100th Anniversary of WWI GB

Thanks, Gents for all your kind words throughout this build. I don't keep track of hours, but, if I had to guess, I'd say I put well overt 40ish hours into this project. For those who have never taken on a WnW plane...well, you simply must put them on your list. These things are technically perfect in every aspect. I only had ONE minor complaint during the build and it was with the placement of the lozenge decals, but, I was quickly sorted out by Marc. Oh, and a quick plug for Wnw, FREE Shipping!! Big plus there.

I'm going to my first ever model meet in Oct. I am taking the Roland, my previously built DH.2 and a massive Battlestar Galactica 1/32 scale Cylon Raider (just cuz it's awesome and totally different!!)

PJ & Rocker, your D.VII and Nieuport are both looking great; I can't wait to see further updates.

Rob, the Roland is spectacular!  No need to apologize for sharing a gem like that.  Really lovely work!

Rob...Outstanding job on your Roland. So you will be entering a show for the first time? Well I predict a show winner for certain in this Roland. And if you have any other issues with Photbucket, contact Sarah  the support lady and she will fix things for you. I had an issue a while back and she was very helpful. Good luck in your first show.

thanks, pj...PB was acting wonky...couldn't access my library, but, all ok now.

Sprayed the funky green fuselage and yellow nose. I also applied the lozenge on the lower wings.

The decal did not cover a small length along the bottom trailing edge so I have to match the colors to complete that thin gap.  

To make installation of the bottom lozenge a bit easier, I Tenaxed the wig struts on first, once dry I can apply the lozenge decal.

Great progress on the DVII thus far plastic...love that 'funky' green!!

Well I'm gonna call my Albatros D. V  done.

With all this incredible stuff going on here I am feeling a bit left out.  But 1:1 car and home repairs took precedence.

Just about ready button up the fuselage.  Just gotta figure what holes need to be opened for the version I am doing.

She's looking great Marc. The Harry Tate is hard to get now..Sold out on the WnW website!!

Coming on nicely PJ, those decals must be a real challenge.

Marc, its a real shame to see that framing covered up, but looking really nice as always.

  If you turn the top wing over and look at the radiator that is molded on the bottom side you can see 2 small indentations on one corner, that's where the pipes go into it.   I was going to use styrene rod and heat form it it to make the pipe but i was sitting at my bench when I realized that a piece of solder from my roll would work even better,  so that's what I used.

For those wondering where the heck the ship guys are, well, I personally fell off the face of the earth.... I guess I sail too far west.  Actually I was down and out due to health issues and waiting on a very slow boat from China.

The boat brought a set of FlyHawk photo-etch to compliment the Eduard set I have been using.  The FlyHawk set contained a large amount of detail that the Eduard kit missed, although, it is produced for the Zvezda kit, I have been able to use it on my Trumpeter kit.  I am actually impressed with the toughness of the brass as it has withstood my learning curve on how to use PE.

Since I am on my iPad at the time being, this will have to be a double post as I cannot figure out why it is SO difficult to post multiple pictures from my iPad.  

The first picture is where I left off with the Eduard set and all the hatches on the deck.  The second one shows all the shiny brass of the added FlyHawk set.

Excellent work so far guys.

I was hoping to be done sooner but the struts if mounted as per the instructions would have been easier to mount the top wing but not to apply the lozenge on the bottom of it. It would have left a messy gap so I glued the struts to the top wing and set it aside to dry then carefully sliced them off and attached them to the fuselage first. The messy gap under the top wing was filled with bondo glazing putty and sanded smooth. The lozenge decal went on fine. I still have to add a couple of small lozenge  pieces on the bottom tips.

I then turned the plane upside down and dry fitted the wing at the correct angle using a small box to keep the tail up. I then carefully Tenaxed the struts to the wing and set it aside to cure. The MM bottles keep things in place while curing.

The wheels are dark grey with the pale gray tires

The completed prop with the Axial  logos and a coat of Future for the varnished look.

I also brushed on several Future coats on the fuselage for the decal application.

Steve, are you painting the ship as it looks in your pics. I have wondered how you guys do it as once the superstructure is on, I imagine its a bit of a night mare.

Actually, I think every ship builder paints and builds a bit differently.  In this case, I am going to paint the decks first and then paint the structures on the deck next since it is easier to mask a horizontal surface than a vertical.

Once those are painted then the hull colors will be painted on the lower hull and the flying deck.  After those dry then I'll add weathering to everything.  After this I'll go ahead and glue the flying deck to the main deck.  At this point, all the superstructure and turrets will be built and glued on.  I plan on replacing the masts with brass rod since the plastic masts won't take a strain, even with EZ line.

Since I normally rig sailing ships, this will be rather mundane except that I have never used EZ line before.

For your badge, save it to your PC and then add it to PB. Then go to Community settings and you can edit your sig, just ad the badge as you would a pic to your post. But your sig can only hold so many characters, so once you have a few, you can't display each on its own.
