Ah, it's one of THOSE kind of kits :). A skill-builder.

Evergreen cockpit kit, LOL that cracked me up.  It looks good!

However my Heinkel isn´t listed to roster I´m still building it because I don´t have yet new compressor to paint Hurricane.

Because the cockpit is bit see-through I wasn´t satisfied how it was executed in this kit. Just one seat and small piece of floor. Floor was about 1/5 of the size what it should be. So I used Evergreen´s aftermarket set for it:

And I opened few windows:

Landing flaps were wrong shape. Also leading edge of the wing was sharp not round, so I replaced it with half round styrene strip and filled rest with putty.

And looks that there is some fishy with overal shape of the wing, but I come back to that later.

Here's some WIP shots of my Trumpeter F-86.She's primed now and waiting for her camo paint.Still lots of tiny parts to be trimmed off the trees and cleaned up.Slow but steady progress so far.Everyone's efforts look really great...Cool

I'll get more done on the C-17 after Thanksgiving.  You see, my kitchen ends up doubling as my work area.  Since I have relatives coming in for the week of Thanksgiving I'm trying to keep the place tidy and clean and I've put away all my modeling stuff.

Once they leave I'll get my stuff back out.

I hope this GB keeps going a while.  As soon as I can figure out how to post pictures ,I would like to join in.

I'm still planning to do my Tornado Mikey, I've just got a few others to finish off first.  I might use the whole of the allowed time for dramatic effect :)

Hey nice work on the Hurricane Trabi.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

More update with Hurricane.

All put together. Only lacking paint. Have to figure out where to get compressor. My old one blew up Crying

Have to say, that fittings in this kit are not from the top. I normally don´t need to use that amount of putty to 1:72 model.

A little progress on the C-17.  I've assembled the landing gear.  Each gear has three parts but its important to glue them together so they all sit true to the ground when attached to the fuselage.

Here they are attached to the fuselage.  It is important to make sure they are all parallel and facing the same direction:

I accomplished this by placing the fuselage on the gear with a sanding stick acting like the nose gear.

Hi!

And some update to Hurricane.

My huge plan was to make it straight from the box... but... Yeah. Whistling

I'm working on my F-86F and discovered the control stick has been consumed by the carpet monster. Not a big deal, will make another one.Hopefully I'll have WIP photos to post in a few days...Big Smile

Ok. Anybody going to continue? Want to keep this build going?

Yeah.  I'm still working on my C-17 but I just had some other stuff going on that slowed the build down.  I should be ramping it up here soon.

Hi!

I would like to attend this GB. I have missed so many nice GBs because lack of time. I hope I have enough time to finish this one. Atleast there´s not much to do.

My model would be Revell Hawker Hurricane MK1.

If any slots are still open,I'd like to enter this group build.I have quite a few 1/144 scale kits in the stash. If I'm green lighted to join in,will look through and see what I can contribute.

Still moving along like an arthritic iceberg.  I installed the forward windows and sanded them flush.  I filled the gaps around them with Mr. Dissolved Putty.

The fuselage half on top is mostly finished.  Just need to polish it down a little more:

I built the horizontal stabilizers.  I left out the clear part since it didn't really fit very well.  I'll use Kristal Klear to make the lenses.

Nice work IL2!  I have the 1/72 FM 'Falcon.  I'm waiting until I get just a little bit better to build it.

Nice work there IL2. Nice lighting and electrical work. And the leakage actually looks pretty cool. Like a little UFO.

I've my Eurofighter on the backburner while I try to finish a M1a1, a T62A, a Pz. IV Ausf H, and a P-47 with so little work left to do. But after the Abrams I'll probably get back to the Eurofighter.... I'm also trying to acquire more 1/144 kits.

I've been working on the lighting system for a few days. It's been really challenging

I started out by gluing in a block of soft balsa to mount the lights, then I carefully measured the angles so the lights would disperse evenly. Then I drilled holes, glued the LEDs in, and got to work soldering. If you didn't know, LED's have almost no resistance, so you almost always have to add resistors to your circuit.  By the way, I used this online circuit builder to help me design the wiring diagram: http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz

Carefully-measured angles

Soldering work

All lights functioning

Then, I cut away a strip of the plastic material from the lid of a clearcoat rattlecan, and glued it into the engine area. I was thinking I was almost done, so I tested the light system and I was discouraged to find the lights were not producing an even glow, but rather points of light.

Carefully measured, then sliced with razor

Points of light

So I started experimenting....
I first tried moving the lights around to adjust the focal length. Moving them toward the nose helped quite a bit. I also tried shining the lights through a multitude of different materials and stacks thereof. In the end, I cut another strip off the rattlecan lid and glued it in behind the other. This worked great, and I think the two are acting like a lens to refract the light out of focus.

fine_mold_millennium_falcon_144
Look closely, and you'll see two strips of clear plastic glued in.

The end result is much better. I will add a few more lights to the array, but I think I'm on the downhill side of this challenging part on my build. I still have a light leakage problem to address (see the last photo). I've read that a lot of the starship modelers solve this by using aluminum foil to block the light.

All that work on the wings is going to payoff big!

Thanks, I hope so.  The directions are a little vague and there is no guidance on cutting the flap fairings to the correct angle so there's going to be alot of cut, dry fit and repeat.

This is the first time I've built 1/144 scale.  But it wont be the last.  What a fun scale.

Here are some really excellent 144th details from Brengun.  there are wheels chocks too but I am afraid if I take a deep breathe I may inhale them.

Klik, if you can pop the canopy off and get hold of the some Pegasus figs, the pilots they are easy make.  here's what I did and a Dragon carrier deck a couple of years ago.  Sweet camo.

This is what comes in the Dragon box.

This is a Pegasus German infantryman.

Body parts trimmed or cut off and repositioned.  Apply a little zip kicker on the head and a quick dip in some thick CA glue to leave a round bead on the head.  Paint in some details and some twisted wire for the oxygen and it looks fairly convincing.
