Weekend Madness 2013- Completed!!!

Okay, guys......I've picked two possibles for my 2nd attempt this weekend:

• Tamiya Kettenkraftrad
• AMT Dodge Ram 2500 pickup w/National Park Service markings

Well if the Dodge has wheels that roll, in light of the last one, I suggest the Kettenkraftrad... It won't roll...

Eagle90 - I love the splinter camo on your ME-P1111 as well as the delta wing shape!  Congrats for finishing it up in time!

Tony - At first I thought "did he have TWO kits?"!  Then I realized that its the same FW-90, but with a totally different look!  Great paint job and weathering!

Stik, can you confirm how many weekends this is running over. I am hoping to do mine this weekend, but you never know what might come up.

I'm going to give it a go tomorrow with this one.  It is a MPC boxing of the Airfix Skyraider.  It's kind of old and the kit decals are toast so I will build this as a blue bird with Eagle Strike decals. 

 I figured I would take everything out for a photo and then put it back till tomorrow morning.  This way I have a start picture for motivation and I don't chicken out.

68, that looks like a very good choice. Especially with some AM decals.

Ernest, after watching Konigs tackling of the DML T-80 and knowing how much easier this one is from firsthand experience on both, I am ready! Very good choice for an AFV.

well after some dry fitting, it looks like the fit on this kit if pretty bad. Wouldn't expect something THIS small to be off by this much. I might take a look at the fit on the fuselage of the type 18 I have in the closet. If its better, I'll use it, as that part of the aircraft is identical.

Update!  Its 1:45 AM and this is what I have done since 7 PM:

Entire lower hull is complete, including front and rear.  Roadwheels, sprockets, return rollers and idlers done.  Painting started with a basecoat of Russian Green (my personal mix of Tamiya Acrylics). roadwheels primered with black, sprockets and idlers basecoated.  

Tracks have pin marks on each link.  Had to fill with Mr. Hobby Liquid putty, but sanding will occur tomorrow...I'm too beat right now to tackle all those links!

The goal tomorrow is to complete the lower hull with tracks, fully painted and weathered before moving onto the upper hull and turret. 

Excellent - another weekend of excitement.

Okay...I'm starting my second attempt at this with Tamiya's Hanomag Sd.kfz 251c/1

I started about a half hour ago cleaning up the plastic making them hopefully ready to assemble.  The parts weren't numbered and the isn't a whole lot so the pile of plastic shouldn't be too much trouble.

Really? No numbers on the parts?

ajd, I have that same kit in my stash (along with an Eduard Weekend Edition I-16... I wonder how one of those woul fare here?)  The paint scheme on the box art looks to intricate for me to pull off in a weekend,  but I will be watching your work here closely.

buffle, your BMP is coming along nicely there. Aside fro the tedium of the link by link track assembly, as long as your baby co operates, I am sure you will be fine with the timespan here...

Pyr, good man and good choice. Your armred car may have fallen victim to an unforseen unfortuante event, but the follow on half track should be just the ticket here.

Yes, that is a far more wise "weekend" paint scheme. That is a pretty nice engine. The Hobbycraft P-35 also has a very nice engine just begging to be superdetailed.

Coming along very nicely there ajd. I think I was at the same point on my Hurricane in roughly the same time span. Watching your work on this and I think I may tackle my I-16 this coming year.

After 14hours,which included a 6-hour nap and a trip to the lhs, then dinner and watched Punkin Chunkin 2013 with Household-6.....so here's what I've got so far:

Whew!  24 hours after my last post, here's another update:

I didn't get as much done today as I'd planned.  First I lost one of the return rollers and spent 2 hrs looking for it.  I crawled on my hands and knees over the entire house before finding it stuck to a roll of masking tape in my drawer......SHEEZ!!   Second, the tracks were a BEAR!!!  I probably spent 6 hrs just on those!!  Sanding all the putty for the pin holes on each link, despruing them, assembling them and then finding out that they don't fit the sprockets that well!!  GRRRRRR!!!   Still I managed to tame that bear and was able to move on.  They actually look pretty good.......they better after all the headache!

So assembly is finally done except for the main gun and rocket launcher.  Rocket and launcher are done, just need to sand down the putty at the front if the gun and then it can be mounted.  I'll do that in the morning.

My plan was just to paint the suspension and tracks before moving on to the rest of the kit, but obviously that plan didn't work out, although I did paint and dirty up the entire lower hull!  I don't know why, but I painted the entire rear of the vehicle.

Tomorrow I'll have just 12 hrs to get the rest of the painting done!  Not much in the way for markings, which will make it easier.  I'll either go with some Verlinden Dry transfers of Soviet style numbers or go with the Soviet emblem that comes with the kit decals.

Now time for some

Not sure how accurate you want this to be. But if you want to be as close as possible, that drum between the two front seats should be removed. It a water container and was only fitted to the /8 variants.

Anybody having Photobucket problems today?  Seemed a bit off yesterday but this morning I cant upload anything.  It causes IE to lock and shut down.

Here are some progress photos from yesterday.  I was able to get pretty much everything glued together.

This morning I shot the plane with MM dark sea blue.  I had to use the enamel I had cause I couldn't find any acrylic in that color locally.  I hope everything works out when I put the decals on.
