I forgot mention, I still need to make nose art for the jug. I have a sheet of clear decal paper. Now the trick is finding it LOL

Thanks, guys!

Ken> Good work on that P-47!  She's a great companion to that P-38.  And you should be warming the engine up if you're flying escort!

Stik> You know, with the amount of detail work you put into that B-26 it's a shame to close her up!  That's a beauty.

CMK02>  Thanks! How's the B-24 coming?

And here's one last shot of my C-47 before I spray her down with matte finish (just to make sure I have "some" record of it if things go horribly wrong).

Tail codes are on, weathering done, antenna fixed (and fixed again... and again).  Stack number "36" chalked on side and nose.  Windows masked.  It's late tonight, but tomorrow I'll give her a coating and she'll be ready.  D+16.

That looks really nice Gary, I really like the look on the control surfaces contrasting with the surrounding areas.

Okay, this is where my build now stands.  She's been waiting for tail code letters that arrived in the mail today.   All my efforts to create them failed, so I managed to find a sheet (for B-17s) that I can use to create what I need.

It still needs some more weathering, work on the antenna (I broke the forward one off), and general clean-up.  Then I can mask the windows and matte coat her.  Should have her finished this weekend.

I have come to realize that 1:72nd scale is not my cup of tea.  Especially with one eye being out of shape.

Pretty cool stuff but there just has to be a way to fit more guns on it. DrinksWink

there is... I still have yet to add the package guns on the fuselage sides. Not quite as much of a meat chopper as that B-25 ( I have one of those to build one day in the stash too) but still pretty mean for anything less well armored than a medium tank on the receiving end...

Thanks you sirs (and helmeted rodent) ;-) The next update photos will be ugly when the paintwork around the seams is sanded away... then CA to fill any gaps, etc....

All the test fitting that I did showed that little bits here and there would be visible, so thats why I kept adding stuff. It looks properly busy inside, as I intended, now that its all assembled.

Amazing work Stik!  More of that detail is going to be visible than I thought, this has been one of my favorite builds to follow

Well it was a bosy day for me on and off at the bench... do some work, gluing or painting, let it dry, take photos, take a break, then do some more. So here we go.
first up, the last bit of work that I did yesterday but did not photogrpah because it was time to go to work. A wash of Testors FX acrylic on the engines. This time I did not let it dry before I started cleaning it off, so it worked better. I am slowly getting a handle on this stuff.

Today I started off with adding the Quick Boost barrels to the tail guns, waist guns, and top turret.

a close up of the top turret

and later I added the clear cover to the turret

and I glued the fixed nose gun in place onto the bombardiers floorboard

next I added some PE ammo belts into the tail gun ammo troughs and glued the waist guns in place

then I added the flex ammo chutes for the waist guns, painted them and bent them into proper shape

and all ready for closing up

cockpit glued in place

top turret, tail gunners floorboard & seat, and armor plate put in place

all the fuselage ready for joining

all closed up and glue drying

some close up views of the waist guns looking up inside. There is a LOT more visible thru those open hatches than the camera can pick up

and a few views of the tail gunners compartment... the last best view of it before the other stuff goes in there...

seam clean up starts tomorrow...

The Heer Hamsters better take cover... bombers inbound soon...

Ken, really nice work on the Jug. It feels like this GB has been over for ages, but your right, its now only 2 weeks since D-day. Nice to see the Jug on the front page.

SP, that's looking really nice, some really nice work going into this.

CMK, no worries buddy, I think you have about 5 weeks before Cobra, hopefully you can get some decent bench time.

Thank you all and I'll add everyone's work is very good

It was really great GB, Many thanks go to Bish for hosting it

Well done, Ken and stik!  Great results.

I'm finding myself bogged down with work, and maybe only getting to work on one part per night--sometimes not even that.

I'd like to get done with D-Day before the start of Cobra!

Well I figure that seam clean up will remove the striping along the seam where they meet (or do not exactly). I can then touch up by hand and that will give the "hand painted" look common to the real aircraft. The way that this kit assembles, with the wing spars coming off of the bomb bay bulkheads and out thru the fuselage sides for the wings to mount upon, makes leaving the fuselage side detachable an option not easily done. I do want to try to finish this real soon.

Ken - congrats!  Admirable work on the venerable jug. Yes

Interesting marking choice, usually see these birds with nose art or some sort of splash of colour.

-------------------------------------

Stik - again, great stuff there.  I too am wondering about the choice of painting the stripes while the fuselage halves are still separate.  Must be a very exact fit when it comes time to gluing - or are you leaving it detachable to better view the interiors?

regards,

Jack

Ken: Very nice- always happy to see another fine looking P-47!

SP: Again, more cool work! Curious to see how the pre-painted stuff is going to work out when you've got her all together!

Looks real good there GT!

Here is my latest update as of midday today, 6/18
engines main colors painted

machine guns painted & drybrushed

rear windows, gunners hatches, and waist gun ammo bin glued in place

forward side windows in place

and I got another wild idea to clean out the solid portions that should not be there on the bombracks

I'm on my days off for the next few days, so more progress to follow...
