Theuns, that is looking good. That is not the care bones interior I remember on Airfix kits growing up. Definitely new tooling there. I liked using Floquil and Polly Scale's Interior Green if I was planning to do a wash. They were a tad bit light, but once the wash was on they darkened up to just the right shade. Of course Testors discontinued those paint lines in favor of their product.... (Boooooooo...) You could always mix your own using yellow zinc chromate and adding black, just like the aircraft companies did.

Nice work so far everyone! Can't wait to see all the different and interesting subjects come together.

I'm off to a slooww start at the moment:

My meager progress:

My first non-prop in 17 years or so?? And on top of that I'm using all the Brassin updates, except for the wheel bays. Lots of small parts I hope i can figure out where they go. So far all I can say is these new Eduard kits are far superior to even their fw 190D releases back in 09 or so. The Brassin pit fits perfectly inside the fuse halves, and a dry fit looks real promising so far...

Aztec Decals makes lots of Mexican aircraft markings. Squadron just started carrying the line, or you canorder directly from their website. Hobbycraft has MAF markings in their Vampire F.3 kit. I know there is also an old Aeromaster sheet for P-47s that has teh combined MAF/USAAF markings for the P-47s in the Philipines.

I got some interesting info today. The only "almost" flyable P-51D the SAAF meseaum has on strength is an ex FAD plane serial # 1917.

The kit decals for FAD is for serial # 1916 !  What are the odds.

Vance, I know that we all look forward to your participation here.

Theuns, that is interesting indeed. Boy if that plane could talk I bet the stories would be so interesting having been on at least three continents... North America, where it was created, South America during its time in the FAD,(or at least in between North and South) and finally Africa... I wonder where else in between?

Oh Freakin A the really good builders have taken over.

Here's my last Latin build.

Ok now, I got out the Neptune. I seem to have an Eduard cockpit set, and the decals that Jeremiahs "El Jere" gave me back in the day when I (Ahem) had a forum ID that is talked about to this day but cannot be revealed. All my fault for breaking the rules.

NTL here is a picture of the subject.

I think I have the colors nailed in Model Masters. I prefer Humbrol but this is Stik's GB and he really like Testors, so it's all the way T. Brush only just to make him crazy.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

GM: She looks great! What is the name, I know it begins with a P but I can't spell it- Puncara or something like that?

The Neptune looks really sharp too- love the neat camo.

GM, do you not know me that well. I am a diehard Humbrol fan... those are way better paints than Testors in my book. By all means, use those please! Wink

Thanks Gamera.

Pucara which translates as "Fortress".

Someone recently posted a bunch of photos of Uruguay aircraft (notice how I danced around the possessive case) that had a number of this type.

It's a Special Hobby kit, kind of a *** but a cool looking aircraft.

A little more progress on my F-20 today. I painted the Flat Black areas of the cocpit side consoles and IP, and the cushions, straps, and activation handles on the bang seat. I was going to paint some Satin Black areas as well, but my tin had dried up. Time to hit the LHS to get a new tin.

Good looking office you got there Stick.

The fit sofar on the Mustprang is actually very good, I might get away without filler (hope I didn't just jinx it!)

1/72 is not really my scale of choice, but due to storage issues that is what I have to do.

I have joined the fuselage, wings and tail are also on, I hope to get to do some smoothing out today.

The problem with these "shake and bake" (Airfix shake and bake !!!??) kits is that sometimes you build them so fast without problems that you almost feel "ripped off" not getting value for $  LOL!!!

Indeed yes, I am not use to things going so easy LOL.

Just to feel more in my comfort zone, I slapped on a little putty ;-)

The only place really needed was on the underside of thwe wingtips, the part on the cottom cowl was due to my poor "sprue cutting" tecnique.

The wingroot seam took no aditional superglue or filler to get it to look like the recceced pannel lines, same with the front windshield fit.

I highly recomend this kit. (hope Airfix is taking note LOL)

GM, moving is always such fun, isn't it? -sarcasm switch off.

Theuns, I have heard nothing but good things about these new tool airfix kits. I have built one (a submarine) and that was proof enough to me that a new tooled good quality kit can be made affordably today. But watching you here is really a great reinforcement of that concept.

Talking about moving , I am in the same boat for end of this month. Luckly onla about 10 miles in the same city, but still a major PITA! Hence no longterm builds started now.

Stik, the new Airfix stuff it sometimes a tad confusing in the new red boxes. Some are really new tool, some are re-releases of the same old crummy stuff with new decals. Like the 1/72 Hurricaine Mk1a, I got it thinking wow till I saw to old raised detail :-(

The P-51 by far of the new Airfix stuff is going together the easiest. The Vampire is good aswell, a little more filler needed.

The 1/48 Hawk 120 needs quite a bit of work to get right, but the 1/72 Spit Mk9 and 1a it very nice.

All the putty has been sanded and I think I am about ready for priming to see where I need to rescribe the detail I sanded away.

Stikpusher - good to see you opening up paint on the cockpit.

GM - moving studios… meaning everything will be neat, tidy, organized, and…. almost impossible to find?!??

Theuns - coming together quite well. I'm in the same boat, scale-wise, in that 1/72 is a better scale for my display & building areas. And I can identify with the "is that all the time it took" factor, having recently built up their new-tool Bf109G. Nice little kit, went together well, beautiful decals.

(shameless display of non-thread-related build Whistling )

I liked the new Airfix 1/72 P-40B too. Not completely straightforward, but easy enough. I keep buying them, I ws maintaining a list of the truly new tools, post the Rovex takeover at least. I might update it again and post it here.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

It is kit # A02047 , basically the same as the standard P-51d but with the extra sprue for the F-51d . Different prop, canopy and rockets. The USAF decals look really nice on this one!

Very nice on that 109 ! WIll have to get one myself, kinda like the different decals to it.

It would be so cool if Airfix would indicate (ON THE BOX) a re-box or new tool for us, I sometimes feel "robbed" if they try to slip an old model into a new box........afterall we are not that dim!

I hear ya Theuns. It's all about researching any kit seen. Quite easy to do nowadays...

Vance, yes I am making small bits of progress in the cockpit. More detail work in there today on that. But nothing worth getting photos of yet. Maybe in a few more days near the end of the week. BTW, that 109 would be real good as a "what if" here in say Argentine markings....
