stick out tongueEmbarrassedWink

The B-52 has never been "pretty" 'ceptin to me.... But it is what they call "effective". The bottom line is are YOU happy with it? I will spend hours fiddlin with one little minor detail and the next time, its like, thats close enough.... Dom Im pretty pleased with my DS "G" on a 1-10 scale Id give it about a 6... I use the 3 foot rule at my house. If anyone gets up closer than that, I get  nervous. Heaven forbid should someone actually touch one of em... The hammer of Thor comesdown on em!!!

May be a long road Dom but Russ and I will see to it that you get there.

Raining here today, no mowing so it looks like I will be working on pylons and bombs today....

We had snow pellets today,

and My BUFF still loiters at my old residence's ceiling, waiting to loiter in my apartment.

Things are going at a snail's pace, my hips gave out, I may have mentioned.

Well, not many 'ceptions around think the BUFF is pretty. But I always have to compare her to other bombers. Or maybe just overall, the B-52 has clean elegant lines. Other big bombers built by other nations never seemed elegant to me - but heck that is just MPO,

B-47 - slick lookin' joy ride - way ahead of it's time

B-58 - brute powerful stallion - with lines to match

B-70 - a Roman gladis sword in the sky - industrial geometry - stand under it, makes your hair stand up

I won't comment on the other big bombers, fact is, I like 'em all.

Anyhow, just found all the bombs Russ helped me glue together, I never did find a replacement for super-glue, I tried them all.

I'll keep everyone posted as I move my BUFF to the new place and install her to loiter in the model room.

Hey Kong;

That reminds me of Russ' chant about using full power to taxi to the hangar...Big Smile

Dang landing gear always baffled me.

Sure,, I like seeing an airplane on the runway, but it always reminded me

of a car in garage...... or a beautiful gal all dressed up,,,,,,

it just ain't right......Wink

I guess I like the idea of them flying, and I always put all of the effort and logistics out of my mind.

Even bomb bay doors open bothered me, but after 5 decades, I'm not so tight anymore, I even like the smell of kerosene - jesss soz it dunna' messa' wit m' samytch'Smile

Let us know how the clear spray went, or is going. Had more snow a day ago, but it seems

the trees are still pushing for leaves.

I read this in a post above.

"Smell like a old sneaker or camp side outhouse"

As someone with about 3,000 hours in the BUFF, I can tell you from experience that the old girl smells like sweaty men and boiled urine.  Add a touch of SLEB puke and you got the whole picture...er... smell.

JW,

Had a fella tell me years ago that the B-52 smelled "Like a sumo wrestler took a dump on a burning tire....) Wouldnt happen to know  where I can get a bottle of "that new B-52 smell??Wink

Soon as I get the payload on the "G" it'll be off to start a current B-52H with the DB conversion kit also....

Oh happy day, more cutting and filling....

Once again, Thanks to russ for posting those pics- One of these days I will get better at this...

Yeah Jim;

I was probably trying to quote you from memory a ways back.

But, I don't have a memory anymore, i lost it, and i can't find

the Tossed and Found anymore.

As I've only seen a BUFF, 0 flying time experience, I' don't know what

SLEB is, let alone experienced puking it.

Sounds like Sandwhich Lettuce Ecoli Bacteria which makes me want to send cookies

all the way to Moscow from here, no insult on Muskovites intended.

Can you provide some tags to your prior posts Re; SLEB and your flight specialty?

I keep thinking you were in the Electronics  Warfare Dept. and training but danged me, I can't

pull a white rabbit outa' my memory these days.

They call it Post Traumatic Divorce Syndrome.

SLEB smells like a thing that if you just think about it, you SLEB

Welz 'kong, iz burn'ta few tyrs an mosta them used to crackle like fat,

them new ones just burn like coal.

Never smelt a sumo or his dump truck.

I figure new airplanes smell like that guaco moli paint they spray on the inside.

But not the brand new civilian airplanes. They smell like seat fabric an carpet.

Plutonium doesn't have much of a smell.....jess burns your skin and bones out after a few days.

Ever wonder what the sumo smelled like after he caught on fire after trying to

dump his dump-truck on burning tyrs? prawley worse than the burning tyres....I nowz what burnin hair sells lyk......worse than a grill cheese samich forgot on the stove.......

Sheeez......I prawely won't lyt up the campfire fer a year outa' fear of smoke!Ick!

So many Bombers, so little time.
